To be fair,

This all stems from the media, Premier League, Football Club themselves. As fans, it's easy to get sidetracked and sort of brainwashed as to what you should expect because they 'hype' everything and when it backfires they wonder why. The problem extends to fans because of this and I do feel more so than not, they're blamed unfairly.

Yes, some can be ridiculous with their expectations and desires but a fan only wants to see their club succeed.

The media aim to sensationalize everything, so papers, magazines, TV is watched and so on are sold.

The Premier League has pumped so much money into football, wages, TV rights, ticket prices to sustain the wages - that success is the only answer to retain glory and the income that comes to boot with it.

Football Clubs in turn seek and sort out whatever possible way they can to gain money to be successful, if they aren't patient, how can they expect fans to be? It's a vicious circle which only repeats but in my humble and honest opinion - it is football clubs whom hold all the cards to balancing fan expectations. Yet, you have to have the right foundations, the money to invest and the money to spend when it isn't going to plan.

I wouldn't solely blame modern fans @tonyhateley.

well people are voting, so it is interesting and @notts-joe makes a valid point above.

yet to speak out, some fans are morons when it comes to football. just look at what liverpool fans have been doing recently on twitter, if they do not blame the manager, its a player.

It was so much easier to apportion blame when the manager was in charge of everything  at a club. Now with transfer committees - C.E.O's etc. things get confused when we start to play the blame game.

@Notts26   points out that we paid £150K for a striker [not having a go but]  I would suggest that as he has a Mcleod shirt, he like me was expecting a better return on the investment.

It's  not a lot when top teams pay £12mill for squad players, but the money has been spent, so would not be available to a new manager.

As for team selection, Ricky seems to be trying to match our opponents, man for man. Bringing Smith Sheehan and Edwards into the team has made us harder to beat, and is probably only a short term measure to give the team some spine. I would like to see him trust his players and send out the best 11 available, and let the other team worry about us, but its not my neck on the block. Some signings have been a disappointment but at the core of the team we have some quality players, who need the confidence to show it.

this is not the time to start again with an other new manager.

spot on mate I had that for my birthday to 50 odd quid aswell and yes I agree 150K plus his wages of lets say 2-3grand a week you'd expect a lot more I know he has had a injury lately .

But I don't agree with @tonyhateley the modern fan I'm a young fan at 27 and I think you have it wrong we don't expect success but what we do expect is not to be 16th in December after spending more then last year.

We expect abit of desire passion and guts also I expect a manager who says we gonna have quality over numbers but yet again we have numbers.

Also we shouldn't all sit here and go oh yeah we're happy with 16th if this was going to be a expirementing season why give moniz all this money to waste.

Im sorry I have a diffrent view in not a modern fan cause I'm younger I've watched us thro the big Sams season but moniz is no were near going to be on what big Sam has achieved.

@Notts26I bet you were calling for Big Sam's head when he went all those games without a win and we went down.

i cried when big Sam left I was mascot when we played Macclesfield at home and still Rember it now never wanted his head would do anything for him to come back now 

PS I also fought Derry deserved a bit more funds then he got who knows what he could achieved

RE the thread title: he's probably got about 30 years to go, maybe closer to 40 as he'll be in good physical shape.

The game has changed so much I can see where you are coming from Tone, but I think the landscape is so different now you can't compare. I was all for Moniz and the new transfer committee, but it is obvious we are failing at the moment and the warning signs are there. The Guy Branston ' too big for his boots' comments in National Press haven't helped much. He seems to think 'his' club is fine and his job is secure even if we sack any manager. If that does come to pass, then it shows what a failure the experiment really has been.
