try to get debate going after another poor football afternoon

46 years is a long, long time to judge, but it happens to coincide with the length of time I've been a Notts fan.  Masson would be number one, probably followed by Mark Draper.  Then there would be a host of worthy players from our days in the top two divisions.

Sorry, but I find the mere mention of Stanley Aborah in this topic an outrage.  Suffice to say that if you asked for the top 100 since 1970 Aborah would still be nowhere near making the list.  Please keep a sense of perspective.

I agree with Masson, followed by Drapes, after that it becomes difficult. I wouldn't include any midfielder from the last 20 years with the possible exception of Finnan, but even he was raw and not at the peak of his ability.

I'd definitely put the great Fraser McHugh a couple of places below Aborah!  In recent times Judge, Matt Ritchie, Ben Davies and Neal Bishop have all been twice the player Aborah will ever be, and I wouldn't consider any of them among the top four.

I seem to be in a minority of one on here concerning Aborah's ability (or lack of).  I see him as nothing more than an average League 2 player, many others seem to see him as the best midfielder in the bottom two divisions.  I suppose we'll find out when he moves on - will it be to Barcelona  ......... or York City???

Failing that I'll take you all on at arm wrestling in the centre circle as half time entertainment!

I started watching Notts in 1990 and Mark Draper is very much the best central midfielder I've seen for Notts.  The best of the rest would include Phil Turner, Phil Robinson and Peter Butler.  Michael Simpson was a Midfielder Notts should never have let go however.

If debate is the venue, "best" is probably the dynamite, the fuse, and the match used to light it.

Not knocking it. Just saying.

Several of my "bests" have already been mentioned, as have top 10s and 50s. None of my lists would be complete without Mills. Such a frosty finisher.

This was around the time Notts well and truly became my club. Mills, Pike, and the old warhorse Yates.

So, how can I end this is a way that makes sense?

"Gary Mills is the best player ever!"
