Notts v Surrey

Featured Replies

Popped down this afternoon for a couple of hours. Notts in a good position after Day 2. Full bonus points and the poo-coloured caps following on. Liked the look of Jackson Bird, found a good deal of life in the pitch, even with the old ball.

Let's hope the weather will hold enough for us to take maximum points from this game.  Good debut from Bird, 4-56 is a decent effort.  Hopeful of a few early wickets tomorrow.

Did you hear the news report before Matchtalk tonight? Apparently, according to the newsreader, Surrey are 225 for 14 in their first innings! Whose changed the laws of cricket and not told me?!?

You all might as well be speaking in French.

When I lived in Germany a couple of good friends of mine were Indian, a father and son, and cricket fanatics. The son only spoke German so when telling us scores etc. Said everything in German. To start with it sounded really weird, especially lbw which became BvQ, Bein vor Querstock if memory serves.

Very sad news today that James Taylor has had to retire at the age of 26 because he has been diagnosed with a very similar heart condition to Fabrice Muamba. Notts and England have been robbed of a great talent, but at least he will be able to move on and find himself another career.

Terrible news about a very talented player and great bloke.

Big loss to Notts and England, Taylor was an improving talent in all formats of the game.  At least his condition has been spotted early so we won't have to witness the traumatic on-field scenes we saw with Muamba.  Best wishes to James Taylor in whatever he decides to do in the future.

heard it mentioned before the game today, it is very sad to see this happen but at least he did not risk his health further by it going unnoticed.

Surrey finally out for 389 in their second innings setting Notts a target of 169 to win.  There should be around 67 overs left so run rate isn't an issue as long as the weather holds.  Let's get a good start and keep the nerves at bay.

Well, that seemed a laboured pursuit of what looked a modest target based on the first three innings, but we got there in the end.  A maximum points win is a nice start to the season.

Mullaney and Smith were totally comfortable against Footitt and Tom Curran bowling from the Radcliffe rd end. Then he switched ends and Rampaul replaced Footitt and the ball started hooping around. It looked s tough wicket to start on but easier when properly in.

I presume you're a member at Trent Bridge @ivansneck .  I used to be one back in the good old days of Rice, Hadlee, Randall & Co., fantastic cricketers.  I was single and worked shifts back then and my sleep pattern was often based around NCCC.  When I got married (35 years ago) my membership stopped and I became a teletext supporter.  I've only been to the odd one day game over the last few years, but I always follow every game avidly on cricinfo.  I still felt the tension today even though it was only on a computer screen!

Oh yes, I've always been a member of the county I lived in since a teenager. That means Leicestershire, Yorkshire, Hampshire, Lancashire, Kent ( while I lived in Gladbach, Canterbury could be done in 6-7 hours) and now Notts!
