Will Mellors-Blair

After his hat trick performance, what do we know about him?

He's from Nottingham.

5ft9

He has been playing for Detroit City FC but started out at Manchester United's academy before moving onto Walsall's.

It seems he can be a little bit selfish with his eye always on scoring rather than lookong for a pass.

Looks a good player but so could anyone against Linby with all respect.. Let's see how he fares in the coming friendlies with better service and see if we've found a diamond in the rough...

A couple of good Walsall fans have told me he can be quite lightweight, but looked good but never anything solid enough to start regularly for them.

At this stage the opinions expressed only intrigue, as on paper, he does look like a player who could make it at League Two level. As mentioned above, he's clearly got pedigree - having spent time being trained by the academy United. Now, Manchester United only work with gifted players and on merit they have a track record with seeing their youngsters make the grade - perhaps not always at their level but very few fall below the standard of 'professional'.

The American league is probably very close to our Championship/League 1 & 2.

However this isn't a bad thing, as Mellors-Blair does sound like a very promising find for us. Yet we can only really judge him against the better opposition, which those games are further away and him doing well may alert other teams.

Hopefully we will be able to see him perform consistently against teams like Carlton, Ilkeston etc. With sides like Walsall, Forest and Blackburn being key games to really judge the standard that he brings but if he keeps scoring - I can see the gamble of signing up happening before this.

A field where dreams become reality.

Well if he scores the perfect 3 against florist , sign him up he'll do for me , sorry been out in the intermittent sunshine and been on the shandy , but seems worth a look and trust in JS we do .

Hate to burst your bubble @notts-joebut Detroit City FC are only semi professional and play in the American 4th division. I can't equate what level that is, but I am guessing around Ilkeston, or Alfreton standard? Now many a good player has come out of Ilkeston, so he might be just have a chance, if he has bulked up enough. Anybody remember Matty Williams? Came from Utd and was so lightweight that it was too easy to bully him off the ball and he also ended up in non league.

What I do find interesting is that all the trialists were unknowns, so is this a new club policy to try and find the next Jamie Vardy / Charlie Austin?

I think they are all players that Sheridan's mates have recommend, i think someone said above or on another thread that the Asian lads are from shezzas mates Punjabi team

We have tried to unearth hidden gems many times, Andre Boucaud for example - but there is a balance.

If we sign a couple of rough diamonds, it would be interesting but I am still hoping at this stage we opt for quality because its that which will aid us. If you check Will's Instagram account, I think most of you will be impressed with his attitude.

He seems so switched on and professional! Sir Stanley was one of the rough diamonds last year and i will never let people forget it! [emoji6] there was talk of mellors-blair looking lightweight but the guy is built like a brick s**t house! I think we should keep him on trial for a bit longer and see how he does against sides like florist and Walsall

A nice finish in the video, but players often look world class in YouTube videos - remember Julian Jenner?

We'll have the rest of pre-season to have a look at him against more serious opposition. I don't see any problem with taking a punt on players like that as long as you don't end up relying on them.

Crossley said he was only here for a week!

please don't bring Julian jenners YouTube video to compare WMB Jenner was about 30+ WMB is around 20 odd.

and also he was at Walsall years ago so he may have been lightweight as he was still physically developing.

if he has pace and strengh that's all he needs also he won't demand a huge wage and may develop.

I also belive we are looking for another striker if izale goes a WMB could be our impact player

an Jenner hadn't played for a few seasons at all or even kicked a ball for that matter

According to wiki, Jenner was playing the season before and that its Stanley that hadn't played for 2 years before joining us!

I thought the story was that Jenner had quit playing, but was talked nout of retirement by Ricky Moniz. He needn't have bothered.

Stanley does seem to have vanished off the radar before he joined us. I wonder if he's a secret agent or something?

(If you really are a secret agent, please don't assassinate me. I was just guessing and don't know anything.)

I still think its strange that for a player with such obvious quality he has played so little games in his career, he's never played more than 30 games at a club

That's because he always mysteriously disappeared to go on his assignments. Jamie Fullarton almost rumbled him last season, but he rescued the situation just in time.

What a terrible time that was! I thought we would never get our Stanley back!
