Match Discussion: Game 12 - Mansfield (A)

It's the big game for us, last year Notts let us down both home and away but with Mansfield in poor form themselves this time - I except the game to be more lively. At the end of the day, form goes out of the window in local derbies although it can help. We need to go in being prepared and avoid underestimating the Stags.

I am slightly more optimistic about the game, I think we will be fired up but I am just curious if we can actually take our a game to them.

Will Notts win? We are the current favourites but that means nothing too. I'm going for 2-2 draw as my prediction.

What line-up should John Sheridan choose? Should Loach start in goal? Predictions?

game abandoned, defeat in the efl cup. looks like momentum has been taken away from us, i think mansfield may edge it but i think the squad will give a good performance on saturday. just hope we dont try to counter attack these because that will be playing into their hands.

should be a good game.

Collin,

Hollis, Duffy, Laing,

Dickinson, Tootle, Rodman, O'Connor (or Aborah), Milsom,

Forte, Stead

Maybe last nights defeat reinforces the view that some of the fringe members of the squad are not of the quality to make a real impact...thinking of Burke, Hewitt, Snijders, Campbell, Audel...even Oliver, whose effort cannot be faulted but doesnt look like a goal scorer

For me team as @Piethagoram suggests above , will be a different game to last season I'm sure , the form of both teams is out the window for , one thing guaranteed Mansfield will be fired up , as it's there biggest game of the season , so we must match it , and see what happens , tough to call but 2-1 to notts , COYP

As a footnote to the earlier post , let's also hope for a well behaved but vocal atmosphere , with all able to enjoy what could be a good game in a lively atmosphere , COYP , really looking forward to this one , Jon Stead's on fire , who's defence is terrified ? Go on peeps finish it , lol

I spoke to a Stags steward yesterday, he told me that although they are preparing for a feisty encounter between our fans and theirs - they don't really expect to have the same type of trouble as last year. He mentioned policy changes and the way the police will be intercepting our fans as they make the way to the ground. I seriously hope we can avoid any trouble, yet even Mansfield fans (young) on Facebook have been sending/posting silly messages.

What do you think @Dan?

Focus on the football and make it one of the better encounters in recent years, like the old days when it would be a goal fest. COYP

i would go with collins instead of forte myself.

otherwise it looks good.

The police tried their new policies against Grimsby. What they did was any groups of lads they saw they checked their tickets, if they didn't have any then they marched them to the ticket office, watched them buy tickets, then escorted them up to the turnstile to get them inside the ground. I think that's what they'll do with Notts fans. I think any that get off the train will be escorted to the North Stand and told to go inside the ground so that there's not many outside. It seemed to work with Grimsby & there didn't seem to be any trouble so I'll keep all 12 fingers crossed that it works again

May the best team win, sadly I can't see it being us.

@Dan What do you mean sadly? Ha! That would be a good thing for the majority here - btw didn't you say the same about the game at ML last season????

Im confident of a notts win, we are a completely different team to last year and we have players who are prepared to get stuck in and arent scared of a battle! 3-1 notts

I still have a horrible feeling that Mansfield might be up for this more than we are, so I will go for a 2-1 defeat and anything more I will be very happy with!

On the plus side, at least they no longer have Tafazolli who I thought was a decent centre half last season, the sort of player we have been missing and I don't think they are as strong at the back without him. Green scored the other night after a lean spell, but again it will be the midfield which wins, or loses us the game.

I'll also go with @Piethagoram side as well, with bringing Collins on for the last 20/25 minutes in order to put the burners on and stretch their back four.

Going to be difficult. 6 toes on each foot gives them an advantage. They aren't all that bright so I think we can distract them with shiny objects. 2-1 to Notts.

For gods sake ncfc players grow some , a game for the taking ends up a 3-1 loss , that's so disappointing, what is it with Mansfield , Sheridan bang on with his comments .

Have to say I am disappointed by the outcome but I can't say I am surprised, no idea on how well or not Notts performed but by the final score it highlights how lacking we are in local derbies. I do not care for excuses regarding missed opportunities, plus defeat is perfectly fine but pulling level at 1-1 - I doubt I would be the only one thinking how poor it was for us to end the game 3-1.

I'll review more from the highlights but the squad shouldn't be overly down.

If they don't respond at Meadow Lane mind, that will be a different story. We need to focus and regroup, it highlights there is still work to be done but I am sure John Sheridan will be working on that requirement.

Hollis not marking for the first

Tootle, why didnt he clear it?..need to read Warnock's volume on the  basics of defending...Mansfield #3 just ran into Tootle, soft penalty

Duffy. all his "experience" ...shocking defending

We had the chances to win the game but the second green came on we didn't deal with him, all 3 goals could have just been hoofed out, i wouldn't have minded giving away a corner or free-kick if it meant just getting rid in our own area

The goals look even worse on the highlights than they did at the game.  A scruffy deflection for the first, Tootle 100% to blame for the second, what was he thinking?  Loads of time to hoof it clear, he just presents it to the Mansfield bloke who only has to hit the deck for the ref to award a totally avoidable penalty.  The third was just a joke - a massive hoof forward, Duffy and Laing both act like a pair of fairies and let Henderson pick his spot.  Mansfield didn't win that game, we handed it to them on a plate.

We need a partner for Laing. We might get to January without too much damage but it has to be addressed if we are to challenge for promotion. Let's be fair, Notts have been taking their chances recently, yesterday was just an off day.

Seems like a local derby thing like mentioned above we had chances that in other games we have taken , defending was poor though , was disappointed after the game , thought we missed a chance really to get the bogey team syndrome off our back , but alas not to be just yet , let's put it out our system on Tuesday and Saturday with the home games, lots of teams have another team they just don't do well against,  over it now COYP

listening to the radio it sounded like they dominated us and we just cracked, we also seemed to equalise from nowhere. notts was not at the races and that is what annoys me.

They didn't dominate us at all.  We were never under any real pressure, which is why conceding 3 goals is so disappointing.  They had 3 shots on target and scored with all of them.  Collin didn't have a save to make otherwise.  On 90 minutes a 1-1 draw would have been a fair result because neither side did enough to win, but we decided to gift wrap two goals for them in stoppage time.  Stags won't play as poorly as that and win 3-1 very often.

typical notts then, allowing a team who only had three shots on target is very poor.
