FORMER Nottingham Forest and Notts County player Hamza Bencherif is having a trial at Mansfield Town.

The 25-year-old is a free agent and Stags boss Paul Cox said: "He's come in for a little runaround with us and we'll take a good look at him.

"He's got a good background at this level of football.

"He's played at Macclesfield where I thought he was excellent.

Full Article - Here

He's a player I honestly thought would do well with us and without making excuses, I felt the lack of game time, position changes and the situation with managers didn't help - although this is football. He came back from time to time and looked useful but never really cut it at our level and over period of time he slumped again.

I think the point where I felt he wasn't good enough came at Swindon last year, none the less I wish him well at Mansfield.

He's a good player in League Two, much different and if he can rekindle his Macclesfield Town days. He will no doubt be able to make the transition up with a team he's established in :)

Hope it works out for both. Thoughts?

he should do well for them, i see no reason why he would not.

mansfield could do with someone who defensive but with an eye for goal, that is if he can do it. goodluck hamza

I always thought he was a tad over weight and not fully fit when he played for us.

I hope he gets the chance to rekindle his career at the Stags.

To be fair, even when he did carry that extra weight he still put himself about and never allowed it to slow him down.

Best of luck to him though...

He was another player you never got less than 100% from when he played but unfortunatly he just was never really upto league 1 standard. Nothing against him though, good luck to him.

Liam Mitchell actually joined Mansfield on a non contract basis before I started this topic.

Not sure how this works out, as it doesn't sound very rewarding but good luck to Liam (It's great he's taken the offer). I wonder if Hamza will be their next signing?

not good enough for them in my opinion, its probably a reserve type deal.

He isn't signing for them now, their manage made a statement about it.

Hope he finds a club :)

I don't quite understand this.

At one point, he was playing for Macclesfield in League Two and 95% of the teams in that league would have loved to have him.

After a stint with us, now a side who have just been promoted from the conference don't want him.

Strange.

I've noticed this about ex players before, as soon as they leave Meadow Lane they find their form and start scoring goals. :huh2:

I hope he does well with them, and better than he did with us at least.

Would I be going to far to suggest he could do a job in our current midfield? He's defensive and knows how to score, it never really worked with him when we had a strong set of midfielders but part of thinks he'd do much better now....

I felt it was worth the try, he never really had a chance to settle and when he came he did show progress.

Still, that said - I'm haunted by his wasted chance at Swindon.

1-2 anyone?
