Match Discussion: Game 26 - The Linnets (A)

I didn't see the automatic topic for this game so I have added it.Β

There's a saying you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. So I can say nice things about Kings Lynn but the truth is, they are a poor side at this level. They have lost their last 3 games. They have conceded 38 goals in 18 games. That's 24 more goals than Notts have conceded in the same number of games! They took the cover off the pitch and the surface looks well which will suit Notts's style of play. I'm going for 3-0 to Notts.Β

I didn't watch the live stream but from the reports I've read we didn't play well.Β  However, it's just the result we wanted but strangely it could either be meaningless or absolutely vital. If the National League decide the season is voided it counts for nothing, but if Dover's results are expunged and the season is decided on PPG before the weekend we go up as champions.Β  That's how weird things are!

@Elite_pie"but if Dover's results are expunged and the season is decided on PPG before the weekend we go up as champions.Β  That's how weird things are!"Β  I think Sutton Utd would go up as champions though ( they have yet to play Dover), on that basis

If Sutton haven't played Dover, their PPG are 1,947. Torquay beat Dover, so without those three points they would have 1.95. If you take our defeat at Dover out of the equation, we would have exactly 2 points per game and would overtake both Torquay and Sutton.Β

There are some big ifs there though - would promotion be awarded after less than half a season? And why expunge Dover's results if the season is stopped before the weekend anyway?

If the season is continued, though, we're very much in the race.Β

It's really complicated at the moment with all the various permutations, but after their postponed game at Sutton I couldn't resist a sneaky peek at the 'if Dover's results are expunged' PPG table. If my maths are correct the top 7 would read:

1. Notts County 2.000
2. Torquay United 1.952
3. Sutton United 1.947
4. Hartlepool 1.714
5. Eastleigh 1.700
6. Stockport 1.65
7. Maidenhead 1.632

did anyone find it odd that the referee allowed the game to be played with balls that was not properly pumped up? i do not see how you would gain an advantage by playing football with a ball that is properly pumped up. surely this gave kings lynn the advantage? i thought it was a joke.

good result for notts, jake reeves struck a wonderful shot for the goal.

aside from that neal ardley is right about the game being poor and that the better team was them due to the chances created, but i think this comes down to them tampering with the balls or being used to having in the state in which the game was played. pretty sneaky behaviour but reeves is right, we got the points and its all that matters.

Agree with @gtownjohnnoΒ on Cameron King. Always looks a good player..mind youΒ  so did Lawrie Duffield (and Alan Gow), but never seemingly hit the onion bag regularly withΒ the skill possessed.Β
