Notts travel to the Madejski Stadium to play Reading hoping to bounce back from their disappointing 0:1 defeat against Bradford City last Saturday. Head Coach, Martin Paterson will be pleased that previously injured Rod McDonald & Matt Palmer played 60 minutes of a B team match in midweek & should be fit for selection if required. Reading have had a mixed start to their League 1 campaign this season. They have won 2, drawn 1 & lost two of their 5 matches so far, having scored 12 goals & conceded 5.They have earned 7 points & are currently 14th in the table. Last season Reading finished in mid table in 12th position with a record of 16 wins, 15 draws & 15 defeats. They scored 64 goals & conceded 60 finishing on 63 points. They lost 4 of their last 5 matches drawing the other. During the summer transfer window Reading, like a lot of EFL clubs were busy regarding their incomings and outgoings. They recruited 8 new players including 1 loanee, & released a total of 8. 5 of those were released at the end of their contracts. Under their Manager Leam Richardson, Reading play a pragmatic and structured style of football focused on defensive stability, high physical intensity, and territorial control. It is a similar style to what Notts have faced in their previous 6 league matches so far. I think Martin will approach this match in a similar way to how he has approached the previous 6 games employing a hard working, high intensity style which has proved quite successful for him so far in League 1. I don't expect to see many changes in the Notts starting 11 line up. Palmer & McDonald will probably be on the bench. They will both be welcome additions to the match squad. I think Grant could make the starting 11 for this match. I think the most likely outcome will be a draw. Thoughts?

Anyone who wants his services now would have to pay an enormous amount of compensation to Notts for this level. Seeing that he's a promotion winner & changed the way the side plays & it's worked out perfectly so far, could be attractive to other clubs, but it will cost them. Transfer fee/compensation for Head Coaches is becoming more common nowadays, so I'm sure the Notts owners are shrewd enough to already have prepared for any possibility.

I think that the awarding of a new contract is well deserved. Martin has joined a list of Notts County Managers that have done wonders for this club over the years. I think that the vast number of Notts supporters will be very pleased that he has put pen to paper. The owners have shown that they have confidence in him to possibly take this club to the next level. This year may be a year of consolidation, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Notts challenging for promotion under his leadership at some stage in the near future.
