  1. @Robbie I Didn't think you were that Old!!????
  2. Ok I'm about to Open A Can Of Worms Here. Who in your Opinion my fellow PON members. Is the Greatest Player Ever to Pull on a Notts Shirt? This Topic may have been Covered before, if it as Please Indulge Me. I will assume there will be many different Answers because of the Wide range of Fans of different ages who have Watched Notts over a Number of Years. But it will be Nice to hear from the Young Fans as well as the Veteran Fans. So lets hear from all Magpie Fans who is the Greatest Notts Player in Your Opinion?
  3. @Robbie and @Fan of Big Tone Thanks Guys the Post you put up was an Interesting Read. And it appears that the Nottingham Slums gave Birth to the Lambs and their Kind. And Bendigo was a Hero to the working classes in the Nottingham Area. I also thought that most Football Clubs of that Era were founded by the Upper Classes and the Players weren't Paid being classed as Amateurs. The Boom in Nottingham Lace gives rise to another nickname Notts could have been called The Lace Men. Before Notts wore their Now Famous Black and White Stripes weren't their Colours Chocolate and Yellow Quarters? Oh Dear what a Combination, but the Clubs Colours well that's Another Story.
  4. I've watch a fair Few of your Video's and enjoyed them you Strike me as a an Ordinary Fan who wants to get his thoughts and Feelings across about his Favourite Team. Your Straight Forward Nothing Fancy just giving an Honest Opinion. I Like That. Regarding your You tube Channel I Think that as to be Your Choice and Yours Alone. Because if it's an Over whelming Yes Carry on from members on this site and you Carry on, but Don't Enjoy it, you may find you shift the Blame onto your Fellow Fans and that's No Good at all. Maybe step back from You tube for a season or half a season, see how you feel, if it doesn't bother you and you feel happier without the Burden of putting the video's out there, then Quit. However if you watch a Match and feel the Urge that you need to Express your opinion on Certain Issues and you put out a video which is well received you may want to give You tube another Go. It's Really Up To You Mate.
  5. @Robbie and @Fan of Big Tone Thankyou Gentleman. I didn't know this Subject had been covered before, as I only became a PON Member this Year. How Strange to Call a Bunch of Drinkers and Brawlers the Lambs and why would a Football Club want to give their Team that Nickname ? Unless of course the Founders thought that if other Teams knew of the Lambs reputation they'd be worried about Playing Notts thinking the Team were also Drinkers and Brawlers. Playing Mind Games with the Opposition. So onto the Magpies. Do either of you Gentlemen know why Notts were renamed the Magpies ( or does any PON Member?). I would have thought a Name Associated with Notts Legend Robin Hood would have been more appropriate. Like the Archers or the Outlaws.
  6. @Robbie I heard something along those lines about a Gang of Thugs, and Notts were in some way Connected to the Group. But Dismissed it thinking the Clubs Founders wouldn't be Associated with a Gang of Villains.
  7. @TheSkipper Exactly Right it always does seem the same, Notts get an up and coming Young Talent who is paraded in Front of the Notts Faithful and receives a few sentences in the Local Media, he'll play in a few Pre-Season Games and perhaps a couple of Cup matches, then off he goes out on Loan. Never to be heard of again, until is Contract is up and he moves away. How many Talented youngsters as that Happened to at Notts, over the Years? There should be at Least a couple of the Academy players given a Run of six or so matches to see how they fare. I think it will become Clear Pretty Quickly if the Player as it in him to become a Full Time Squad Member. It's been stated that Stuart Maynard likes to Develop Young Players, but the thing is will the Powers that be at Notts Allow Him To Do So?
  8. @DeadlyMacca You keeping your present Monika then? You have Valid and Excellent Points. As have other Commentators on here. Coaching players and getting them Ready for First team Football should be the Clubs Top Priority. I t reminds me of a statement a Mate of Mine told me. He's a Big Liverpool Fan and When Jurgen Klopp was in charge at Anfield all the Teams did everything together from the First Team Squad , the Academy and Youth sides. Such as Eating together to learning how to Play the Liverpool Way and the Man always found the Time to cast an Eye over the Young and Up Coming Liverpool Talent. Just Jurgen Klopp being present and saying a Few words would Inspired the Kids . and he'd always listen to his Other Coaches, and that is probably Why a Team full of Liverpool Kids beat Chelsea a team which Cost a Billion pounds in last seasons League Cup. I wonder if something like the Klopp Method could be installed at the Lane? But then again Jurgen Klopp was the Liverpool Manager and Stuart Maynard is only a Mere Head Coach. And Interestingly Enough Klopp's successor Arne Slot will be Liverpool's Head Coach and Not Their Manager.
  9. Back in my School Days (when we used Chalk to write on Slate) I remember one Christmas I got a Charles Buchanan Football Book and in a Section about Clubs Nicknames it was stated Notts County were Called the Lambs? This I told a School mate (an Ardent Notts Fan) who declared that was a Total Load Of Rubbish. But I replied that was what it said in my Football Book. Yeah well you're Football Book is Wrong. And to Prove his point Terry (that's my School mate) Brings in a Notts Football Programme, opens the it up and the in Capital Letters it says MAGPIES MESSAGE. So why the Lambs? And when was the Clubs Nickname changed from the Lambs to the Magpies? And was there any Main Reason for the Change?
  10. Junior does seem to have had a Raw Deal at Notts so far, he's never been given much of a chance to show his capabilities and so far I think he's scored a single goal in the Matches he's played in. Now Macca's gone he could get the Chance he's been waiting for.
  11. @upthepies Funnily Enough I have Never watched England Live. Both my Sons have and both Enjoyed the Experience. I just watch them on the Tele.
  12. Well @Robbie that story Knocks mine into a Cocked Hat. At the time of that Tragedy I worked with a Lad who was a Big Forest Fan and he also went to that Match. When he came back to work after the event we could see a change in the Guy. He did talk about it to us and I think in some way it Helped him. He was also a member of the Saint John's Ambulance and he said one of the Hardest things for him was the fact, people were Injured and dieing in Front of Him and there was Nothing he could do about it being unable to get down to the Pitch, to help Out. He left a short time later. It's something I hadn't thought about in many years but your story remined me of his .
  13. As I have said Before a young Player such has Ryley Reynolds and James Sanderson would benefit Greatly by being teamed up with an Experienced Player in the First team Squad. Both named youngsters are Midfielders so both would benefit Massively from players such has Dan Crowley and Curtis Edwards being beside them in Training and playing along side them in a Match. Both Academy Players while developing their own style and skills would learn from the Senior players about many things which could or may happen during Match Action and this would help them improve their play much much quicker then being loaned out to a Team, with a Lower Skill Set.
  14. This was a Very Disappointing letting in 3 goals in the Last 10 minutes. Yes Yes I know it was and Friendly and a few of the Youngsters were given a chance and it was an extremely Hot Day. But with it being at the Higher End of a Friendly Match I thought that Stuart Maynard would have put out his Starting XI for the Match at Tranmere or as near to it, and played that team for at Least an hour. With the Season getting Closer it would be nice to have a Better Idea who will be representing the Magpies at the Season's Start. What Happened in the Last minutes once the first of the Zebra's goals went in, did the Old Notts Problem of letting their Heads Drop Come to the Fore?
  15. The Trouble with Notts is it doesn't matter if a Youngster shows Promise they always seem to Go Down off You Go Out on Loan Route. As it's been mentioned before by another PON commentator Sam Osborne was another young Player who showed much promise, but was never really given the Chance of becoming a Permanent Senior Squad Member. Which Seems to be the Norm at Notts.
  16. I Don't want Stuart Maynard to Fail and Like it or Not he's always going to be Compared to Luke Williams, is that Fair ? No but that's the way the Game is. A Successful Manager Will Always Stamps His Personality On A Club and for me I Don't think Stuarts done that. It may come in Time who knows? Maybe it's just that's the way Stuart is on the Quiet Side and he goes about his work in a Cool Methodical Way. All Being Well I'll be at the Lane First Match of the Season Cheering both Him and the Boys On as will all My Family. But there's Doubts about Certain Things in My Mind and hopefully in this Coming Season Stuart and the Magpies will Ease Those Worries Away.
  17. @allardyces tash I think most Notts Fans knew that last Season would be Jim's Swan Song as a Player at the Lane. But Like Many others I Did hope a Position on the Coaching side could have been found for Jim at Notts. The Guys Experience and Fighting Attitude would have given Notts a Massive Boost, both to the Senior Squad and the Academy. For Me it was the Speed in which Macca's move came about, that made me wonder if some sort of Deal had been Agreed a lot Earlier than the Off Season. Thus resulting in the Paltry sum of £750,000 Macca went for. Hopefully any add on's will Result in a Big Chunk of Cash Coming into the Clubs Coffers.
  18. @Robbie And with the Club not giving much away will only add to Fans Frustration. Surely they must see the Benefit of having Young Up Coming Players in the First Team Squad?
  19. Ok before anybody starts getting Hot Under The Collar. This is My Opinion and it may be Vastly Different from yours . If you Agree with me or Not these are things I've Noticed about the Notts Head Coach. Somethings I have Mentioned in other comments on the PON Site. Stuart Maynard, I'm still Not Convinced he is the Right Man to Lead Notts Forward to Promotion to League 1. Firstly he came to the Lane after the Departure of Luke Williams who had delivered what Notts Fans Wanted EFL Football after 4 years in the Doldrums of National League Football, the Magpies were back. Perhaps it's Wrong to make distinctions between Luke and Stuart Maynard but it does have to be done. Luke Williams had Leadership Values and Superb Management Skills. He quickly had the Notts Faithful onside and the First team Squad singing his Praises. He also had a Vast Experience Coaching at other Clubs. Of cause he wasn't Without his Faults. His if the opposition score 3 goals we'll score 4 goals attitude was totally Wrong and we all Know about his Defence Frailties and who knows where Notts would have Finished if he'd had stayed. Personally I think Notts would have still made the Playoffs, but where unlikely to get Promoted. Then off Luke went to Swansea. Enter Stuart Maynard. A Part time Coach with a Semi Professional Team. His tenure began when Notts were about to play Teams at or near the Top of League 2. And we Fans remember how that went. He seemed Totally Out of His Depth he made Poor Decisions and when the Magpies had a Couple of Good Results on the Road at Newport and Bradford he seemed to Switch his Winning Formula. He doesn't seem to have the same Connection with the Fans or His players He doesn't come across as Dynamic or as Enthusiastic as his Predecessor . That could well be the way he his which if you're Winning Football Matches is Fine. Nothing as Really Convinced Me that Stuart is the Man for the Notts Job, even though he has HIS Team now available. I would have thought by Now he'd have a Clearer Picture of His starting line up for the First Matches in League 2 and would have played that team for at Least 60 minutes in Germany. Some Fans will say Well Notts Defended well for 80 minutes. Yes that's as Maybe but Matches Last 90+. It appears to Me that Stuart is still Learning to be a Head Coach, the Thing Is Will he be given Time and if he his How Much of an Effect will it have on the Club Results Wise and It's Standing in League 2 and Most Important The Fans.? When Luke Williams left he left Mighty Big Shoes To Fill, and Personally I Don't think Stuart is up to the Job. I Hope I'm Wrong I really do and all the New signings and Old Squad members Click and Notts have an Amazing Season. I just have a Nagging Feeling it May Not Happen with Stuart Maynard at the Helm.
  20. Well I've been banging on about giving Notts Academy Players ago, obviously the Club have been reading my Topic and have taken my Advice on Board????. Lets hope SM keeps faith in young Ryley and he is Given the chance to play some first team matches, along with James Sanderson, even if it's only off the Bench. And I don't mean in the 88th or 89th minute. But if Notts Stick to their usual routine young Ryley will find himself Whisked Off on Loan to Learn how to Play the "Men's Game" at another Club.
  21. Thanks @Fan of Big Tone it just seems that something Like That May have happened when you Study Things more Deeply. And Like You say We The Fans Will Never Know.
  22. @Fan of Big Tone I Know it's Crazy to think about the Amount of Money people took home in their Wage Packets Back Then. I remember in the Early 70's when I was an Apprentice Brickie, one of the Labourers went to the Foreman to ask for a rise. He was Told No, and he walked off the Site saying A Couple of Coppers extra, that's all I Wanted. Mind you it was easier to get another job back then as well.
  23. The departure of Macca from Meadow Lane was a Huge Disappointment to all Magpie Fans. But should it have been Such A Shock ? Looking Back over the last few Months of last Season perhaps there were already Pointers that Macca was Leaving. The Most Prominent being the signing of Alassana Jatta. In the January Transfer window when Most Fans would have thought the signing of a couple of Defenders either on loan or a short term Contract would have been the Club's Top Priority, but No an unknown Striker from the Brothers other Team comes to the Lane. The Question is why? Notts had Macca, David McGoldrick and Junior Morias as a Strike Force. and Cedwyn Scott was making progress from his injury, so what's with the signing of a New Striker? Unless of course a Deal had been Struck and Macca was going to pastures New. Was it already decided that Macca would leave at the End of the Season? And the signing of Jatta was to get the Player ready and Used to playing in the English League. It appears his signing was an Excellent One his Five goals argues well for the Future, Big Things are going to be expected of him this coming season. The Club playing it's cards very close to it's Chest start laying a False trail of Hope for the Fans. Remarks like It will Take A Massive Deal to take Macca away from the Lane. Macca states he wants to take Notts into League 1 and then the Club make Macca Captain. I'm Not Saying Macca didn't want to Lead Notts into League 1, he may have even been in the Dark about the Move as We the Fans Were. Why would Notts not say anything about a possible move? Imagine the effect on Season Ticket Sales if it had been announced at the end of Last Season that Macca was on his way. It May Not been a Massive number but Enough to make an Impact on Revenue (who Knows?) Many rumours were doing the rounds a whole List of Clubs were being Quoted as Possible Destinations and Transfer Fees were Priced from £1.5 million to £2.3 million at one stage. Then the Millwall interest Comes to light and things seemed to be Wrapped Up Awfully Fast. So was the Figure of £750,000 +Ad on's (hopefully) agreed in January with Millwall on the understanding, that Macca would remain at the Lane until the season was Finished? Whatever was agreed or Not lets hope Macca goes on to Great things and has a Great Career. We Notts Fans should be Grateful we had Macca with us last Season, because Many of us in the stands thought Macca would have been Snapped up after his Epic 42 Goal National League Campaign..
  24. @super_ram No I Never Got A Thing. Come to think of it I think Dad did switch to the Sunday Mirror. But it was So Long A Go and I'd Forgotten about it until I was sorting out that Chest of Drawers and Found the Ruddy Letter. Ah Well Such Is Life.
  25. Often heard of the Palais but Never Actually went there. I know quite a Few Guys who have Fond Memories of the Place. And a few Stories that would make your Teeth Curl. The main Story which is clean enough to repeat here is. A chap I used to work with Nev he used to hang around with a Gang way back (1950,s) and in their Gang was a Lad called Big John, who was into all this Charles Atlas Bodybuilding Stuff. When he danced with a girl he'd pick her up Twirl her round in the Air and then catch her. Many a time I was told you'd see a girl John had danced with staggering around the Dance floor as if she was Drunk. On one Occasion a member of the Gang was on the Balcony and he shouted down to Big John. Hey Johnny Boy Catch me, Big John stood with his arms open as if he would catch his mate, who launched himself off the Balcony, expecting Big John to catch him. But Big John just spun round and Walked away. If that Story is True I don't know or if Nev was just pulling My Leg as it were, True or Not I found it Very Funny.
