Notts County 1-2 Salford City: Magpies Fall Short in First Home Game of the Season
Notts needs to regroup following that performance. I left feeling let down, and as expected, many frustrated fans voiced their opinions, and I found myself agreeing with many of their points. Our marking on set pieces often leaves much to be desired, and our tendency to pass backwards frequently leads to issues. Supporters have repeatedly pointed out that this puts us at risk. The performance was lackluster; perhaps it stems from a lack of confidence, but we can't afford to perform for only 20 minutes in a 90-minute match.

Hello Pete, welcome to PON
Hello, @Pete . Either you are a Notts DJ, which would be super cool! Or you play as a central midfielder with the number. 11 on the back of your shirt. Maybe I am completely wrong!? Welcome to the Pride of Nottingham, either way!

Game 2: Match Discussion, The Ammies (H)
Mrs. T has completed her sentence; now it's time to locate that striker before Alassana Jatta returns. 😉

Game 2: Match Discussion, The Ammies (H)
Only if you can go out and find a striker for Notts that can score 15+ goals. Do we have a deal?

Ryley Reynolds returns to Kidderminster
Going back for another year with Kidderminster is a positive opportunity for Riley Reynolds. Securing regular playing time is crucial, and as many have noted, finding joy in the game is essential. Next season, we either need to find a way to give him half the season out on loan, or have him come back for the other half to sit on the bench, so that we can give him the experience needed to make the grade. No young pro has been given enough games to tell if they are going to improve; we release them before there are any signs.

When automatic sub titling goes wrong
People used to want to work for the BBC if they went into media, and it has been a good place for people to learn their trade, but since they have gone all in on the TV licences, pandering to political parties, and focusing on being woke, nobody does now. Only those who want the money, because it's not somewhere you want to blow your reputation working with. They are becoming an embarrassment to Great Britain.

Jodi Jones Targets Goals and Promotion as Notts County Prepare for Salford City Test
Having played there before in his career, even if it was when he was younger, as an experienced player now, he should be more adapted to the role and understand that it will give him more time to have a shot on goal. There's no reason why he won't just settle in within a few more games, because he's a professional. What I like is how he's wanting to challenge himself; he wants to be involved in the action up top, and I don't think we have ever had a better player at shielding the ball while being able to outskill any player. At 27 years old, even with his injuries, this is the prime of his career, and he still has a lot more to offer.

Tyrese Hall to Notts
It’s a bit different for us to try and make the most of the loan market. The club has usually treated it as a way to bring in the odd player who fits a gap. I just hope we can keep players like Tyrese Hall happy. If he does well, he should get minutes, but there’s always the chance he won’t get the time he needs to show what he can do. I can’t say for sure, but Martin Paterson has plenty of options in midfield now.

Weekly Chat - Monday 4th to Sunday 10th August
Been in and out, doing human-interest stories in Manchester and all this stuff the auditors are pointing their cameras at. I don't blame you; I personally don't drink alcohol; it's very rare that I do. My apartment has a nice view of the River Irwell. I have a very small, compact desk near the back where I do all my writing at home. I always find it peaceful to do when it rains; the pattering sound of the rain hitting the glass can be very peaceful. I don't have a balcony, though the door does slide open to allow the breeze in. Unfortunately, I was at work and walking around the city centre getting wet for most of the day.

Game 2: Match Discussion, The Ammies (H)
I went to both games. The away game was really tough to handle. If MK Dons had scouted Dan Crowley for that one, they wouldn’t have signed him. At home, we didn’t play too badly, but we let things slip. At their ground, they completely dominated us. It wasn’t just being outplayed, they walked all over us.

Where are they now : George Abbott
I want to be clear about why I added the laughing emoji, and it's due to how badly the picture of George Abbott has been done. It's awful; I can't believe a professional would think that it's good enough to publish. Should I cut out the arms, too, one longer than the other? Why? I am not an expert with digital media, but I think I could do a better job than that. Why not leave his body in and add an overlay to cover the bottom half, having been cut out??? There would be no need to cut elsewhere, and the text could go inside the overlay. Embarrassing on Wycombe Wanderers part. Good luck to George Abbott and Wycombe, he's a class act and should easily make the step up. I am certain they are a suitable team to further his career and expose him to a level above ours.

Game 2: Match Discussion, The Ammies (H)
Salford City excels at pressing when the opportunity arises, yet they primarily thrive on counter-attacks. We are well aware of this strategy, which means we need to maintain tight channels and provide ample support to advance down the wing. Attacking through the center of the pitch is likely to present Notts with the greatest challenges, as Salford will seek to intercept the ball. We tend to struggle against teams that are adept at sitting back while cohesively launching effective counter-attacks. I don't want to witness Notts simply passing the ball around only to eventually return it to the keeper. This approach invites unnecessary pressure on us, allows them to advance and push us deeper into our territory, and ultimately plays right into their strategy. We have a lot of attacking intent in the team now, whereas last season we relied on players like David McGoldrick to move us forward on his own shoulders. Notts feels like a more competitive team; it's just a question of who will score? If Notts can strike first and keep creating chances, there's every chance we will do well, but if we struggle to score, it might be a tough 90 minutes.

Roberto Gagliardi: Notts County Moving in the Right Direction After Busy Summer
The club has recognized that conducting interviews has significantly contributed to restoring calm among the fan base. I truly value what Roberto Gagliardi has expressed here. Reflecting on the Newport County match, it’s clear that the recent signings have seamlessly integrated into the team. Now is an opportune moment for the club to convey its message: we are not simply looking to add any players; we aim to secure signings that enhance our quality, seamlessly blend into the squad, and fortify our strength. I remain content to withhold my concerns for now, but I completely understand that, given Notts’ history, some fans may leap to worry before considering the situation thoughtfully. Gagliardi will hopefully have put some of these thoughts to rest now, and we can crack on with the season.

Jodi Jones in the AMC Role
At some point in his career, I am confident that Jodi Jones has taken on this role. He has predominantly played in attacking positions for Malta, where he stands out as their sole attacking player. I believe adapting to a new role shouldn't be particularly challenging for him. If he can deliver a few strong performances, with an assist here and a goal there, it will significantly boost his morale. Ultimately, contributing to Notts' victories will be the key to his success. He expressed that coming here reignited his passion for football, and now it's all he desires to pursue. Shifting him from the wing not only enhances our pace in the attack but also positions him closer to the heart of the action. His ability to maneuver past defenders is remarkable, regardless of where he plays, and he excels at holding the ball under pressure. I have no doubt that he can effectively set up teammates in an attacking midfield role. Talented players often thrive when switching roles, as this adaptation can rejuvenate their careers. If it doesn't yield the desired results, we can always explore other options. However, I see no reason to doubt the potential for success in this approach.

Predictions for 2025-26
I think the table will look like this. 1st Gillingham 2nd Salford 3rd MK Dons 4th Notts 5th Bristol Rovers 6th Walsall 7th Chesterfield 23rd Cheltenham 24th Barrow I share Martin Paterson's view that eight teams are in strong contention for the top three spots, making the competition quite intense. The fact that four teams can be promoted adds to the excitement, as it enhances our chances of reaching the playoffs. I don't believe we've weakened our position by selling Alex Bass or by failing to secure a deal for David McGoldrick. In fact, our squad is already quite strong, and our depth has significantly improved, positioning us well for the challenges ahead.

The Jatta Paradox
Alassana Jatta if he doesn't commit to a new contract, will need to be sold for the highest fee. Unfortunately, clubs pay a premium for a player under contract, and if his agent is any good at his job, he will encourage Jatta to sign a new deal with a sell-on clause. If the agent wants to use Jatta as a payday, while furthering his client's deal and career, he will want him to move to a club willing to pay a higher transfer fee. While a club may offer higher wages and generous agent fees, there are additional factors to consider when evaluating fee structures. Free agents generally involve lower signing fees, whereas transfers represent substantial financial opportunities in the market. If he's going, we might as well let him, but the fee needs to bring in a replacement when he leaves. Losing him on a free would be disappointing when we paid good money to bring him here.

Martin Patterson interview BBC
Excellent interview from the perspective of what sounds like a solid plan. I like that he went to watch Newport County and that he isn't going to talk about how we are the better team on paper. He doesn't give much away, which is good. I am more curious about the injuries, as it sounds like we have the majority back. I thought Scott Robertson and Lucas Ness were still out injured? I don't think it is unfair; he had the opportunity to fit in and played when others could have done more for us at that stage. He got the place because he needed to 'adjust', but lacked signs of control, fell over, and looked a little unnatural as a footballer. We have had good players who never had the time of day; even Junior Morias did more in his final game away to AFC Wimbledon than Mai Traore did for the majority of the games. We utilized him as both a striker and an attacking midfielder, yet he failed to perform effectively in either role. There were glimpses, and I would hope that he can come good, but it wasn't Stuart Maynard's fault Traore couldn't pass the ball, control it, or stay on his feet. Pairing him with Jatta is also a benefit to helping him settle; he needs to step up this season and find confidence.
