  2. Notts have faced Macclesfield 16 times in competitive action over the years. Notts: 4 Draw: 8 Macclesfield: 4 The last time Notts faced Macclesfield was in the title winning 2009-10 season. The Magpies won 4-0 at Moss Rose in August 2009, and 1-0 at Meadow Lane in March 2010. Notts are unbeaten in their last five fixtures against Macclesfield, winning two and drawing three. Stats Macclesfield are still looking for their first win of the season, having drawn 4 and lost 7 of their first 11 games. They picked up a good point on Tuesday night in a 3-3 draw with 3rd placed Newport, despite conceding in the 95th minute. Notts have notched up two wins on the spin and are unbeaten in four but are yet to win away this season. Seasons in each division Division One (or Premier League): 0 Division Two (or Championship): 0 Division Three (or League One): 1 Division Four (or League Two): 14 Non-League: 37 History Macclesfield have never lost a penalty shootout in their history. The Silkmen are two-time FA Trophy winners (1969-70 & 1995-96) and three-time winners of the National League (1994-95, 1996-97 & 2017-18). The first time they were not promoted to the Football League due to not having a big enough stadium. Team news Michael Rose will return to the Macclesfield team after serving his suspension, after a red card against former club Morecambe. Ryan Lloyd, Elliott Durrell, Callum Evans and Coventry loanee Jordan Ponticelli are injury worries for The Silkmen. Notts will be with out Rob Milsom after his red card on Tuesday night against Crawley. Ben Hall still has groin problems whilst Richard Duffy will be out of action for a few months. This is the first time Harry Kewell and Mark Yates have faced each other as managers. 4. The Notts County revival is well and truly on. After a shocking start to the season where the Magpies looked unfit for purpose in League Two, Harry Kewell's last four games have now yielded eight points in the shape of two wins and two draws. Following the 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra at the weekend, Notts followed it up with an even more impressive 3-1 win over Kewell's former employers Crawley Town, a feat made more remarkable by the fact they finished the game with 10 men. Kane Hemmings and Jon Stead had the Magpies two up at half-time and, even though Rob Milsom - incidentally on loan from the opposition - was sent off 66 minutes for a late lunge, substitute Nathan Thomas added a third goal. Even though Dominic Poleon nabbed a consolation in injury-time, the evening would belong to Kewell and his boys. Pride of Nottingham vlogger ARLukomski was at the San Sirrel for the game and has provided, as always, a superb pre, mid and post-match commentary, so here is the video for you to enjoy! 5. Notts County have met Crawley Town 12 times over the years. Notts wins: 7 Draw: 2 Crawley: 3 Last season, Notts won 1-0 at the Broadfield Stadium with Jorge Grant scoring the only goal of the game. Crawley won the return game 2-1 at Meadow Lane. Before the 2-1 loss in January of this year, Notts notched up 5 wins in a row against Crawley, doing the double over the Red Devils in 2015-16 and 2016-17. Stats Crawley have started well under new manager Gabrielle Cioffi - the Italian was assistant to Gianfranco Zola during the latter’s time managing Birmingham City. They have won 2 of the 3 games under his stewardship, beating Morecambe and Yeovil at home, but losing 1-0 away at Forest Green. Notts finally picked up their first win of the season at home to Crewe on Saturday. Since Kewell’s appointment, the defence has looked a lot more structured and the team has down well in attacking phases. Seasons in each division Division 1 (or Premier League): 0 Division 2 (or Championship): 0 Division 3 (or League One): 3 Division 4 (or League Two): 4 Non-League: 60 History Crawley have spent most of their time in Non-League before being promoted to the football league for the first time in 2011. They reached prominence after getting to the 5th round of the FA Cup in both 2011 and 2012. The club almost came close to folding in 2006 due to huge debts but were rescued at the last hour. It is around this time, the club were in financial disarray and had a 3-point deduction in 2005-06, 10-point deduction in 2006-07 and a 6-point deduction in 2007-08. Team news Notts are set to be without captain Richard Duffy again as new boss Harry Kewell faces former club Crawley for the first time since leaving the Broadfield Stadium. Duffy is still struggling with a hamstring strain so forward Jon Stead is in line to keep the captain's armband for Tuesday's League Two clash. Nathan Thomas is pushing for a start after returning from a foot injury as a late substitute on Saturday while David Vaughan has overcome a calf problem. However, Ben Hall remains out with a groin injury. Rob Milsom, whose loan move from Crawley becomes a permanent deal in January, is able to play. For Crawley, Joe McNerney and Mark Connolly are back in contention following suspension - the defenders missed Saturday's 3-1 win at Yeovil Town as they served their respective one-match bans. Gabriele Cioffi could decide to start Ashley Nathaniel-George, who responded to being dropped at the weekend by coming off the bench to put the Reds 2-1 up. Midfielder Jimmy Smith will miss the rest of the season after knee surgery. 6. We need to isolate the midfield three behind the striker of Luke Gambin, Ashley Nathaniel-George and Filipe Morais. Get Alessandra, Stead, Boldewijn and Hemmings influencing the game as much as they were in the second half on Saturday.
  7. I've added some new features to the vlog. Simon is also back
  8. Notts County finally claimed their first win of the 2018-19 campaign as they ran out 2-1 victors over Crewe Alexandra at Meadow Lane. It's been an anxious start to the season for the Magpies, who looked well out of sorts for much of their early games. But with Harry Kewell at the helm, two consecutive draws have been followed up by the first three-point haul of the campaign. The Magpies began brightly against their opponents from Cheshire and went ahead after five minutes when Rob Milsom stabbed home after good work by Jon Stead and Kane Hemmings. Crewe fought back to equalise with their first meaningful attack as a cross from Corey Whelan was not dealt with by Jamie Turley, allowing Jordan Bowery to slot into the bottom corner beyond Ross Fitzsimons. Elliott Hewitt eventually came up trumps when he headed home Cedric Evina's inch-perfect cross, leaving opposition goalkeeper Ben Garratt helpless. Pride of Nottingham vlogger ARLukomski was at the San Sirrel and, once again, has provided a superb commentary of things prior to, during and after the game. 11. Head to head Notts County have met Crewe Alexandra 45 times in their shared history. Notts wins: 22 Draw: 9 Crewe wins: 14 Notts met Crewe for the first time at the Alexandra Recreation Ground in 1893, winning 2-0 in Division Two. Notts have a great recent record against Crewe, losing only once in the last 14 meetings between the two clubs, stretching back to 2002. Since 2002, they have won 9 games against Crewe, including doing the double over The Alex three times. Last season Notts lost 2-0 at Gresty Road but in the return fixture, won 4-1 with Noor Husin scoring the goal of the season for 2017-18. Stats After nine games, Crewe are sat in 17th place with 8 points. They have not scored away from home in the league this season and have just come off the back of a derby defeat to Port Vale. Notts moved off the bottom of the table last weekend after the 0-0 draw with Northampton, keeping our first clean sheet since the opening day. Notts are still winless but have made major improvements since Harry Kewell came in as manager. Seasons in each division First Division (or Prem): 0 Second Division (or Champ): 12 Third Division (or L1): 45 Fourth Division (or L2): 35 Crewe have also been in the Central League (6 seasons), Birmingham and District League (10 seasons) and the Lancashire League (3 seasons) History Crewe are famed for their youth policy with many players currently in the game or players that are retired, having come through the youth academy at Gresty Road. Notable players include Dean Ashton, Seth Johnson, Danny Murphy and David Platt. Manager Dario Gradi became the longest serving manager in English Football during his 24 years stint at the club between 1983 and 2007. The club was named after Alexandra of Denmark, Queen consort of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions and Empress of India as the wife of King Edward VII. Team news Nathan Thomas could return to action for Notts against Crewe after more than a month out injured. The winger suffered a freak injury in the defeat to Newport when a stud went through his boot and into his foot, but has returned to action for the reserves during the week. Cedric Evina, Elliot Ward and Jamie Turley are likely to keep their places at the back, but manager Harry Kewell accepts he needs to manage their playing time carefully due to a lack of match fitness. Andy Kellett is hoping to make his own return, while Dan Jones returns after suspension, but Richard Duffy and Ben Hall are still expected to be unavailable. Crewe boss David Artell may ring the changes as his side look to return to winning ways, while they have no suspensions to contend with. The Alex suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Port Vale in their last League Two outing last weekend, while they also failed to get on the scoresheet in the previous Saturday's goalless draw at Cheltenham. Artell has alternated his strike partnerships to see if he can formulate a more potent one due to the lack of recent goals. Jordan Bowery partnered Chris Porter for the first time in the clash with Vale, but the boss may try another combination at County. Defender Kevin O'Connor returned to the starting line-up in the midweek EFL Trophy defeat against Manchester City Under-21s following a heavy collision against Tranmere Rovers earlier this month and could continue in the back line. 12. Notts County have met Northampton Town 55 times in their history. Notts: 27 Draws: 11 Northampton: 17 Notts met Northampton for the first time on November 22nd, 1930 in Division 3 South, drawing 2-2. The last time Notts met The Cobblers was in the 2015-16 season with Town winning 2-1 at Meadow Lane and the reverse fixture finishing 2-2 at Sixfields with Thierry Audel and Jon Stead getting the goals for a Notts team under the stewardship of Mark Cooper. Notts did the double over Northampton in the title winning 2009-10 season, winning 5-2 at Meadow Lane and 1-0 at Sixfields. Since 2000, the two teams have met 15 times with Notts winning 5, drawing 4 and losing 6. Stats Northampton have only won once this season with the sole win coming away at Colchester. Matt Crooks and Billy Waters were the goalscorers in a 2-1 win. They are on a run of three winless games and haven’t won at home this season. Notts still haven’t won this season but there were some positives to take out of the home draw with Stevenage. The attack looks like it’s getting better and Enzio Boldewijn and Kane Hemmings are improving. History There only season in the top flight, came in the 1965-66 season. They moved to their current home at Sixfields in the 1994-95 season. The Cobblers are two-time winners of the Fourth Division and have also won the Third Division once. Town have also won the Southern League once. Northampton hold the record for being promoted from the 4th tier to the first and relegated back down to the fourth again at only nine years (promoted from fourth division 1960-61, relegated to fourth division 1968-69). Seasons in each division Division 1 (or Premier League): 1 Division 2 (or Championship): 3 Division 3 (or League One): 49 Division 4 (or League Two): 38 Northampton were in the Southern League and Midland League before being elected to the Football League in 1920. Team news Northampton Town will be without suspended defender Aaron Pierre, who was sent off just before the hour mark of last weekend's 2-0 loss to Port Vale and must serve a one-match ban. Striker Junior Morais is definitely sidelined while Daniel Powell is also set to miss out - both have hamstring issues - and Shaun McWilliams is a doubt with a foot injury. The Cobblers have only won one match so far this season and manager Dean Austin could make changes after being frustrated by their performance against Vale. New signings Jamie Turley and Cedric Evina both made their debuts against Stevenage but the former only lasted 45 minutes after appearing to hurt his ribs. If he is not fit, Matt Tootle is likely to come into the starting line-up having replaced Turley in his own return from injury. Midfielder Andy Kellett could come back into contention following injury but Dan Jones serves the last game of his three-match ban while Richard Duffy and Ben Hall are still expected to be unavailable. 15. Notts County put in a much improved performance in Harry Kewell's first home league game in charge but defensive issues came back to haunt the Magpies as they were held to a 3-3 draw by Stevenage at Meadow Lane. Three times Notts went ahead in the game and three times they were pegged back by the visitors, yielding just a second point of the season. The Magpies took the lead midway through the first half as Ben Nugent brought down Jon Stead in the box for a penalty, which the veteran striker opted to take himself as he sent goalkeeper Paul Farman the wrong way. Stevenage countered with their first equaliser seven minutes before the break through Ben Kennedy, who turned home Danny Newton's low cross, only to fall behind again on 43 minutes when the livewire Enzio Boldewijn cut in from the left and bent in his third goal of the season from 20 yards. However, the first half ended all square as Alex Revell leapt above debutant Cedric Evina at the far post to connect with Steve Seddon's cross and loop a header beyond Ross Fitzsimons two minutes later. Kane Hemmings restored the advantage four minutes after the break with a smart finish from Lewis Alessandra's through ball, but Notts were pegged back yet again after 73 minutes, Danny Newton connecting with a cross and drilling home a left-footed finish from eight yards. 16. Notts have met Stevenage only 13 times including once in the FA Cup. Notts wins: 6 Draws: 2 Stevenage: 5 Notts met Stevenage for the first time on September 17th, 2011 in League One, running out 2-0 victors at Broadhall Way. In 2017-18, Notts took four points from Stevenage with the sides drawing 1-1 at Broadhall Way, with Notts winning the reverse fixture 2-0 after goals from Jorge Grant and Shola Ameobi. Since 2015-16, where both teams have been in League Two, Notts have the upper hand with three wins to Stevenage’s one. The other two games being draws. Stats Stevenage got back to winning ways last Saturday with a 1-0 win at home to Macclesfield. This season they have won, drawn and lost each of their three away games. They currently sit in 11th place. Notts are still looking for their first win. In 2013-14, Notts went winless for the first seven games (including losing their 7th game 5-1 like this season), gaining only one point. They then won their 8th league game of the season, which was at home. They then went on to win their next home game (10th league game of the season) at home to Crewe (who we also play on Matchday 10 this year). Reason for hope? History The club were founded in 1976, meaning they are one of the youngest clubs in the football league. Stevenage have won the FA Trophy twice (2006-07, 2008-09) They and Kidderminster Harriers set the record for highest attendance for an FA Trophy final with 53,262. Boro were the first team to win a trophy at the new Wembley Stadium in that match against Kidderminster, winning 3-2 with current Millwall striker Steve Morison scoring the winner with two minutes left. Graham Westley has had three spells in charge of Stevenage. His first spell between 2003-2006, he helped steady Boro. His second spell he helped earn them two promotions in a row, from the Conference to League One. His third spell was mixed, with the team getting relegated to League Two in 2013-14. They then made the play-offs in 2014-15 but were knocked out by Southend. Time in each division First Division (or Premier League): 0 Second Division (or Championship): 0 Third Division (or League One): 3 Fourth Division (or League Two): 5 Non-League: 30 Team news Notts have quite a few injuries with Andy Kellett, Noor Husin, Matt Tootle, Richard Duffy, Ben Hall and Branislav Pindroch all out injured, while Dan Jones is suspended. On the plus side, manager Harry Kewell will be in the dugout as he paid a £500 fine to the FA after admitting that his behaviour towards the referee against Exeter City was improper. There are doubts ahead of the game over three Stevenage forwards - Danny Newton, Kurtis Guthrie and Alex Revell are all nursing knocks. Otherwise, Boro's squad has a clean bill of health as they look to build on the 1-0 home win over Macclesfield Town last time out. 19. Notts County disappointed yet again on Saturday as Forest Green Rovers ran out 3-1 winners at Meadow Lane. The result left the ten-man Magpies rock bottom of League Two but frankly it could have been even harsher on Harry Kewell's new side. Liam Shephard opened the scoring when he rifled past Ross Fitzsimons in the first half and, after the restart, Dan Jones walked for a two-footed lunge on Lloyd James. Forest Green then had a goal ruled out but soon after doubled their lead when Reuben Reid capitalised on some poor Notts possession to beat Fitzsimons. The Magpies, led for the day by Mark Crossley and Jon Goodman, were let off as Rob Milsom was not punished for a foul on Reid in the box. Substitute Jon Stead then scored to give Notts hope, but the visitors sealed the win when substitute Dayle Grubb curled in for an easy victory. 20. On Sunday, the unthinkable happened when Kevin Nolan, who masterminded Notts County's Football League survival in 2016-17 before leading the Magpies into the League Two playoffs the following year, was relieved of his duties by owner Alan Hardy. The last 18 months have certainly been an enjoyable ride, but this season, the Magpies have struggled in the league, with an opening-day draw with Colchester United followed by four straight defeats to leave the club bottom of the table. “This is a decision we’ve made with the best interests of Notts County at heart,” wrote Hardy on the club website. “While the beginning of our 2018-19 campaign has been bitterly disappointing, the board and I believe results and performances throughout 2018 have not been good enough overall. “The last eight months have seen us win only eight of our 28 Sky Bet League Two matches, a run which saw us surrender our position in the automatic promotion places before suffering defeat in the playoff semi-finals. “Our away form has also been a continuing concern, with only two league victories recorded on the road since the turn of the year. “Ultimately, a continuation of this form would not allow us to meet our targets for the season and, having conceded 16 goals in our last five matches and being without a win in our last 10 competitive games, we feel now is the time to move forward with a new manager at the helm." Pride of Nottingham vlogger ARLukomski has given his thoughts on Nolan's departure, so please have a look at his latest YouTube video and let us know your thoughts. 22. Notts County lost their fourth League Two match on the trot on Saturday as Lincoln City ran out 3-1 winners in Saturday's match at Sincil Bank. Imps captain Lee Frecklington fired the hosts in front with a neat volley, but the Magpies levelled through Andy Kellett's low free kick, However, Bruno Andrade restored City's lead and then teed up Harry Anderson for the third goal early in the second half. The result saw County's winless start to the season increase to five league games, including four defeats on the trot in the league, and eventually led to Kevin Nolan's dismissal. 24. Head to Head Notts have met Newport 50 times including both the old club and new club. Notts wins: 26 Draws: 10 Newport: 14 Notts first met The Exiles on October 18th, 1930 in which they came away from Somerton Park with a 3-2 win. Last season, Notts took four points from Newport with them dominating The Exiles at Meadow Lane 3-0, with a 0-0 draw at Rodney Parade in the return fixture. The six meetings between the two, since Notts came back into League Two, have seen Notts win three, Newport win two and there has been one draw. Stats Newport are unbeaten in their last four at home which extends back to last season. They are also unbeaten in their last three in all competitions and earned a good point away at table-topping Exeter on Saturday. Notts are still yet to pick up their first win and look very fragile. History Newport were founded in 1912 and the original club, dissolved in 1989 and were reformed in the same year, where they started in the Hellenic League. They were Welsh Cup winners in 1980 and this allowed them to qualify for the European Cup Winners Cup, where they got to the quarter-finals before losing 3-2 on aggregate over two legs to German side Carl Zeiss Jena. The Exiles’ biggest victory is a 10-0 win over Merthyr Town on April 10th 1930 in the Third Division South. Their biggest defeat is a 13-0 loss to Newcastle United on October 5 1946 in the Second Division. Their mascot is Spytty the Dog.
