Ryan Reynolds: "They deserve to go up. We are rooting for Notts County"

PON_News

Wrexham AFC has secured the National League title with a stunning come-from-behind victory over Boreham Wood at the Racecourse Ground. Co-chairmen Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were present to witness Phil Parkinson’s men recover from an early setback and emerge as 3–1 winners in front of over 10,000 fans.

After the game, the Hollywood duo paid tribute to the Reds fans, top goalscorer Paul Mullin, and title challengers Notts County in an interview with BT Sport. They were visibly moved as the team secured their first silverware since the takeover in 2021.

Paul Mullin scored twice, and Elliot Lee added a header to clinch the victory against an impressive Boreham Wood outfit chasing promotion to the Football League. Wrexham’s final game as a non-league outfit will be against Torquay United at Plainmoor next week.

Speaking to BT Sports, in the post-match interview. Ryan Reynolds said: "I am not sure I can process what happened tonight, I am still little speechless."

"'Why Wrexham?' [when people ask], This is why Wrexham. This happening, right now, is why."

When asked about the significance of Wrexham’s return to the Football League and what it means to supporters, McElhenney stated: "I think the sound of the town speaks for itself."

"It’s a time of celebration and be welcomed into their community and be welcomed to this, it is the honour of my life."

Reynolds praised Notts County, who were long-time title challengers and pushed Wrexham to the limit. He stated: "This entire story, the reason we are all on edge of our seats is because Notts County are so damn good.

"They deserve to go up. We are rooting for Notts County. We want to see them go up." McElhenney then signed off by exclaiming: "Paul Mullin is one of the greatest football players in the world."

i know there is a bit a jealousy in our camp when it comes to wrexham and their owners, especially ryan reynolds but he just comes across a very nice person. wishing us all the best and saying that he is rooting for us, well not many other owners or people in football would say that. most would ramble on about their club, their season and pay no attention to anyone else.

It’s refreshing to see someone like Ryan Reynolds show such class and sportsmanship in wishing Notts County all the best. It’s a shame that not everyone can display this level of graciousness. Well to him for setting a positive example.

I like Ryan Reynolds’ sentiment and to wish Notts County all the best. It would be a shame if we missed out on promotion. Preparing for the playoffs is crucial to settle the squad and give it their all. Let’s hope for the best!

I am in agreement with every comment before mine. @Joshua's point about shining a light is valid. Although Wrexham fans and others may believe that the pressure is on us, if we concentrate on the positives and strive for promotion, I don't think the expectations will only be on us, but also on those we compete against.

Just wanted to give a quick shoutout to Notts County. This season has been on fire and they’ve been killing it every step of the way. After experiencing the heartache at Wembley, I’m rooting for you guys. Keep up the amazing work! 🙌

This season has been an absolute joy to watch. If it wasn’t for Notts and Wrexham being so closely matched in their battle for the National League title, it could have been just another run-of-the-mill season. But credit must be given where it’s due, to Luke Williams, the squad and our owners. And let’s not forget Ryan Reynolds, who has shown himself to be a true gentleman with his gracious comments about Notts. He seems to have his heart in the right place.

When it comes to class, Ryan Reynolds is just something else. He’s not only incredibly talented and successful, but he’s also a genuinely nice guy. He’s always using his platform to spread positivity and kindness, and it’s so refreshing to see. He truly sets the bar high for what it means to be a class act.

Well, I must say, that Ryan Reynolds must have been brought up right. He must have come from a loving family that taught him to be kind and considerate. It’s very positive to see that Notts has earned his praise, but for him to mention it outright when the focus is on Wrexham, well that’s beyond class. It’s something else entirely. It just goes to show that good upbringing and strong values can make all the difference in the world.

Congratulations to Wrexham on winning the title! Both teams have pushed each other throughout the season and without that close rivalry, it might have been a different story. I also want to passionately and genuinely praise Ryan Reynolds for his kind comments about Notts. It’s great to see such sportsmanship.

Fair play to Ryan Reynolds for his statements and well wishes towards Notts. It’s been unbelievable how good this season has been. The players just need to go that extra mile this time and finish the job in the playoffs. Let’s do this! COYP!!

Wrexham fan, I come in peace! This is what I have just posted on the Wtrexham forum.....

Every Wrexham fan is rooting for Notts County to come through the playoffs. Proper club, magnanimous in defeat against us in what was virtually a title decider at our place a few weeks ago when Ben Foster saved a 96th minute penalty to deny them a draw. Sadly there are no guarantees in the playoffs as we well know. Chesterfield in third place, 23 points behind County, Bromley in seventh place, 31 points behind. They have been on our forum to congratulate us when they must be really hurting after beating the league points and goals record and not being champions. They have invited Wrexhan fans to their playoff games wearing their own colours were they will be welcomed by County fans, and there will be some takers. A class outfit. This is football the way it should be.....
