NOTTS County would like to bring Callum Ball back to Meadow Lane.

The 21-year-old Derby County striker has returned to Pride Park because his short-term loan with the Magpies ended this week.

But Notts boss Shaun Derry is set to get on the phone to Rams boss Steve McClaren over a new deal, which could be until the end of the season.

After moving to Meadow Lane on loan deadline day at the end of November, Ball only played four games for the Magpies because he sidelined over Christmas with concussion.

He did not score in black and white stripes, but he did play a big part in a vital three-game unbeaten run before Christmas, helping Notts to big wins against Gillingham and Colchester United and a 1-1 draw against Bristol City in his last game.

I dont see what the lad actually delivered to the table, he did not score. I would rather see Haber return, who started for Stevenage today.

What did Callum Ball offer us which Murray, Coombes and Co dont?

callum looked useful, he dug in and seemed likely to score in the couple of games i saw him play. its a shame he missed that chance which sort of bobbled away from him, i would have back.

Thats the problem with loan players... we seem to have a few on load soon going back. They eventually have to go back sometime and a deal cannot always be agreed. Loans are good but depending on too many loan players is a bad idea.

hes a better player then haber would rather have ball back or look else where then re signing haber.

I'd be happy with Ball coming back. He won everything in air in the games I saw him play. It's a shame the concussion came when it did, as a longer run in the side would have been useful

I'm not sure apart from attitude and effort, if he actually brings anything else to Meadow Lane. I'm far from against the move, however I would hope we can attract someone with a little more experience - perhaps someone who isn't prolific but knows where the net is.

Callum Ball had a good youth and reserve record, though there's not much signs league wise.

Haber I am not sure about, seems likely to stay now he's getting played. I might be in dreamland though! As-long as we don't shop in poundland this transfer window!

Haber is the more accomplished of the two IMO. I'd prefer him but Derry didn't play him when he was here & available.

Ball is a bit raw but he provided a constant nuisance value and worked hard. Didn't look like a goalscorer to me, rarely got in a position to offer a genuine goal threat but he was a good outlet and held the front line well on his own.

Either of them are a mile better than Showaddywaddy, & Haynes!

I too liked Haber, for me he always looked to be our best threat up front. Given the run, I honestly believe he could have been a 15-20 a season man.

If it was a toss up between Ball and Haber I would definitely take Haber, he seemed more capable of scoring goals, I can't understand why he wasn't given a decent run.

I'm not sure Haber could hit 10 but he puts himself about, I'm not sure if we will be getting Ball back.

Personally I hope we hear some news and if any strikers are signed, surely we need to review the one's we have? I think we have one too many strikers and I think this is why we don't see much consistency from them. I felt Enoch would go on to surprise us this season, although I think he's doing reasonably well - I just feel the fact he got injured and then didn't feature it effected him.

Still Ball is young and raw as mentioned, I wouldn't be annoyed if we signed him but I hope for better.

Plus he's Canadian ha ha ha.

Seriously, I Thought Haber was the real deal, he just needed more game time.
