7 subs in EFL

I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) that we can now have seven players on the bench next season which will be a lot better because we’ll be able to have a goalkeeper on the bench, I’m always really nervous when Slocombe gets injured although schmichael Doyle did ok didn’t he?

yes, i believe 7 players can be named, i thought for a second the efl had decided to allow 7 active subs in games that would be insane. thankfully, its just the amount that can be named on the bench and it should give more fringe players a chance to come on in games.

whilst allowing luke williams to select players to cover more than just certain areas. i.e midfielders and 1 striker.

Yes, 7 players can be named as subs. Which means more players on the bench and more of a reason to have depth in the defensive area.

There were times last season where we were very blessed in attack, but a little lacking due to injuries in defence. This will help resolve that, as it will naturally give players more of a chance to feature. Instead of the same players almost guaranteed to get on, with 5 only being named before. We can leave a keeper there, then use the remaining 6 spaces to give Luke Williams more room for thought on how we can make important changes.

Having 7 substitutes will make life a bit easier for Williams. It will give him more options during games and we may see players rotating between starting and coming on from the bench more frequently. It’s something the National League needs to modernise.
