This Seems a Little Strange the Academy having Matches While the First Team Squad Is Away. Surely it would Have Been Better, For Stuart And His Coaching Staff being there to Run An Eye Over Notts Up And Coming Talent?

Oh Silly Me. The Reason For These Matches Is Well, We Can Sell Him, Sell Him And Sell Him. Because It Seems Notts Don't Want To Promote Their Own Talent Into The First Team Squad At Some Future Date.

I know that we can all be a little cynical about the reasons that Clubs have academies, nowadays. We know that in this modern football World there is always a reason to try to make money.

Nurturing young footballing talent does have an end goal, we all know that, but those young footballers need our support by us going to one of these academy matches once in a while and giving our support to them.

Some young footballers do make it to the big time, some get a reasonable living from playing the sport they love, & others unfortunately, fall by the wayside.

But if a club like Notts can nurture & develop young players with dreams of making it big, either with Notts or another club, why not?

Major Talent Will Always Shine Through. The Trouble is if Notts did Unearth a Future Super Star, you can Guarantee he wouldn't be at the Lane Long before the Big Clubs come sniffing Round. Because as You have said in the Past @Robbie Big Clubs don't want to Nurture their own Talent they just Want To Buy It from another Club.

Some Players are late Bloomers Look at Macca he was released by York City and spent a few years Kicking Around the Lower Leagues (was it at the 7th Level? ) He was given his chance by Gateshead, then Notts took him On and the Rest as they Say Is History. The Annoying thing is there might be a Hidden Talent in the Notts Academy, But because of the Attitude Notts have appeared to have Taken the Magpies will never get any Benefit from that Player, because they won't give him a Run in the First team, to see how he develops. After a Couple of years being Loaned out by Notts, he could move on and another Club, who are Prepared to take a Risk on  playing him could Gain a Hugh Transfer Fee for Him., when that Money could have benefitted Notts instead of the Kids New Team.

Look at Tiernan Brookes if he goes on to have an Excellent Season at Gateshead and he catches the Eye of Some Scout from Higher Up the Footballing Pyramid, and Gateshead sell Him they Get the Double Benefit of him  having played for them and then get the financial Reward when the Sell Him.

I don't think it's odd that Notts are continuing the U18s pre-season whilst the first team is away, the majority of first year scholars and young professionals are more often featured in the 'development squad' that arranges games between local clubs but isn't an official reserve team due to the costs involved.

If any of the young players would be included in the U18s games, then it just opens the door to an academy player. Whilst it's very important that our young pros are playing in the pre-season friendly with the first team. That environment is massive for young talent. You won't get that experience playing Norwich's U18s or Fast Track Academy. Plus, it will give our fans the chance to get behind the academy, as only a portion would have gone to the German friendly.

i wished the youth team had a proper development squad to move up to, i believe this would further help them become ready for first team football. i understand the current decision to afford costs by playing local teams in friendlies but league structures are competitive other wise they are just friendly games with no real purpose.

the u18s did not do practicably well last season. :(

https://uk.soccerway.com/national/england/youth-alliance/20232024/northeast---2nd-phase/lower-table-round/g23720/

at least the league system is something they can push to do well in and hopefully come against better youth teams in time.

Unfortunately the match ends in a 5-1 defeat today up at Moor Farm against a good Derby side,  Zac Denman with the goal for Notts.

Fantastic again to see 15 year olds Ashton Shaw and Kameron Muir getting minutes!

Our academy’s level becomes apparent when they face bigger teams. This might be why the club is hesitant to give our young players more serious roles, but individuals can flourish in a good side. Losing to Derby’s U18s isn’t a disaster; they’ve produced some excellent talent. All we can do is encourage them to keep going and wish them well for the upcoming season.

This week we say goodbye to two members of staff who are moving on to pastures new. Harry Triptree joined us back in 2022 and became a valued member of our Academy, having a big impact on the development of B Team players Lucien Mahovo, Ryley Reynolds and Charlie Gill.

Aaron Large also leaves his post as Lead YDP Coach. His infectious character and dedication to his role will be missed around the building, but we wish him well in his new venture with the Steven Gerrard Academy.
