I think the Reedtz brothers will stick by Maynard whether Notts are promoted or not. If Notts maintain reasonable form right up untill the end.

Notts have been very unfortunate with having so many injuries this season & if Notts don't achieve promotion they won't hold that failure against him.

The only caveat to that would be maintaining good & reasonable form right up until the end. If Notts falter & finish up mid table without even achieving a play off place things could be different for him.

A mid table finish wouldn't be regarded as progress from last season. Update till now, there has been a marked progress.

I would hope they stick with him, we need stability, I believe Maynard has been unlucky with injuries to key players. 

If we do go up, the close season would be interesting we would need to strengthen the squad to be able to compete and hopefully consolidate our position.

@Scotty I’m not sure it will do that, I think we are all grown up enough on here to debate things sensibly. You could say that about any subject, it’s a discussion forum, some people will think he should be kept others will think opposite, as long as it doesn’t get nasty there’s nothing wrong with differing opinions.

It’s interesting how Chris and Alex analyse football, the league table for them is just a small part of it, where as to us fans it’s everything. They look and dig a lot deeper and I’m always intrigued by their own table which they say gives another perspective on how well a team is performing and will likely perform in the future. Ultimately, I guess, this is how Stuart Maynard will be judged. It’ll never happen but I’d like to see that table, my guess is it’ll be similar to an XG table but use a lot of additional data too.

For those interested in terms of XG, in that table (the one I use from footballxg.com) we are currently 3rd on 56 Points. We are underperforming our XG by 7, so we should’ve probably scored more goals. But also, we are over-performing when it comes to XGA (expected goals against) which is also 7, that just confirms Bass is really good basically!

Anyway, back on topic! Unless we have a bad run and drop out of the play-offs by a considerable margin, I don’t think Stuart Maynard will be replaced because, albeit through some frustrating performances at the minute, we are better off than last season. And I do think performances can only get better again, hopefully Tranmere was a bit of a wake-up call.

I do think we need at least one more first team coach though, and maybe that’s where the Bros and Stuart will work together to strengthen us (a tough act to follow on from Matt Saunders who has completed football tactics).

I don’t see why the Reedtz family would want to part ways with Stuart Maynard. Although I was critical of him after the Salford game, I believe the team showed great determination, they have his support, and Maynard really stepped up. For me, it’s important to see him learning and, despite some disappointing performances, he is doing a good job.

Given that his assistant and senior coach left during the season, I think he managed to stay focused on what mattered and has not shied away from his responsibilities at the club. He has my support, and I can admit when I’m wrong. However, I believe that securing a playoff spot is crucial for many fans. This team is good enough for promotion, but we have quite a few injury-prone players, and many of them provide the quality and creativity needed in tough situations.

I hope he gets more time to prove himself, but I also think it’s important to bring in more quality players, especially in key areas like the striker's department.

Kieran Maguire on @TheMagpieCircle podcast pointed out that supporters expectations  don't necessarily align with reality. Take budgets for example, Notts seemingly have a middling budget, meaning probably 7 clubs at least have larger playing budgets.

The key is the Reedtz Bros look to outperform the budget. Kieran, likened Notts to Brighton, it's a slow build...but supporters can take faith in, that Notts are building.

budget and the squad is two things, and is not always equal to the success but i do think that a lot of fans do have unhealthy or unrealistic expectations. some of it seems right considering the squad we have, other bits makes me unhappy with how some make themselves seem like notts have earned promotion without playing a single game. i think notts should stick with stuart maynard, provided we are moving in the right direction. he can learn a lot and the only thing which would make me reconsider is if we were to plummet and show no signs of being a good team. i do think the football is much better under maynard, he has struggled with injuries and tactical decisions of his own but at this level hes perfectly fine. sacking maynard without proper reason could undo what he and previous managers have done.

if we dont get promoted, fine. if we end up in the playoffs it can be a lottery and i think we have seen under the reedtz that the club continues to move forward.

Even if we get to the playoffs but fail to achieve promotion, I will still regard the season exploits as progress.

We may not be able to keep hold of Jatta if we fail to go up, but we have a striker in Traore who I believe could step up to the plate.

Regardless of where we finish in the league, there has been progress - as the starting 11 is vastly different to last season it could be recruitment rather than coaching, but - even when results have not gone our way we have not witnessed the all too frequent capitulations of last term.

The improvement in defence has come at the expense of some attacking flair which is reasonable given the urgent work needed at the back.  Now that is done we should be able to strengthen in other areas come the summer.  This is where we will see a good manager continue to improve the squad.  I, for one, hope Stuart Maynard is given the chance to show he can do it.

I can accept that Notts might not be ready quite yet for promotion. The inconsistencies and reliance on influential players might help Stuart Maynard in time, and I hope the club continues to back him. Whilst he's not perfect, I believe he's good enough and just needs to be braver at times. His game management when things aren't working could be better, but these are all reasons why he should be given longer. If the signs show improvement, we would be going the right way, and I think this is the case so far under Maynard.
