Match Discussion: Game 35 - The Bluebirds (H)   Live

The ref had the worst performance of the night, closely followed by us and then Barrow. It was just a bad game of football that I really want to forget quickly.

No idea what the goal was ruled out for in the end, some Barrow players were appealing for offside others looked they were saying it hit someone’s arm… It was just desperation. And how Barrow didn’t get a single yellow card for their time wasting in the second half was just mind-boggling.

But in a game where the opposition lacked any real quality, we just didn’t do anything until we went 2-0 down and in the end we just ran out of time. For 60 minutes prior it was far too slow and the repetition of passing the ball to feet over and over to just put a hopeful cross in was painful. To lose that game is so discouraging, especially when our recent home performances have been so lacklustre in recent weeks too.

We are lucky in a sense that from all the other matches only Bradford won, everyone else in the top 8 dropped points… That said, at the moment this doesn't feel like a team that is going to finish in the top 3.

Bass - 6 - Don't think he was at fault for either.

Macari - Not sure

Platt - 5.5  - Was alright for the most part.

Bedau - 6 - Decent.

Gordon - 3 - Don't think he's ever beaten a man in his life. Predictable.

Jarvis - 2 - Not a wing back.

Palmer - 6 - Seemed alright.

Abbott - 6 - OK

Whitaker - 2 - Out-muscled, outfought.

Jatta - 4 - Another sitter missed.

Traore - 5 - barely touched the ball.

Maynard - 2 - Got it all wrong.

Grant - 6.5 - Only player that seemed to figure out Barrow were shite.

Tsaroulla - 6

It was a poor performance tonight, no getting away from it. Just one win in the last 5 matches with two draws and two defeats has stopped the Notts momentum.

I think we are now competing for the third promotion spot now. Bradford have found form & are pulling away from us

The next six matches will decide our fate whether it will be the automatics or not.

Wimbledon away

Grimsby Away

Chesterfield at home

Crewe at home.

Newport  Away

MK Dons at home

Six  games that will determine our fate this season. I think we will need four wins as a minimum plus a draw to stay in contention. Incidentally, if we did get four wins & a draw that would probably seal a playoff place

I think that beating Wimbledon Chesterfield & Crewe would be big. We need Didzy back too.

If we look at it another way Notts have been fortunate tonight & haven't lost any ground apart from the fact that Walsall & Bradford now look favourites to take the top two places, so I think  Notts are now competing for that third spot

By the end of Match we will know if Notts will still be challenging for an automatic spot or not. The injuries are not helping us & I don't think the new players are stepping up for us just yet.

What worries me is that SM seems to be having a confidence crisis. He doesn't seem to know how to react when change is required. He leaves it until it is too late. Matthew Saunder's departure has had an effect for sure.

Notts didn't play well and deserved all they got. But other teams around them lost too. Notts have been fortunate with the other results..

Notts need to reset and prepare for Wimbledon away which will be absolutely massive.

Notts still have automatic promotion in their hands. They just need to grasp it and believe just like Bradford are doing right now.

Notts could have won last night along with everyone else around us and we would have been no better off.

Notts have had a break and need to make it pay against Wimbledon. That game will be a genuine six pointer.

It's disappointing that Notts could not execute many of the chances. Truth be told, defensively we have been ropey for over a month, and performance-wise we are back to being very inconsistent. It highlights how much we miss David McGoldrick, whose experience helps us manage games a lot better.

I don't want to write about the officiating, as it might come over as excuses or bitterness, but Barrow had a game plan and worked well despite Notts controlling the ball. They took their chances, and Notts can't make a high amount of possession work in games like this.

I don't think it's just the injuries; Stuart Maynard needs to sort out the consistency. I am not calling for his head, but if he can be stronger, I believe it would help us with slipping further. The results as of late are not good enough if we want to aim for automatics, and the pressure is clearly part of the problem.

I can't put into writing how frustrating yesterday felt. I can take losing, and not every game will go our way, but we are simply handing draws and defeats to the opposition.

notts should have made the second half count and there was moments i felt we could but we just lacked that cutting edge on goal. bringing conor grant on was a good decision, and i can see why he does not always start because he can fade in and out. he made a good impact and i dont think the side is struggling due to injuries, more because they are not putting attacking practices into the play. i thought barrow did well to sit back, but play when the opportunity came.

you can see that they are a good league team but we had every chance to turn the game around and we just failed.

i left feeling frustrated but with the game in hand, plus the results going in our favour. i think winning a few games back to back would help, but we need to start taking the chances we get because the results in other games wont always go our way. just a bit more urgency at times and better movement seems enough to give us a bit more opportunity to create something more clean cut.

I don’t think Traore is quite up to speed yet, he didn’t link well with Jatta the seemed to be on a different wavelength and as is said above he should have been able to jump higher to win that header and prevent the goal.

On the disallowed goal, having just seen the replay from @Piethagoram's clip it hits the Barrow player and no-one is in the keepers eyeline. The most telling thing is the reaction from the Barrow player who has the best view (standing on space on the right-hand side) he instantly puts his head in hands, he knew…

I’d have liked to have seen a touch map for Traore, I’d be surprised if he got into double figures. Not his fault though but in Jatta and Traore we had a physical striker and a quick striker yet we didn’t use either of their strengths enough. I know they'll need time to get used to each others game, but I really don't know why we took so long to get the ball to them.
