Where are they now : Jon Stead

Featured Replies

The last I knew about Jon Stead, he was running his own coaching school and had been appointed as a coach. I can’t remember which team, but this sounds like a big move for him. He always looks so serious, though. He should relax a bit more!

I liked Jon Stead as a player, but not so much beyond that. I’m surprised to see him become an assistant, as I don’t think he has the patience for it. Half the time, he was on the ground, then straight up in the face of the officials. I can see him being even more animated now, with no control over the game.

Good luck to Jon. I don't think anyone can truly say who will or won't make a good assistant or manager. Wayne Rooney was a world class player, but he's not been great as a manager. On the other hand, some of the best managers never played at a high level or barely played at all.

I always loved playing against John in the then Notts Thursday League, you could only just get a *** paper under his feet when he jumped for the ball, hence I beat him every time (6' 7" v 6' and half an inch). Good luck in all you do big lad, it was a pleasure to play on the same pitch.

I think it's a good decision and chance for Jon Stead; I have no doubt he can be a good coach. I wished his time here had ended better. He gave the impression that he was always annoyed and wanted to leave. I don't think being pals with Kevin Nolan helped, but good luck to him in his new role.
