RIP Dick Edwards

I’ve not seen this mentioned so apologies if it has. I was saddened to hear that Dick Edwards has passed away, many older pies fans will remember Dick from the 1960s he played number 5 I think in central defence.

I believe he also played for the Stags and Aston Villa. Once he’d retired from football he played the guitar and sang in local pubs and clubs.

I have to be honest, I didn’t know about this before now. I also don’t know much about Dick Edwards. He made 245 appearances and started his football career with Notts County.

This comes as a shock. It’s very sad news to hear.

It’s a bit surprising that Notts didn’t say anything about it on the official site. He was such a big part of our club’s history. Aston Villa shared a tribute, which was respectful, but most of his playing days were spent with us.

Rest in peace, Dick Edwards. He’ll be remembered by many who watched him play.

Very sad to hear this news. He left the club before I started supporting Notts.

He had 9 years at Notts with 245 appearances & scoring 21 goals.

A man with a long service record at Notts, almost unheard of nowadays.

Rest in peace Dick.

I’ve got some of those old programmes somewhere I’ll dig them out.
