Favourite Childrens Programmes

My list would feature many from the 80's and 90's, it's a shame these days they're watered down so much and each one tends to remind me of another. Hardly any are original or creative! (At least this is my opinion)

Where is the compassion, meaning or even life lessons?  Imagination is so weak with today TV full stop, they just focus on speaking down to children.

i wouldnt say i had a favourite and i dont watch children shows today, i have no reason. the ones i know of are pretty boring

asterix and obelix was fun, liked the books too.

From my early childhood (this will show my age) Seahunt with Lloyd Bridges, it was a programme about exploring under the sea, I used to love it.

Yes Joe,you and your brother used to send me up the wall with Transformers.I also remember Seahunt.Lloyd Bridges was the father of Beau and Jeff Bridges.My favourite(bet this is too far back even for Mr Hateley)was Billy Bunter.

My favourite childrens programmes as a child were similar to yours Notts-Joe. I liked Transformers and TinTin mostly.

Yes Joe,you and your brother used to send me up the wall with Transformers.I also remember Seahunt.Lloyd Bridges was the father of Beau and Jeff Bridges.My favourite(bet this is too far back even for Mr Hateley)was Billy Bunter.

I watched the Seahunt thing, it seemed familiar. Not sure why exactly but I recall watching TV on a sunday, mission impossible? Had a similar setup as Seahunt where they would focus on scenes with talking, rather than just action these days. Used to love MI but towards it's disappearance on our television screens it had become a little stale. I used to love watching wrestling! WWF (WWE before I'm sued) Hulk Hogan and the 90's generation made it such compelling for me and I would of loved to see some of the English wrestlers who my parents/family often spoke about. It's very dramatized these days and the action is very basic, I understand they put their bodies on the lines but I'm sure even they would prefer to bring it back to the style of say 1998. Just not the insane risks :/ Once is more than enough.

Tin tin was also another favourite of mine. I downloaded the series and watched them with Jake and Ellie, one in which became obsessed.

I have succeeded in getting my son into all but one of the above 

 

As for kids tele today, I feel alot talk down to kids, mainly Teletubbies.....But there are a lot that really help kids. For example, Numtums really helped Harry with his numbers....since watching that he can now count from 1-11, which is brill for a child of his age!

Mickey Mouse Club is still on I was watching it with my grandson only today, he loves it. It's on Disney Channel I think.

I was playing with my grandson today and he had lego figures on horses so I said mine would be Lone Ranger and his could be Tonto, of course he didn't know what I was on about as he is only 4 but it reminded me of another favourite programme from my childhood.

 

 

Strangely enough the theme tune was the William Tell Overture (I think)

I believe that used to be on either ITV or Channel 4, I can recall watching it on a sunday before my grandparents would come over for Sunday dinner. It should to be on before mission impossible and that other one I forget the name of where the people was smaller sized humans. Super Ram may recall better than I do and I believe you're right tony.

I know the programme you mean Joe but can't remember what it was called.(I'll ask your mum).I also liked The Lone Ranger kimo sabi(remember that Tony)It also reminds me of the joke-What is the definition of an intelectual -Someone who listens to The William Tell Overture without thinking of The Lone Ranger.

The chap that played Tonto was an actually red indian his name was Jay Silverheels.

 

We all remember that Lone Ranger's horse was called Silver. "Hi Ho Silver Away" but did you know Tonto's horse was call Scout? My grandson asked me but I had to look it up.

I only remember the lone ranger to be honest, whilst I'm at it I can honestly say I wasn't aware his horse was called 'silver'. I'm laughing now but I just thought it was a weird catchphrase. LOL

There used to be a lot of westerns on TV.Anyone remember The Cisco Kid or Hopalong Cassidy.Then in the 60's there was Wagon Train,Bonanza and Rawhide to name a few.Now it seems to be all detective types.

Loved. Bill and Ben when I was very young and got very excited a few years ago when I heard it was being revived.What a disappointment.Still,as an old man suppose I should have known better.

Everything thats brought back now tends to be animated or just nothing like it was... which is always disappointing as its the not the same as we all loved as kids ourselves.

Can't think of any revived or updated TV programmes(or films for that matter)that are as good as the originals.There must be at least one I can't think of,perhaps someone can put me right.Of course I may not agree.

Just spotted an actor on TV and it reminded me that 'The Deamon Headmaster' was a household favourite.
