Cranston staying for the year...

Agreed a contract extension until close season. Should have been longer imo. Excellent addition to the squad and genuine pressure for Adams at LB.

Left-back Jordan Cranston has agreed to extend his stay at Meadow Lane...

The former Wolves full-back arrived in September on a short-term deal until January, but the club were keen to secure the 20-year-old's signature.

The attacking full-back has played eight times for the Magpies after arriving from Nuneaton Town earlier this campaign and has been a big part of the team's defensive success.

The number 33 has put pen-to-paper on a new 18-month deal and could feature tonight at Barnsley, as the Magpies seek a tenth game unbeaten.

He told the Official Site: "I didn't really have a good pre-season, but now I'm feeling like I belong and I'm settled.

"It wasn't a hard decision. It's first team football at the end of the day and I'm delighted to have secured my future.

"I've settled in well and now I'm looking to carry on our good form, with a decent result at Barnsley tonight.

"I'd like to thank Greg and the Gaffer, and of course Mick Halsall who helped me get my move originally.

"My target is now to try and stay in the team, get a string of performances, help the lads out and hopefully have a successful season."

Watch the moment Jordan signed his deal on the club's Instagram account.

Please correct me if i'm wrong?

Wouldn't an 18 month deal mean End of 2015 - 2016?

Great signing, Young and Hungry

There's some inconsistencies here.

Whatever the outcome, he's done very well since coming in and deserves to be signed for a decent length. I know people want to keep players hungry but I'd like to see them smiling and enjoying their football. This comes with knowing he will be around and featuring, which players near expiration might not for whatever reasons.

oops. I read the article as a 6 month extension (until end of this season) so now I've read it again, happy, happy, happy. I take back my not long enough comment. Contract is just right. Looks like Keane might not see a game for a while now he is 3rd behind Cranston and Adams.

A cracking bit of news...

Loving the way SD and GA are sorting out and shipping out those they don't want/need... while bringing in players that they do, and similarly those players that fit what they are about.

Great to see the contracts get tied up early too.
