If you could re-visit one game...

Featured Replies

Random question, just for a bit of a fun really. If you could go back and re-visit one game, be it a Notts game or a game you saw on TV, whatever, which would it be and why? We've all seen some crackers over the years so come on, if you could go back and sit through ONE game again, what would it be?

The Liverpool v Newcastle game during 95-95...

I'd go back to when we beat a dirty Italian side (they was) and lifted a trophy at Wembley, that was a very special day for me.

Fantastic game to watch, even as a youngster.

A field where dreams become reality.

Bishop's goal against Man City at ML.  This time I'd try not to hit the random Notts fan sitting next to me in the face by mistake during the celebration! I felt bad when it drew blood from his lip, haha.

The best bit about that Liverpool v Newcastle game was ha ha ha, Keegan when the 4th went in, talk about gutted, ha ha ha priceless

Mind you, I forgot about the bit where Razor verifies the ref's gender....

Great question @weymouthPIE this is a no brainer for me, when I read the question the game that sprang straight into my mind was when Big Tony Hateley came home in 1970. His first game back was at home to Northampton we were in the 4th Division which was then the bottom tier of the football league. The crowd was an amazing 21,000 the atmosphere was absolutely electric, what a match, imagine that 21,000 at Meadow Lane in the fourth division! I will never forget the feeling I had that day, it was brilliant. Tony went on to help us win promotion back to Division 3, we had a great side and the signing of Tony Hateley was the icing on the cake.

Blimey I'm getting emotional just remembering that.

Easy choice for me

23rd May 1954

Hungary 7 - 1 England

To see the greatest team in world history destroy the so called best team in the world for the second time in 6 months, the first game at Wembley Hungary won 6-3, the most famous clip of this game is Billy Wright diving in to tackle Ferenc Puskas only to be totally dumbfounded by the skill of the great Hungarian, one particular player would be of the most interest to me - Ferenc Puskas.

The world wouldn't have the Dutch & Brazilian total football if it wasn't for the Hungarian coaches from this great team.

People bleat on about how good Di stefano was, he was good but only once finished ahead of Puskas in the scoring charts at Madrid, the first season when Puskas intentionally passed to him when in front of an open goal so as not to rock the apple cart so to speak (they were joint top scorers at the time

Some good memories here :) If it were to be a game I attended, it would be Notts v Torquay in January 2007. Despite the fact Notts won 5-2 it probably dosen't really stick in the memory for many fans, but for me it was a really special day as it was the last time I would see Notts before we left Nottingham to move to Weymouth the following week. What a way to go out it was! It really did just sum up Notts County. We were chasing the play-offs, they were bottom. We went 1-0 up, then within the blink of an eye we were 2-1 down. Typical Notts, we thought, always bottling it against the bottom sides. Then Andy Parkinson came on for someone who was injured, can't remember who but it changed the game. We scored two goals in 5 minutes to lead 3-2, and that was all in the first half! In the second half Notts ran riot, eventually running out 5-2 winners but it could have been 7 ot 8, we didn't let up that day. The atmosphere in X block was brilliant that day, the Notts fans never stopped. Great day. Actually get quite emotional remembering it all, I do miss Meadow Lane. Gutted there's no footage of the game on YouTube.

But if I could go and witness any game from the past, it'd be the 3-2 win over that lot in 1982. Both sides in their pomp with Cloughie and Sirrel in the dugouts, they still had a lot of the European cup winning side, in division 1, and we put one over on them. What a day that must have been!

If I could go and witness a non footballing moment though - Queen at live aid!

James

Charlie Palmer day: 2 -1 win at home. The game had everything !

Or Steve Cherry V Man City. Gary Lund stole a 1 - 0  win  after Notts were battered by City .

Both games were bad for the nerves but its not the County way to do things easily is it.

Mine would have to be These Couple of Games.

Video #1 Is where i got Crushed against the ffront wall at WHL. But that goal is the goal of my life. and it will take some beating.

That night was special @Canadian cannot remember seeing the lane that full since.... but if I remember rightly the official attendance was put at 14,000 or something like that, yet the place was rammed and rocking

Play Off Final replay 1988.. Walsall 4 Bristol City 0

David Kelly hat trick after we had won away 3-1 and lost at home 0-2. The third match was just two days after the second one!
