Women's WC 4G pitches

I watched Canada vs China live last night. I was never a fan of 4G pitches and last night is the reason why. Canada play the ball around at pace and it opens up packed defences. It's very difficult to do that on 4G. What we got was a slow paced game.

Maybe the quality will improve as the teams get used to the pitches. It needs to as there is a huge audience watching the tournament, it's a massive opportunity to promote the women's game. Grass is miles better than 4G. I can't help thinking this would be an outstanding tournament if it were on grass. There's no need for 4G in Summer in Canada.

The game allowed players to have way too much time on the ball, yet nobody really used it effectively. I think China had the right approach, the forward swaying passes to players advancing but in key areas they just went out wide and then attempted to cross. It really highlight the standard of football for me, as when I felt something could happen, it would just turn into nothing.

I don't think the pitches can take all the blame, however hopefully some teams find it easier to play on.

I felt the surface spoiled the game too but what about the attendance.

I haven't seen a game yet, but the women's game is noticeably slower than the men's. As far as I know artificial pitches are usually used in Canada due to the climate, so it's something the Canadians will be used to.

The England v Ireland game, how boring was that? The players need to reflect on how poor it has been so far.

I have already lost interest, I have to be honest the standard is poor. I have watched many tournaments in real life, none of which are as boring as thus World Cup.

Like most World Cups, it will only get going in the knock out stage. Having said that, there are some tasty games coming up in the group stages, Sweden vs Nigeria, USA vs Australia, France vs England, Germany vs Norway are a few examples.

I have to agree with @Dripsey3. After the first set of games I expect more to go for it, they can't all end 0-0 and by the knock-out stage the favourites will be wanting to stake their claim. That said, I can see some of the more unknown sides making a name for themselves in this World Cup.
