Cooking

What do you do at meal times? Do you or your partner cook fresh food or do you rely on convenience food?

We make an effort to cook fresh meals, we love curries and used to buy takeaways or supermarket curries, then when we had a bit more time we started to buy the curry sauces and added our own meat and veg, now we make our curries completely from scratch using spices and fresh ingredients.

We also try to cook fresh for other meals too, fresh veg whenever possible not frozen or tinned.

How about you? Do you have time to cook fresh or would you rather have the convenience or ready prepared meals or takeaways?

Are we gradually losing the art of cooking? What do you think?

Everything gets cooked from scratch in this house, and the veg doesn't get any fresher... right outside the back door

I'm impressed I've tried growing veg but I'm hopeless we decided to try and grow what we use most so at the moment we have garlic, onions, basil and coriander, the garlic is looking good but the others are struggling.

I love me Sunday roast and its all cooked from scratch too. Vegetables fresh from the allotment, New potato's, runner beans, peas, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage (hispi) parsnips, celeriac, swede, and carrots. Leeks and sprouts in Winter.

Fruit we have strawberries plums (not quite ready) apples, pears, raspberries, melons, tomato's.

Love me salads in summer too, radishes, cucumbers, spring onions and lettuce, love this years little gems.

I am pretty lucky that between myself and @cheeky~k8 we can cook and try new things.

I love when Kate does home cooking as a family, as usually the children want things frozen which we don't tend to eat much of the same food. Yesterday we had a basic version of a Sunday dinner (because I am busy today) and the day before that we had cottage pie, all freshly home made. I'm a big fan of things in which we can all eat, so toad in the hole, pizza (we make our own bases at times) etc.

i made a Eton Mess on Sunday night, comprising of meringue's, (made myself, not shop bought), strawberries and fresh cream, and we added a blob of ice cream too. Was lovely, despite its name.

Due to me travelling a fair bit, I tend to eat out all the time. Usually I hit dinners or general fast food restaurants, though I do miss home made meals.

Especially English dinners.

When people ask what 'American Pie' is about, they're missing the point. The song isn't about the lines themselves - it's about what is between the lines. The song is about what isn't there.
