Liverpool risking reputation with reaction to Luis Suárez bite controversy

Although the reaction from Anfield was swift and serious, Liverpool's determination to retain their prize asset at all costs undermines their condemnation of his actions

This is just odd, the guy is very talented but he's a loose wagon. Clearly feels he can get away with his antics! He should be punished more seriously, he should be banned for 3-5 games as his attitude continues.

I think he is a disgrace to the modern game, I cannot stand him. He's the type player I would hate see wear a Notts shirt, I do not think Liverpool fans will care all that much but he should have been sent off.

The one thing I will always loathe Suarez for, more than any other, is the handball goal against Mansfield. To illegitimately deprive a non-league club of a potential windfall from a replay or even a historic victory is just sick. That sort of thing can cripple a lower or non-league club. The biting incidents (and it shows you the kind of nutcase he is by the fact I have to write about it in the plural) are just uncalled for, the diving, well that's just part of the game nowadays, even the handball against Ghana, that actually was punished and it was Ghana's to lose, which they did. But if Liverpool ever come down to Notts I will stand in solidarity with Mansfield.

@Joe Jones LOL!!

I think he's an idiot, talented but he was exactly the same in the dutch league. He couldn't stay on his feet for the life of him, so now seriously more needs to be done with regards to his behaviour.

Very unprofessional player, I dislike him more than Ronaldo.

He's a complete pillock and he's not the only one ,talented but flawed.

The Evra stunt, pure class! I wonder if will come back and bite him in his a*se though. LOL

He simply cares to much about winning, not his image or being a role model.

I once heard Paul Merson describe Luis Suarez as a 'Rolls-Royce footballer'. I know some of you will ask what on earth does Paul Merson know, and you may even remember the conversation I'm talking about but hear me out:

The conversation was taking place around the time of the Suarez Evra race row and Jeff Stelling was asking should Liverpool get rid of Suarez. Merson described Suarez as a Rolls Royce footballer, and stated 'Suarez's dont grow on trees'. To replace Suarez would cost a hell of a lot of money. Merson asked if you sell the Rolls Royce what car do you get then, to which Stelling said a Ferrari. And Merson made a great point saying "Ferrari, big flashy car but it aint got the class of the Rolls Royce, It might be good for a couple of weeks but in the long run the Rolls is better"

Now I know that sounds completely crazy but Merse makes a good point there. Liverpool would do very well to find a replacement for Luis Suarez. In my personal opinion Suarez is one of the top 5 players in world football at the minute. But then there's the other side of the coin as is being discussed here in that he brings so much controversy to Liverpool FC with him, and this isn't the first time he's been involved in this type of incident.

Whatever people say, football - particularly at the highest level is mainly a results business and where would Liverool be without Suarez?

There must come a point where they say right, enough is enough, we've stood by you, we've defended you every time somethigns popped up but this is once too many and we, as a football club are not willing to drag our reputation down any further to accomodate you.

It's a difficult one I suppose. I can't see Liverpool getting rid of him this season, but in terms of football if they dont make the top 4 next season, I think he'll be off.

Sorry to ramble on

He's supposedly being linked with a move abroad anyway James, I watched Liverpool TV the other night and they were talking about two bids for him which are more than the Andy Carroll deal and a little under what Real Madrid paid for Ronaldo. At the time I thought they were just discussing what 'ifs' and nothing official but it went on to show a comment by one of the chairman's from the club seeking him.

Liverpool's final finish might not be enough to keep his attention, I think either way, Luis Suarez needs to calm down and go back to playing football.

The way he acts is like a child, rather than an international player. I just don't like him, he wouldn't be so bad if it was a case of diving but he's beyond that.

I agree with Weymouth and Joe .No need for apologies either .Winning is what the modern game is all about., it appears.  Coming second is seen as failure. It seems to me that the true sporting aspect of football has been thrown away. Money and ego's are what counts today.

The sensible approach taken by my club , Notts and others is derided  by a lot of fans but this is still better than ending up like Portsmouth , Glasgow Rangers, Coventry and others .It's impossible for every team to have a successful season, so why just throw money away and why must we put up with petulant cheats?

Very good post Super-Ram, have to agree. As much as we all want success, at the end of the season only 1 team can be outright winners. I'll never understand why clubs throw ridiculous amounts of money at a dream. Surely by now there have been enough examples of it not working to put people off? Been there, done that

What a fantastic talent Suarez is but as Super Ram quite rightly said he is flawed, I wonder what makes he want to bite an opponent? I can't get my head round it.

I think it's his culture /upbringing. He probably hasn't learned that it's not acceptable and most likely still a child in some aspects, I'm not suggesting he is stupid but I wonder if it's because he grew up with very little limits. He does act like a child when Liverpool are losing sometimes :/

10 games ban, not enough. dont like or dislike him but this biting stuff is a joke.

If he learns from it, then I would say it's fair enough. I do feel he should have had more of a fine, he wouldn't worry about that but he does need to think about his future actions.

A 10 match ban hits the club much more than the player. Will he still be paid for not playing? He ought to be punished in some way  that he suffers not the club or their supporters. I don't know the answer though.

Perhaps he should do community service. Do some gardening for elderly people, clean graffiti off a building, work as a turnstile operator at a non league club, do a turn as a lollipop man on a busy road outside a school, work as a porter in a hospital, help out at a nursing home.

I'm sure it would bring him back down to earth. Any more suggestions?

Liverpool fined him, he asked for the money to go to Hillsborough support ground if I recall correctly.

Well I feel the club need to take a share of the responsibility, obviously not all but if they had a good discipline procedure, things like this would be greatly reduced. I don't blame Liverpool, this isn't my point but it will annoy him because he would prefer to be playing. He wouldn't cheat otherwise :)

He is the lowest of the low imo. To bite a fellow professional like that is disgusting. He deserves every bad wish.

Liverpool didn't miss him today, did they. Newcastle's worst home defeat since 1925.
