Who is the best manager for the club as a whole

Featured Replies

Like the title suggests who is the best manager for our club.

For me it is quite simply

Martin Allen

Never before nor since have I felt as connected to the club as I did when he was in charge

he was a bit overrated but we always knew where we was with him.

very funny person.

I thought he always had us playing in a manner that no-one disliked and we were always set up to win first and foremost.

As you say very funny person and will never forget his comment about leaving the city to play Forest.

I still think we would have been promoted with him.

i never felt he would gain us promotion but more offer a steady reign as manager. at the time that was not a bad thing, he could have set up his replacement to do better.

like clough did with mcclaren at derby.

Tbf he didn't have the chance as he was ousted.

Who would be your choice?

I don't think we've met the manager who's best to lead us forward through the divisions.

Martin Allen was brilliant and he had the ability to make things seem better, whilst he frequently made me laugh so hard - I just think he's best to remembered for that spell. He told me in person, after speaking to him after a game that he considered Notts to one of the biggest clubs he's ever worked with (along with some comments I wouldn't publish), yet he loved the fanbase (or seemed too).

Nobody who, I just know it's not JF. I could do better!

The reason I have chosen Martin Allen is because of the dischord between the fans and the club and the general bad feeling between everyone around the club.

He has the extremely rare talent of being able to unite a club and it's supporters, his big mystery was the Enoch Showumni transfer, why he wanted him is beyond me but we had some very good times under him.

@Northants Pie perhaps he could have made it work? Wasn't it Martin Allen who wanted RT to spend £150k on him? Thank god we got him for free. :P

@notts-joe  I would love to be a fly on the wall for the conversation when Guy Branston tries to tell him who to sign and play etc and I'd love the honesty he'd deal with Leigh Trew, sorry mistake, Leigh Curtis....

I have to say at the time it looked a good buy, He always looked great against us. Did he actually play many games under Mad Dog? I seem to remember him being injured just after purchase.

Mad Dog was sacked before we signed Showaddywaddy, he was signed during the summer of Keith Curle (was it Mad Dog, or the board that wanted him?) and promptly given Lee Hughes's No.9 shirt which instantly riled the supporters and probably gave them a reason to dislike Keith Curle. Poor bloke, he had pace in abundance, but very little else.

Martin Allen would be just the ticket right now, we badly need someone to unite everyone and make Meadow Lane a fun place to be again, for players and fans alike. This is what Moniz's successor needed to do, but unfortunately JF doesn't seem to think it's important. Allen is a bit of a loose cannon though, he's been on the receiving end of a string of mysterious sackings that seemed to have little to do with on-the-pitch matters. I'm reluctant to blame the Trews for that one.

As for Showunmi, if I remember right we were chasing him during Allen's reign and finally signed him when Curle was in charge. I think that one happened over the manager's head.

If Mr Hardy does buy the club then surely he will understand this, Martin Allen's off field games have never really been an issue for Barnet so maybe if the lines are drawn properly at the start then he could easily thrive.

Like I have said previously I would love it if he came back, no players had a bad thing to say about him when he was here and he could easily take the club into the championship imo

Lee Clarke someone of that type did well with Huddersfield at this level always around the top 5 got them playing kept Huddersfield up in the championship passion and pride takes no nonsense.

Id also re look at cooper think he is a good manager who plays attacking attractive football I still rember saying that day they beat us they were the best side is seen that year there football was immense.

Also sold some good young talent such as Nathan Byrne I belive for 5M we just need to stop going for these U21 coaches that are clueless

Lee Clarke has "apparently" got an issue with alcohol so that would be a definite no from me, I really like mark Cooper and would have him in a heartbeat, just see any of my other posts on threads about managers but for me we need someone a bit more dynamic with the supporter database hence Martin Allen

George best had a issue with drugs etc didn't stop him gasa had a drinking issue still was the best player of his generation.

And if that's the case why did we even look at him again the club don't do there research still think cooper would of fitted us like a glove,

He plays the same type of football moniz style just understand the English lower leagues .
