23 man England Squad

Sturridge and Wilshire over Danny Drinkwater is embarrassing to english football, here we have a guy who has just won the premier league playing more games than the two above players combined.. Not too mention the above two players failed to win anything. I can't help but feel sorry for players like Drinkwater, Noble (not our noble 😐), Cresswell, Shawcross, I'll throw Defoe in too seen as Sturridge got a place in the squad. All of these players have had excellent seasons at their clubs whereas Wilshire and Sturridge play for 'bigger' teams automatically just get jumped to the front of the que, pick players on form/games played Roy not reputation!

As for the rest of the squad, it excites me Vardy, Kane, Alli, Rashford good attacking players Eric Dier as an enforcer type of player, questions over the lack of wingers, slightly concerned at the back hey, its like watching Notts.

What's everyone's thoughts on the squad?

I will be fully backing them, even though we'll slip up early on haha!

Here's the squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Manchester City), Fraser Forster (Southampton), Tom Heaton (Burnley).

Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Everton), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur), Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool).

Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Ross Barkley (Everton), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), James Milner (Liverpool), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal).

Strikers: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United).

That squad needs another spoiler. I liked what I saw of Dier against Germany, but if he gets injured or suspended I worry that there's not enough protection for our (weak) back four. I would have given Drinkwater a go.

Oh, and Rashford? I'm not a fan of throwing in teenagers with little first team experience and expecting them to do a Michael Owen. It'll go to his head and by the time he's 21 he'll be yesterday's man and playing for Ipswich.

Rashford should have been playing in the U21 tournament with Jacky grealish!

How hendo and Wilshire can go over Drinkwater is ridiculous, both of them have had poor seasons and are currently hobbling about, Drinkwater has been pivotal to Leicesters season, quite like Carrick has been for years with United, he's someone that does a specific job and doesn't get all the limelight, I felt we should have been using the club relationships to our advantage eg: playing alli and Kane together and Drinkwater and vardy together, that way they already know how each other play, but we are England so we don't do things logically

Good points put well above , like the look of it going forward, but not overly confident defensively, think it's a little early for Rashford but you never know , another midfield enforcer maybe , I'm quiet looking forward to the tournament from an  Home nations perspective, but have to say come on England.

i think rashford could be useful, people are comparing him to experienced pros but he is getting goals and is learning.

the squad looks okay, we have gone into competitions too defensive in previous years but if we can just keep the back four as strong as possible. i think we will be okay.

It bemuses me how Ryan Shawcross, Aaron Cresswell and Mark Noble never get a look in, Rashford is either gonna be a big hit or massive flop. Where's Rooney going to fit into Roys plans, striker or midfielder? Not really a Rooney fan but we've taken 5 strikers if we're going to include him as striker. We've got a very good attacking team and we should do well going forward although it will be interesting when we come up against a big team. Bale running at that defence is a scary thought but hopefully Dier can put a stop to that before the he gets in the box! Looking forward to watch all the teams in the Euros tbh, who's everyone backing to win it?

How is everyone feeling regarding the Euro's?

I am quietly confident about England's chances, it can't be as bad as some.

I wonder if Gareth Bale will be held to his words about Wales winning the group (which I cannot see) but as it slowly creeps towards the tournament, the more excited I am getting. Not just about England but the whole thing, it should be good - I think Italy may surprise people among others. Yet Belgium will probably fall flat on their faces.

I feel we have a soft underbelly. We do have a lot of attacking potential, but that could yet be wasted if Roy insists on shoving Kane and Vardy out wide to accommodate Rooney. Of course the good thing about these tournaments is that even if it's a disaster, it's over in three games and we can enjoy watching the good teams instead.

I can't see Wales or either of the two Irelands doing anything to be honest. Wales looked very poor against Sweden the other day and were soundly beaten.

I think wales are a very strong 'team' but they are bang average besides Bale, I think we should do well but this is England! I think our defence is weak and we will struggle against good attacking teams but we have to stop trying to accommodate everyone in a system that doesn't work, you either play Kane or vardy, Rooney or Alli or Barkley, we can't just try and shove them all together and expect it to work

Im still unhappy about milner, Wiltshire and Henderson and if even 2 start against Russia I shall throw my toys out of the pram!

I can sort of understand why he took Milner as much as he is disliked by supporters, but Wiltshire and Sturridge should have been an either / or choice, just because they are so injury prone. Drinkwater should have gone without doubt and Roy has dropped a major one in not including him to cover Dier. I'm not overly fussed about Barkley either, he is another that has flattered to deceive and we are still waiting for him to come good.

Surely we are going to play a diamond, with a midfield four of Dier Wiltshire, Rooney and Alli

Drinkwater had a fantastic season with Leicester, but he wasn't good enough in the friendlies. I don't think he's goo enough for England, and I can see why Roy dropped him.

The CB positions are worrying, whilst Cahill and Smalling are no mugs, they are no John Terry or Ledley King, and will be found at by the better sides.
