Bennett off to Wales!

Scott Bennett has signed for Newport county! It was reported he had his contract terminated today but it has just been announced he has signed for Newport http://mobile.newport-county.co.uk/news/article/scot-bennett-signs-for-the-exiles-3133017.aspx

What do you think of Bennett leaving ? Would you have given him another chance ?

I didn't see him play, but the fact that he failed to force his way into such a poor defence speaks volumes. By all accounts he played his best football under Sheridan at Newport last season so I thought he'd be given a chance.

John Sheridan's most important job is to give the team a strong defence and a proper spine. He's virtually starting from zero.

Won't be missed too much never set the world alight for us, clearly a Branston signing.

I didn't see that one coming after Sheridan had him on loan and Newport and he was seen to impress. Makes room for one more defender. ????

It's funny how players can be a rock elsewhere but barely resemble a defender here.

I thought he looked good going forward but iffy defending, perhaps midfield or defensive midfield would have been better here rather than at centre back but it makes sense that he moves on (however much I feel he wasn't given a fair chance to start).

Not at all bothered by this departure, another valuable place in the squad created for the rebuilding ahead , think more will follow .

Not far enough away!

Only a look at Grimsby last pre-season , and Oxford away determined we had unearthed another one of Guy's liabilities

Guy actually said on Twitter that Bennett was one of our best signings...

He was pretty useless every time I saw him play, so I won't miss him one bit and I'm actually glad that we have managed to come to an arrangement to get him off our books. There are probably at least another half a dozen I would also like to see leave before the new season if possible, so will wait to see what happens, but a positive start!

bennett looked a good signing the type the club should make but it never worked out here. its best he moves on.

you never see a good defender at his height unfortunately he was rubbish the reason Sheridan had him at Newport is simple

A ) Limited funds

B )  was preparing for a low low finish

If we're offering him a better budget hel have better players lined up

Just an FYI, another of our former players, Joss Labadie, will join Mr. Bennett in Wales.

I wonder if Joss will actually focus on his career at this stage? He's a player I believe should be playing higher than this level but his attitude/behaviour holds him back. There will be a fair few teams next season with a recent Notts connection also.

But watch Scott Bennett do well for them again, I don't think he's rubbish - he did well for Exeter but I think it's about being in the right team for him.

I am sorry but Labadie never once looked liked making it at a higher level, unless you mean in the Suarez stakes with bite :D

He was very inconsistent with Notts, which is the reason for his downfall but prior he certainly looked able to play higher and even in certain games with us he looked like a player who could progress further - yet it was his attitude and behaviour which cost him, perhaps even to a degree his work rate.

Perhaps @Elite_pie can offer a view. To me, he offered nothing, never any sign of offering anything and was not a ready made replacement for the loss of Bishop. @notts-joe, I believe Specsavers are open on Sunday :D

sorry Bennett wasn't good I rember the Oxford game at there place he got took to pieces all over the place.

And how holis has got a new deal is beyond belief becuase he's been just as bad if not worse.

For me we need two proper centre backs who won't be soft and do the basics of defending and don't switch off like our lot did last season.

I agree with the 'ready made replacement' comment, but disagree that he didn't have potential nor never played well. Did you go to the Doncaster (last game of the season) where he scored from the free kick? He played very well that day, him and Judge won us that game IMO - and not just because he scored.

Also, I recall how some ranted about us not missing Bishop because we had signed him.

I never agreed with the loss of Bishop, however most said he was passed it for us and was never good enough to play in the Championship but we are going off track.
