Who else are you supporting at Euro 16?

Featured Replies

Obviously pretty much all of us will be supporting England at Euro 2016, possibly with a couple of Irish exceptions. Will any of you be following anyone else in the tournament and why?

I'll be crossing my fingers that Turkey have a good run for the missus, although I'd rather they didn't win it as Erdogan would milk it for all it's worth. I'd like Sweden to do well to keep my work colleagues in a good mood. I have a conflicted relationship with Germany - in a way it's nice when they go far because there's a great atmopshere around the place, but on the other hand they do tend to get arrogant very quickly so it'd be really funny if they fell flat on their faces. Preferably against England.

I'll catch a few of the other home nations games, but I'll only really be supporting England to be honest. Watching international football isn't really my cup of tea anymore, but will be interested to see how the Brits approach their games.

Obviously I want ROI to do well, but the style of football bores me so I won't be watching much. I'll be keeping an eye on Iceland. They are exciting to watch and fear no one.

All of the UK and Ireland of course.

Part of me wants to ditch Wales because of how arrogant Gareth Bale is being over their chances, for me he's vastly overrated in the first place - better than Ronaldo? No, best Real Madrid player? Hardly.

I think I'll be supporting Northern Ireland more than England, obviously I would like all to do well but with this being their first major contest its a bit more special.

Not sure what you mean by this Joe, Northern Ireland have been in 3 world cups, although it is their first Euros.

It's their first major finals for 30 years - they've been out of the picture for almost as long as Wales have. As underdogs they have nothing to lose.

Ah yes, Mexico 86. The first WC I watched. NI were in the same qualifying group as England. England had beaten all before them, averaging almost 3 goals a game. NI had to go to Wembley and get at least a draw if they were to qualify. England did everything but score, Pat Jennings in goal was incredible. Possibly the best goal keeping display ever. NI were beaten by Brazil and Spain and drew with Algeria in Mexico.

I still rate Jennings as the best keeper I've seen, just in front of Schmeichel. Amazing keeper who didn't care how he stopped the ball from going in his net, unlike Shilton who always tried to get his hands behind the ball.

I was a also a massive fan of Norman Whiteside, so always remember the 1982 and 86 World Cups and I'm pretty sure that Big Norm still holds the record as the youngest ever player at a World Cup finals.

Whiteside still holds that record. The youngest player to play in qualifying was 13 years old! I remember there was controversy because he appeared to be 2 years older according to his club at the time.

That's what I meant but I didn't word it correctly.

England obviously, but I don't want the French or Germans to win it.

Same for me but I'm also hoping the Rams players in the Irish sides don't let my team down.
