Chelsea 0-2 Notts County, 2 May 1981

On this day in 1981 Notts County sealed promotion to the top flight after goals from Trevor Christie and Rachid Harkouk at a hostile Stamford Bridge saw them claim a 2-0 win over Chelsea.

With the game having been 36 years ago, there isn't much media around on the interwebnet, but I've dug around and found several audio and video clips of it.

Here's the television report on ITN (as far as I know this is as much as there is in terms of video highlights).

Here are the final 10 or so minutes of radio commentary by Brian Tansley and Terry Bowles on Radio Trent (credit to KorkInNotts for the video).

And here is a link to a short clip of Colin Slater commentating on Harkouk's goal.

Yes, 1981, ancient history that was! We'd just come out of the bronze age!!! :hairy:

Some of us can actually remember 1981 very well and we don't see it (well I don't) as being soooooo long ago...

@Fozzy Ha don't get me started on the passing of time... I'm sure I was 18 just last week, seems like I went to bed in 2006 and somehow woke up in 2017 on the brink of 30! Must have been a hell of a drinking session...

I'll edit it though, will just mention how many years it's been - my apologies!

No offence taken! The only thing that keeps reminding me that I'm not 21 any more is how much my body aches the day after doing anything more strenuous than making a cup of tea!!! :o

@Fozzy I bet when you were 21 you thought "I'm not 18 any more", then when you were 25 you thought "I'm not 21 any more"... I know I did, think everyone did/does! I've reached that stage where I view anyone under the age of 25 as literally a child and am prepared to slap anyone under the age of 25 if they dare to say "I feel old"... bloody youtdem! :P

I'm not sure that mentioning that it was 36 years ago makes it any better... ;)

But thank you for the video, I'd heard all about it but never actually seen the goals from that day!

This is why I love nostalgia, some people say you can't live in the past (Forest anyone???) but there's no reason why you can't pay memory to it.

I believe Uncle Colin told me and @Joe Jones during the PON interview he did with us that he wasn't able to go to this game due to having no budget, he spoke very fondly about Stamford Bridge but I can't help but feel this may have been a blessing in disguise. I'm quite aware that Chelsea used to be quite rough, it still is to some degree but going by the commentary it sounds absolutely mental.

Yet for me it makes me appreciate what our players did more because you could easily forgive them for being nervous or even scared.

Thank god football's come along way since then!
