  1. It's a valid point, at least for me. I imagine their playing budget is quite small, but provided the squad is behind the manager and everyone is tight-knit survival is possible. Cheltenham won't suddenly start winning games by changing the manager, and if they do, well I would say shame on the players because it's not always the managers fault. I still don't think a change here will make a massive difference.
  2. I've read comments from "purest football fans" that claim the goal's boring because there are too many passes. Considering football these days is a lot more fluid, quicker and far more skilful - I find it quite dumbfounding that anyone could consider this excellent passing phrase dull. You have to appreciate the control, build-up and way that the passing breaks down the opposition. Some of those quicker passes could easily go wrong, yet each player seems to be on the same wavelength and for every player to get a touch. It's incredible! I remember when Notts did a similar thing, but I don't recall us getting every player on the ball. It had the same effect, such a stylish and well-worked team goal.
  3. He's been plagued with injuries throughout his career, it's the real reason he was held back at Derby County - whilst his involvement in the drink-driving saga was very stupid. Richard Keogh, who was the Rams captain, shouldn't have allowed Tom Lawrence or Mason Bennett to enter the car either. All three of them should have known better! Derby were always going to release Bennett due to his injuries, what once were a very promising career has been derailed with injuries and off the field issues. At 27-years-old, he still has a chance and if he can continue to do well for Burton his career might do the U-Turn it should have done when he was 24. Derby rejected bids for him when he was younger, with Manchester United among the interested parties to sign him. His goal for us was very well taken, I remember when he got injured and the looming feeling that it would be over for him and us.
  4. @Fan of Big Tone Nobody can right now, we want to add more quizzes before we allow them to be completed. 👍🏻
  5. Liam Noble.... How he went from being one of the most promising players at our club, to being unreliable and constantly being sent off - I don't know. His re-signing was very uninspiring and due to JJ being sent images of Noble training at Basford's facilities. Kevin Nolan rebranded PON "Arsenal FanTV" in his pre-match interview. Kev, let's take it easy on the beers. I had zero to do with this and the images played no part in Noble's lacklustre return, unfortunately, Liam Noble had other issues which has seen his career flat line.
  6. From what I have seen of Forest Green Rovers, they have been incredibly poor and are clearly still being effected by their chairman Dale Vince's decisions. The good thing for us, is that their morale is extremely low and if we can get off to a good start, they should only drop their heads further. Even if this game were away from home, I would feel confident as FGR could potentially be the worst team we have faced. Worse than Doncaster Rovers and Salford City combined. Our midfield will always be the key in getting a front foot on the game. Holding the ball and making space, especially if we can make the FGR players chase the game should lead to chances. I am hoping we can achieve this without going all the way back to Aidan Stone, which I do understand why we do it - yet for the most part it just breaks our attacks, allowing the opposition to have a breather. When Stone resorts to kicking the ball long, usually it's to one player [David McGoldrick] and he's usually heavily marked. I think we should exploit the centre of the park, whilst allowing the wider channels to draw their players out and in turn open the space in their penalty box. It should be a good game; hopefully, they can rise to the challenge themselves and make a game of it.
  7. Dan Crowley has an elite pedigree about him, you can see how Arsenal has influenced his approach to playing football and that suites us well. We play in such a way, where his attributes come into their own. He's such a skilful and articulated player that moves wisely and doesn't waste his energy. One thing I like, is when he doesn't drop back, he will find space staying up, where he knows he can do the 'Matt Palmer' turn as a way to protect the ball until someone is there to support him. You can see how he's improving by the game, whilst the feeling of being settled at a club can massively help a player play their best. Ruben is a totally different player, but Dan is world's apart in terms of ability. Unfortunately, whilst Ruben did improve with us, he'll reach a limit soon enough. whereas Dan still has much more to give despite only being two years apart from each others age.
  8. Luke Williams is by far my favourite manager to listen to for some time; it's never the same old thing. The worst being Jamie Fullerton who could have put me in a comma, alongside Kevin Nolan in recent years, Erm, like. Same old, same old... Ricardo Moniz was also there, along with Shaun Derry and Martin Allen.

    FA Cup

I am pleased for Boston, Chester I don't really care about, although I wish our two ex players well.
  10. I've posted about this, as did JJ many years ago, but we kept getting comments from other clubs fans - so, Joe decided it wasn't worth doing because it's extremely difficult to validate. I know Stoke City fans believe they were the first, along with Preston. We'll take it though, as I do recall reading a paper clipping in my grandfather's scrap book about Notts being the first to pay for a player and how it was not sportsmanlike behaviour.
  11. The passing at times, especially in the first half, was class. Extremely fast and capable of breaking through the defence. Both goals were excellently taken. 100% Macaulay Langstaff will score on Saturday against FGR, watch.
  12. I need to steal William's copy and let Ava read it, it's a very good book.
  13. I'm not familiar with Ed Davey either, though I have heard his name. My senior school headmaster was called Godferry Davey. A quick Google search would suggest they are of no relation. That's a lucky thing, he tried to save my school but was utterly hopeless.
  14. I wished for once, the UK would make a real effort to clean up our lakes, countryside, rivers etc. Learn to spend money investing in infrastructure, instead of big pally contracts to aid those who donate to political parties. The UK should be great, but we are not. More effort could go into creating jobs, instead of bailing out the rich who are going bankrupt just to save their own dough. The environment, cost of living and making the UK a great place to live needs to happen sooner rather than later. It's ironic how those who come over here for the benefits quickly call the UK, despite being put up in hotels, having money to buy food, clothes etc. Yet they just complain because they feel things should be handed to them. The UK seems to have its priorities misplaced.
  15. It's not very nice, the Irish league finds it funny that players contracts are expiring! "Lol expiring contracts". Yes, I know it's actually an I, but when you use a capital I it looks more like what I am getting at.
  16. I don't get it, but this is very much something which I would do - think were funny and very few would get it.
  17. I assumed it would have been a Romanian beer, as it would explain the garlic. Person 1: Have you tried that new retro bar up the hill? Person 2: No, I thought that was a boarding house or hotel? Person 1: A new property developer has turned it into a nice new bar. Person 2: Shall we go sometime? It sounds interesting. Next @Fan of Big Tone, will say he knows black pudding with garlic in it. Do you remember this book, @super_ram?
  18. Sam Graham really needs to find a club in the lower tiers that will play him and keep him for a few years, he's being wasted by being sent out on these short term loans. They do nothing for him.
  19. Honestly, I don't remember him or much about any individual at Salford. When they couldn't play football, they tried to bring on every tall player they had, which seemed very non-league. I'll try to see if there are any extended highlights as I keep meaning to join in with my own recommendations. I was surprised by how poor Salford were though.
  20. I also went to Salford, along with @Magic magpie, @super_pie and @Callum234. Considering how long Salford City has been owned by the former United players, I couldn't believe how non-league their ground was. It was just terrible. Nuneaton and several other clubs have such a nicer stadium. The flooring was one of the worst things about the ground; it was just a metal shed. Yet I wondered what would happen if something bad would happen, and there is only one area to each part where you can walk freely without meeting a bar that would force you to bend under to get out of the stand. Seriously, it seemed a poor design. I hope to god no fans to the size of ours that have the misfortune to need to exit quickly without being crushed. Saturday, I rested. Sunday, I went to Kate's Nanna's 90th birthday. Unfortunately, one of her friends had a heart attack and died before making it to her party. She wasn't aware, but knew she had gone to the hospital. I couldn't help but feel it was very obvious, as I am sure someone would have said they were fine otherwise without hiding it. It made the occasion feel a bit saddening for her. It was nice to see her with all the great grandchildren mind.
  21. Hello, welcome to the Pride of Nottingham @Morten Johansen. I hope you enjoy being a part of our Notts County community. I am super interested to learn about your background.
  22. I hope everyone will give, @Ryan Raynor a big warm welcome. I am pleased and delighted to say he is our very first subscriber! Not only was he all in when I mentioned the scheme to help fund PON, but he's been a massive supporter of the prints I do - easily owning the largest collection of PON prints! Thank you, matey and welcome to the community!
  23. It's amazing how quickly managers are falling victim to being sacked, it's partly beyond a joke and concerning to see clubs dismiss them with little time. Some does make sense, this might be one of them as Oldham have been shocking and should be doing better. I still believe a manager should be given more time.
  24. Until he decides to stand by his retirement, there will always be a club that will come in for him - especially in the Championship. He's a legend of the game! Yet, I do agree, he needs to enjoy his retirement. I know his wife has commented that she wanted him to spend more time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Sky Sports did an interview with him, where he said three things matter the most to him: football, family and golf. He also joked about not wanting to become an old codger.
  25. @Piethagoram I might have a look at managers who have been at the club for two or more years, reflecting on the budget. Naturally, if I did, I would give credit to the FLW for the idea (plus yourself). It's a very in depth and interesting article. Personally, I wished Kevin Nolan and Ian Burchnall weren't in there but considering they both had a decent season each it does make sense. The awful distortion and excessive stretching of certain images are a bugbear of mine. However, the subpar treatment of Jimmy Sirrel is nothing short of sacrilegious to me. Something so simple, is very annoying to see. Before, anyone thinks I am being fussy. Many places do this, including NEP and many newspapers. I believe they are worse, since they are supposed professionals, but it does annoy me when they can't leave the image size - yet choose to stretch and alter the ratio in such an ugly way.
