  1. Consistency is the key in this league. Notts have put together a couple of excellent performances. The only reason it's 4 points instead of 6 is poor defending from crosses/set pieces. That needs to be worked on. All in all, a fantastic result.
  2. Grimsby are a decent side. They had an excellent 3-2 home win against Cheltenham. They also beat Bradford on penalties in the EFL Cup after a 1-1 draw. Their only away game was a 1-0 loss at Fleetwood. Notts ticked a lot of boxes against Fleetwood and on another day would have scored 4 or 5. A repeat of that performance and most teams will have a very difficult time against us. I expect Notts to take the game to Grimsby and come away with a win. 3-1 I reckon.
  3. On a side note, I thought Alex Bass was excellent yesterday. His shot stopping is top notch. He could do nothing about the goals. An excellent start to his Notts County career.
  4. I'm not sure how Notts didn't win that game, well I actually do when I think about it, an inability to defend set pieces, where have we heard that before...... There were plenty of positives to be fair. Play like that against Grimsby and it will be 3 points in the bag. Fleetwood are dogged. They stuck in there and defended brilliantly. David Harrington in goal is a Cork man like myself. His Dad was a great goalie for Cork City.
  5. Fleetwood are top 10 candidates IMO. They were decent against Grimsby. They showed character against West Brom. They went a goal down but kept plugging away and got their reward. Notts were solid for 135 mins and then reverted to the Notts of last season in the second half against Shrewsbury. There will be changes against Fleetwood. I expect a close game. Notts to win 2-1.
  6. Notts were amazing in the first half. Shrewsbury improved in the 2nd half but they didn't have to work hard for their goals. There was little evidence of game management by Notts. I felt Notts needed to mix it up a bit to keep Shrewsbury guessing.
  7. A point away from home is never a bad result. The defence looked solid. Any team would miss Langstaff, but Notts would have won yesterday if he was still at the club. A poacher could be the difference between automatic promotion and the playoffs. A 15 goal striker will make all the difference because we won't concede as many goals as last season.
  8. An interesting question and the more you think about it, the more questions you have. I think the buck stops with SM. It's his job to pick the right personnel to fit into the system. The system comes from the top down though. So is SM allowed to change systems or style of play? Hmmmmm. Oh man, I'm not going that rabbit hole, it's bed time........
  9. Spain are the best team in Europe and proved it tonight. Palmer's goal was brilliant but Spain's winner was sublime. Football as it should be played. The future is bright for England, a more adventurous manager is probably required to take them to the next level.
  10. It would be a real risk to start the season with that strike force. We should concede less but given the style of play, it probably won't be as many as people think. To give SM a fighting chance, another striker is required, one who'll score on a regular basis. Otherwise I can see a difficult season ahead and SM under pressure from day one.
  11. 1. That rain was biblical. I half expected Noah's Ark to float past based on Dan Westwell's videos. 2. Alfreton have a treasure trove of match programmes and they are just dumped in a room. That makes me depressed. They need to sort them and display them properly. Thanks again to Dan for the photos. 3. No friendly is meaningless but the real tests are ahead of us. We need a replacement for ML. We have gone from real promotion contenders to borderline promotion contenders. A 15 goal a season striker should see us back in the real contenders for promotion category.
  12. ML packs his bags and heads for East London. A massive loss. With all due respect to our current striking options, none of them are going to get near 28 goals. Reinforcements are required but a diamond like ML is going to be difficult to find.
  13. England vs Slovakia was one of the worst games in Euro 24. 120 mins. 5 shots on target. That's 5 between the 2 teams. England's tactics are mind boggling. England's squad is on a par with Spain but Spain play with freedom. England play like a team who are terrified of losing. England should make the final but a Spain or a France or even a Germany will beat them.
  14. The signings of Bass and Tsaroulla have made us one of the favourites for promotion. The minimum expectation with this squad is the playoffs. And I suspect there's more to come.
  15. I think the squad is coming together quite nicely. Add a decent keeper and we'll be in a strong position. The jury is still out on SM. He has all the pieces now, he has no excuses.
  16. Just some things to consider: - Shelbourne are challenging for the title. They don't need to sell. They'll be strengthening in the Summer. - Derry are also challenging for the title. They will be playing in Europe. - St. Pats just sacked their manager. They will be playing in Europe. They are under performing this season. They could be persuaded to part with some of their squad.
  17. MK Dons vs Crawley Town Crewe vs Doncaster On paper, MK Dons would be clear favourites but this is football. Doncaster have gone from relegation contenders to the playoffs after an incredible run of form. Crewe and Crawley are balanced sides and could easily win promotion. My prediction is Doncaster to beat MK Dons in the final.
  18. One word. Woeful. Another mistake leading to a goal. Also not scoring against the bottom side in the league. We lost 3 out of 4 to the relegated sides. This Summer is massive. We have to get the recruitment right.
  19. FGR's relegation is a big set back for their owner's plans. Their new wooden stadium is being constructed with league football in mind. You'd wonder what their budget will be in the NL. With the right signings, they should push for promotion. The NL is wide open next season. It feels like the season has flown by. It certainly hasn't been boring. Goals flying in all over the place. A defence that would give you high blood pressure. I'm looking forward to a trip to Carlisle next season. The castle, the cathedral and the football. Heaven......oh yeah, I think we'll win tomorrow......
  20. We know the style of football is not going to change so the right CBs are essential. I'll admit I'm worried about the future. Recruitment has to be spot on in the Summer. If we do lose Langstaff, then that money needs to go towards the best CB that money can buy.
  21. I think he'll go to Sunderland. He reminds me of Jamie Vardy in his prime. I think he'll play in the Premiership in the future, that's how highly I rate him. He's too good for League Two.
  22. A win is a win. I'd be shocked if Langstaff was here next season. He's an incredible finisher. Some team are going to make a move for him.
  23. The 4 from the EPL were opposed to this but were completely ignored by the FA and PL representatives. It seems that not all PL teams were even aware this was on the table. It's the elite clubs once again who are dictating FA policy. Replays up to the 3rd round should be permitted. No question. After that the FA have to make a convincing case as to why they aren't in favour of replays. They haven't as of yet.
  24. Obviously I want Notts to win but if Colchester win, at least it relegates Sutton. That's a bonus in my book. The 2 least likeable sides in the division going down? I'd be OK with that. OK, FGR aren't too bad but their owner is a bit of a tool.....
  25. The subs made a big difference but the damage was done in the first half. You can't concede 85 goals and expect to challenge for promotion. Stockport have conceded 44. Looks like Stockport are enjoying their night. Well deserved.
