I'm sure that the Notts recruiters would have done their usual football radar checks on these trialists before inviting them to accompany the squad to Germany. I think that they are just trying to find out if the trialists are better than who they already have including the academy players Notts have taken on tour. Notts still have plenty of time before the summer transfer window closes on the 1st September. So Notts still have plenty of time to bring someone in. I'm pleased that Martin is giving Riley Reynolds a good opportunity to show what he can do. If he's good enough, why buy another midfielder. I've always wanted Notts to try Jodi in the playmaker role in midfield. I think he could also play a similar role to what Didzy played last season.

Chelsea thoroughly deserved the win against PSG. The French tournament favourites were blown away in the first half by a Chelsea side that employed the perfect tactic by going direct to get behind PSG's left hand side. PSG just couldn't deal with it. PSG were absolutely shell shocked at the end of the first half, but to their credit they came out in the second half & tried to make a game of it, however Chelsea were resolute in defence, & their goalkeeper played a blinder with some vital saves. As the second half wore on the PSG players became frustrated & commited petty fouls. The ugly scenes at the end of the match took away from what was a famous Chelsea victory & a triumph for the English Premier League. Although I'm pleased that an English team won, I'm still not convinced that a tournament such as this is in the best interests of domestic league football. The tournament is too long & involves too many teams. The Chelsea & PSG players have to recover now for the start of the new season. I wouldn't be surprised if their form suffered at the beginning of their league campaigns. It will be interesting to see if that is the case.

@Ash I agree about Paterson having the courage to change formation. Four at the back needs to be a strong option for Martin. We have plenty of defenders to give plenty of options at the back.

Wasn't he great when he was at Notts for those four appearances? I'm sure he would have made a big difference if we could have bought him. I contributed to the fund myself. It was a pity that we couldn't meet the asking price. I think he could have saved us from relegation that season. It's sad that he's no longer with us. Football misses him.

The third & final match of Notts County's Pre Season German tour sees them take on 4th tier club Stuttgarter Kickers on Tuesday 15th July at 6 pm. BST Head Coach Martin Paterson will be looking to finish the tour with a good performance & a positive result to lift the spirit of the players & the fans after being defeated in their previous two friendly games. I think Martin will want to see a composed & workmanlike performance from the lads this time. The lads will need to show plenty of energy & a steely determination to come out on top. Martin has been talking the talk, now it's time for his team to convert that positive talk into positive action on the field of play. I hope to see Jodi Jones get some time on the pitch & for Martin to begin to put together the team that he believes could be his strongest team available.

For me, a good club captain is a person who can command respect from his teammates, He will be a person who can inspire, motivate & unite his team & have an assertive personality. This person should have strong leadership skills, should have a positive attitude & be able to make good decisions under pressure. This person should have a good work ethic, excellent organisational skills & should be a good role model both on & off the field of play This person doesn't have to be necessarily the best player in the side but he needs to be someone who has been at the club for a few seasons at least & knows the club inside out. I do like Matt Palmer as a player & he does have many of the attributes I have described, however I don't think he is assertive enough as a football Captain. I also think his form has suffered to this he took on the role. I think Martin should choose his own Club Captain. I agree with some members that Matty Platt or Jacob Bedeau would be a good choice. For me the best candidate for Club Captain left the Club, David McGoldrick, who had the most of, if not all the attributes I mentioned. As Club Captain he would have got a pay rise anyway, so I will never fathom why both parties couldn't have come to an agreement.
