  1. Finally the Notts Faithful have something to Cheer about. Despite the 4-1 Victory though it was against a very poor Shrewsbury side. Realistically last night's Win as only Papered over the Cracks Bromley will be much Stiffer Competition. As @Robbie said there were times Notts looked disjointed and a Good Team would take advantage of those situations, and Notts could find themselves with all manner of problems. Maybe it's time for MP to give the Young Keeper a Run in the side, because the way Roos is playing it can't Inspire the Defenders in Front of him. And just because A.J. is set to Return, don't expect him to get back straight back into his scoring groove, he'll need time to adapt to the tweaked settings of the Notts Model. It wouldn't surprise me, if Jatta was on the Bench with MP bringing him on in the second half. Lets also hope A.J's Head is also in the Game and his Agent's not continuing whispering in his ear, telling him how better it would be if he left the Lane. Last night's Victory should have instilled some Confidence in the Team. But One Swallow Does Not A Summer Make.
  2. @McPie I think one of the Main Reason's why we see more Foreign Coaches in the Premier League is the Fact that there are Now more Foreign Owners of Premier Clubs and those Owners Prefer both Foreign Coaches and Foreign Players. It seems to me that these Owners are Strangling English Talent in their Academy's, preferring to buy a mediocre Foreign player instead of Encouraging English Talent, to come through their Academy and become Star Players in their First team. And if an Academy player starts to show Star quality then they are Sold, instead of appearing for the First Team where he first began to Show his Talent. Look at Manchester United's class of 92, If Alex Ferguson Had Not kept those Players would the Red Devils have been as Dominant and would they have won as Many Trophies as they did? It seems Nowadays if an English Player wants to get on, they need to Go and Play Abroad. A Majority of Clubs want to play Pep Ball, the trouble is they can't and instead of Finding their own style they Keep On playing the Pep way, and suffering because of it. What they fail to see is the Bigger Picture, Pep has Never had to Struggle in his Coaching Role Every team he's Coached have had a Massive Player Budget and Very Little Opposition to play against. But he must be a Great Coach because of all the Trophies he's Won and yet last season when City had all those Players injured, he Struggled to Motivate the other Squad Members, and it remained that way, until his Star Players Returned from injury. This Maybe hard for Notts Fans to Swallow but, look what Nuno did across the Trent, Forest won a Large percentage of their Games with less than 30% possession during a Match. Why ? Because the Red Dogs went against the Norm and other Premier League Teams couldn't cope. Admittedly they Ran Out of Steam in the Last Few Games of the Season, but was this because other Teams had Managed to work out Forest's approach or had Nuno ran out of Fresh Ideas? From a Notts point of View , under Luke Williams the Club found a Winning Formula and once he had left His Replacement Stuart Maynard was expected to carry on that Strategy, while he attempted to do so, he lacked the Experience and Man Management Skills of Williams. And the Magpies finished a Lowly 14th. However the following Season Maynard and his Coaching team, started to get to Grips with Notts Model, but once that Coaching Team split up, with the Departure of the Saunders Brothers, the Notts owners failed to Replace them and by promoting Alves who was also vastly Non experienced in the Assistant Coaching Role the Pressure became to much for Maynard to handle and he just Crumbled and Lost his way and that Cost Him His Job. The Magpies need a Coach who can Motivate his Players a Coach who can Lead from the Front, a Coach who can mix things up during a Game and Change Tactics when the Need's Arise. I Personally think Martin Paterson can't do that. But I'm Always Happy To Be Proven Wrong.
  3. It seems to me that the (Un) social Media has a lot to answer for. Going back before the birth of these Platforms, if Notts Lost a Match or a Player had a Bad Game, Fans would go down to the Pub Rant and Rave about how Bad the Magpies played or how a Certain player Performed. After a few Pints Fans would Go Home and have time to Reflect fully on the teams/Players performance and all the Negatives would be Forgotten and Fans would be Ready and waiting for the Following Saturday. However with the Rise of Platforms Like X and Facebook, being just a Click Away, Fans can instantly Vent their Anger at the Team or a Certain Player, without thinking about the Game and giving their emotions time to settle down and for them to think and Give a more Balanced View. Lets take the Matty Palmer point. Fans were asked who was their Notts Man Of The Match. And after some deliberation and Thought Matty was Chosen. However someone who was obviously Riled Up and Annoyed with the Magpies Loss Vented his Anger at the PON Members Vote. If he had taken the time to think about Matty's performance instead of Instantly reacting to the Result, he may have understood the Reason for Matty's Win. If on the other hand the Poster was a Barrow Fan, then obviously he didn't read the Post Correctly, viewing only what he thought he had read and Not what actually the Vote was about the NOTTS Man Of The Match.
  4. I Saw my 80 year old neighbour Stan the other day. He seemed quite Upset. What's Up Stan I asked. He replied I went to an Antique Center last week, And they Wouldn't Let Me Out.
  5. As I've Stated @piedestrian these are only Rumours, to be taken with a Pinch of Salt and Yet these Rumours and others in the same vein are going around the Lane, and there's No Smoke with out Fire. If the Brothers do Sack the Head Coach, who do they Replace Him with? Somebody else with a Poor Winning Record? One thing about Patterson is (like Maynard before him) he has No Man Management skills. Reading Comments from Notts Fans there seems to be a Large Part of the Fan Base wanting Luke Williams to be Reappointed. Like LW or Not, he knows the Club and during his time at the Lane, he built up a Excellent Relationship with the Fans and was Held in Great Regard by his Players. He was able to take Poor Players and turn them into Average Players, Average Players into Great Players and Great Players into Star Players, you only have to look at Players who served under him during his National League stint here at the Lane, most had a remarkable Season, which they failed to repeat once he had left. Williams leaving could have been better and that may have stuck in some Fans Throats, but Don't Forget the Great Jimmy Sirral left Notts then came back. How many Fans would have been against his Return if Social Media had been around Back Then? I think Williams return would only benefit the Club. Another Rumour I've heard is that Martin Patterson, is on a Rolling Contract which the Club can cancel at anytime. Hence is this why he stated judge me after 10 games? So does that mean if he doesn't have the Necessary Points on the Board, he'll be Removed?
  6. @themightymagpies , and if past Communications from the Club to the Fans is anything to go by, You Won't.
  7. I think Paterson is Pretty Safe despite his Record. Because he's Cheap keeps his Mouth Shut and does as he's Told. Several other Coaches were approached before him and turned down the Club, because they weren't Prepared to Coach the Squad under "The Model" Notts proposed. Patterson's only job is to Coach Players and the Director of Football picks the Team and Runs the Football side of things according to Rumours. Looking at the Results it seems the Rumours may have some substance to them. The D.O.F can Talk the Talk, but can't Walk the Walk.
  8. I'm Not Blaming Maynard For Not Taking Jatta Off Simply Stating His Lack Of Experience. Being Moaned At And Criticized By The Fans Is Part Of The Job. . But What I'm Trying To Get Across Is The Fact Data Can't Predict, Human Emotions Or Reactions, The Jatta Sending Off Was Just An Example Of This.
  9. Fear Not Death, For The Hour Of Your Doom Is Sealed, And None, May Escape It. Viking Saying. It Doesn't Matter What You Do In This Life, Once Your Time Is Up Your Time Is Up.
  10. Jatta was getting Riled up before his Red Card and an Experienced Coach would have seen this, and would have brought Jatta off. Much like Coaches do when one of their players gets a Yellow card, they are substituted to stop his team going down to 10 Men. And Maynard could have Explained his decision in his Post Match Interview,, and asked his own question, wouldn't it be better to have A.J available for the Second Leg? But he had No help from his second in Command, had the Saunders Brothers still been with him, one of them could have warned Maynard about the Possibility of A.J's reaction.
  11. I saw Stan my 80 years old Neighbour yesterday. He had a Big Smile on his Face Morning Stan I said You look happy Yep he replied, I've just finished paying off my Student Debt.
  12. The Post Match Interview in the Didzy Watch Topic (Thanks for the Upload @Robbie ), made for Interesting Viewing and Listening. And what caught my attention was hid Quote Age is just a number Football needs to be seen with the Naked Eye, not just on Lap Tops based on Stats and Data. Very True. It's a Simple Game. Was Didzy stating that could be a problem at Notts? The Brother Stubbornly relying on the Data side of things? And Not watching a player's performance? Data has One Fatal Flaw, the Human Factor. Computers can't Calculate the Human side of things, a Players Emotions. Take Jatta for instance. Before the January Transfer window the Guy was on Fire. Then the Interest from other Clubs Began, and Big Money was mentioned, and it appears his Agent began whispering in his ear about how things could be if he Left the Lane. Things like that can play on a Players mind. Doubts can Kick in and Fester, if Goals dry up and form drops (like what happened), other Emotions Surface. The Promise of a Big Move and interest from other Clubs start to Dwindle can also leave a Mark on a Player. No Data can Predict that. Was the Red Card against Wimbledon also a Result of his Emotions? Normally would have A.J. just walked away from the situation, but he was so Hyped Up and things got on top of him, which made him respond the way he did? Result a Red Card. No A.J. for the Second Leg and Notts get Knocked Out. Would Stats or Data predicted that? NO!! A Good Head Coach would have seen there was a possibility of A.J's response and would have Subbed him off before his Red Card Incident. Thus Giving Notts a Better Chance in the Return Leg. As Didzy said, Football needs to be seen with the Naked Eye, Not just on a Laptop. Stats and Data have their place in the Game Today, But Are Not The Be All And End All. The Human factor plays a Big Part, Which Is More Important In My Opinion.
  13. @liampie, I'm Fairly Certain that David Moyes knows he has a Talent on his hands, and being from the Old School of Managers, will know how to look after Jack and get the Best Out of Him. Moyes is a No Nonsense kind of Coach, so he'll make sure Jack concentrates on his Football and Not partying, but I think in that Regard Jack has (hopefully) Grown up and put all that behind him. He'll know this is a Chance for him, to Force his way back into the England reckoning, and erase the Hurt he felt after being left out of the England Euro's Squad.
  14. I Do enjoy writing about Other Subjects has I think it brings a different perspective and hopefully Interest to the Site. And I also learn things.. @Robbie for instance I didn't know about the Ace Of Spades also having some Positive vibes. Going through my collections of Books (remember them?) the Ace Of Spades always seems to have Negative stories associated to it. And I Certainly didn't know about Football Mourning Cards, so Thanks for that @DangerousSausage @Chris I remember my Eldest Son used to have a blonde Curl in his hair when he was a little Un. His Mum cut it off and Still keeps it Safe. Some Parents also keep their Child's first tooth, Not sure if the Missus did that, but I'm sure my Sister did when her First Kid lost their first tooth. Another thing New Parents do is keep a News Paper from the Day they were Born. My Youngest Son was Born the day after the Bocastle flooding, you may not remember that, because it was 21 years ago tomorrow. All the National Papers carried the story the following Day the Day He was Born. We also have a copy of the Nottingham Evening Post from the Day of His Birth. There we've added a Little Bit of Light heartedness, to my Thread of Morbid (but hopefully Informative and Entertaining) story of the Ace Of Spades.
  15. @Chris .The Victorians were a Pretty Morbid Lot and seemed to have a Fascination with Death. It's a well known fact that Queen Victoria wore Widows Tweeds for the Rest of her Life, after the Death of her husband the Prince Consort, Prince Albert. She also commanded her Lady's in waiting to lay out a Clean Shirt and Albert Shaving equipment as if he was still alive. Death Jewelry was also a Big Thing in the Victorian Era, this was usually in the form of a Brooch or Pendant with a Lock of the Deceased Hair was placed.
  16. @DangerousSausage . Perhaps these should be brought back. There will be a Few Clubs who could paper their Dressing Room Walls with them.
  17. To Make Martin Paterson's Job even harder I think there is a lot of Interference from others behind the Scenes i.e. the Technical Board. Luke Williams found a Winning Formula to get the Magpies back into the EFL and ever since the Powers that be have Stuck Stubbornly to that System. As I've said before Notts have had a Reliable Strike Force to get the Magpies out of Sticky Situations in the Past, the attitude was you score 2 goals we'll score 3 goals, you score 3 goals we'll score 4 goals, the Problem is this season Notts don't have that Luxury. To make matters worse in the past two season's the Owners or Board members have Sold Top Players, who have Not Been Replaced, and has it's been Stated there are to many New players at the Lane and by the time they begin to Gel Notts Could Find Themselves in a Very Deep Hole, and who will pay for this ? Martin Patterson will probably lose his job but what will happen to his Replacement? He will be hired on the condition he sticks to the Model, which Doesn't Work. The Technical Board and the D.O.F need to leave the Head Coach to Run the Team his way and let him Win or Fail on his own Merits. Possession doesn't Win Football Matches, Goals Do. And has long has Notts Keep Losing, No matter which half they play well in, the Fans are soon going to lose Interest and the Home Crowds of 10,000 -11,000 fans at Matches will soon become a Thing Of The Past.
  18. It is said there are only two certain things in Life Death and Taxes. I'll put Taxes to one side (for the moment) and Concentrate on Death. Oh I am a Happy Chap. Not Death it's self but the Card of Death the Ace Of Spades and how it came about to be called the Card Of Death. In the 1700's during the Regin of then Queen Anne, there was a Stamp duty or tax (there's that word again) was on playing cards. There was an official insignia placed on on the Ace of Spades. People deemed this Tax unfair which Resulted in the Insignia being counterfeited showing the Tax had been paid. If however if a person was caught Counterfeiting the official mark that person faced drastic penalties including Execution. Hence one reason why the Card became associated with Death. During the Medieval Period, Blacksmiths would mark weapons, such has Axes Spears and Swords with the Ace of Spades and the shape of the Ace was also shaped like a shovel, which of course was used to Dig Graves, further association with Death, and the reason a shovel is also called a Spade. Coming more up to date during the Vietnam War American Troops would place the Ace Of Spades Card on the Dead Bodies of Viet Cong Soldiers, or spread them around Vietnamese Villages , as the Cards were thought to symbolize Death and Misfortune in Vietnamese Culture, thus tying the Ace Of Spades to Mortality. The Ace Of Spades is the Highest Valued Card In A Pack. I associate the Card with the Rock Group Motor Head , listening to Lemmy Belt Out the Song Ace Of Spades, with his harsh Rasping Vocals and Thundering Bass Guitar. You just can't beat Head Banging or Grebo War Dancing, to this Iconic Song.
  19. @Piethagoram you're right about Jodi. He's more Dangerous playing outside on the left, then either cutting inside for a shot, or putting the Ball in Dangerous positions in the Box. Once Fit I think Will Jarvis, could perhaps take on the number 10 role.
  20. @Scotty . I Don't Think Notts have a Plan B, and that's been obvious since Notts have returned to the EFL. However in past seasons the Magpies have had a Decent Strike Force, which have gotten Notts out of many a Sticky Situation. This Time Around Notts have No Credible Strike force and Teams have already started to work out the Notts system, because the Magpies still play Tippy Tappy Football, that's why the Owners should have appointed a Head Coach with Vast EFL Experience on his C.V. and left him to Run the Team his way, without Interference from the Director Of Football or any other members of the Notts Higher Ups.
  21. So Jack Grealish has finally put Pen to Paper and Everton have secured his services for the 2025/2026 season. Now it's time for Jack to prove he still has what it takes to guide the Toffees up the Premier League Table and force his way back into the England Squad. Will he Do It? I believe that he will, now he's left the Toxic Clutches of Pep a Coach who enjoys Destroying Players Careers. Now hopefully under David Moyes Coaching we will see the return of the True Jack Grealish, who will be Given the Freedom to Play in his Best Position and become a Leading Light for Everton as he was with his boyhood club, Aston Villa. I still have Great Memories of Jack when he played in the Black & White Stripes of Notts.
  22. Three Matches Down, Seven To Go!! Notts can point to the Fact they Topped most of the Match Stats, unfortunately Stats Don't Win Matches Goals Do. And at the Final Whistle Wigan had one more than Notts, and that's all that counts, and all That Matters. I Just Hope the Technical Board are Working on bringing in a Striker (though where they're going to Get One Is Anyone's Guess) Even with Jatta back it May take him several matches, to settle back into the Goal Scoring Groove, he began last Season with. Despite an Improved Second Half Performance the Magpies still ended up Losing, and this will be a Further Set Back To The Teams Moral. Now we will see how MP and the Technical board Lift the Deflated Notts Squad.
  23. Hey @John B Welcome to PON . Are you the Guy the Beach Boys named their Sloop after? Then went to America to go Surfin' U.S.A with Barbara-Ann and got some Good Vibrations? Just Wondering.
  24. I was talking to my 80 year old neighbour Stan. He told me he was going to get his First Tattoo. Really I said What you gonna get? He replied he wasn't sure. Barbwire, A Heart with a Dagger through it, His Home Address.
  25. In My Honest Opinion @Robbie I think a Bad Thing, because how long will it be before the Premier League Latch on to it? Once money starts rolling in from the U.S.A How long before the Saudi's Start throwing Money around to entice Clubs from the Top European Leagues to play in their Country? As for the Fans, their Opinion Doesn't Matter, Because Money Talks. How Long before we see Liverpool vs Everton, Manchester City vs Manchester United or Arsenal vs Spurs, or any other Top Premier League fixtures being played Overseas? Personally I think by 2030, at the Latest.
