  1. Hey @Robbie , How about this for the future you're sitting in your seat at the Lane in the KOP, Derek Pavis or Hayden Green Stands, and a couple of young kids come and sit next too you. The Teams come out and you a give a Big Sigh, Are You Alright Mister ? Asks one of the Kids. Yes Thankyou Young man, You Reply. You know I Remember The Day, When All Footballers Were Human. The Kid Laughs and turns to his mate and Whispers This Silly Old Sod, Reckons Humans Used To Play Football.
  2. @Chris , Fair points, but I think if there were No Humans on Earth it would just revert back to the Natural Way Of Things Survival Of The Fittest .And animals do communicate and have feelings. Elephants Morn their Dead as do Magpies. Whales and Dolphins have their own languages, animals who hunt in packs Wolves Hunting Dogs etc also communicate through Howls Barks and Yips. Looking Deeper into things there seems to be even more reasons the World would be better off, Without The Human Race.
  3. With the Advancement of A.I. and Robotics, a Question to ask could Humans Live forever.? At the moment Robotic human limbs have been developed for people who have lost limbs in an accident or are born without certain limbs. Will there ever be a time in the Real World when a Person's Brain could be installed into a Android Replica of that person, with that persons memories still intact? ? The Brain would be human, but their body would be made up of Robotic parts, therefore making it possible for them to live forever. Well probably not forever as the Human Brain being organic would end up decaying and dying, but if an Android body can be built why not components to keep their brain functioning? If things such as these become possible the Strain on the World's Resources would become unimaginable, but if Human technology advances to where they can colonize other World's perhaps the idea of living forever might become a possibility?
  4. @Robbie You're Not Wrong animal life would Prosper and the Earth would be as you say a totally different place, and a better place for that matter. I do wonder as time moved on and Species began to evolve, would any tread the Path we Humans have? There are many Myths about Lizard People , Dolphins have large brains could Dolphins evolve into a land Species and with the size of their brain see them take over the Dominant Species Title, Which Humans Now Hold? Or as it's been Suggested will A.I. Human Androids and Robots take over the Earth and Destroy the Human Race? Much like In The Terminator Films. The way things are going the Human Race maybe sealing their own Doom, by creating better and better A.I. Robots and Androids.
  5. Following on from my question of yesterday, asking would the World Be Better Off Without The Human Race? Here's another one for you . With all the advancements in Technology , Do You Think Humans Will Ever Colonize Another Planet? The Moon would probably be the first place, but could we Humans Go Further, beyond even our own Universe? Will we ever be able to build Starships, could we turn Star Trek from Sci Fi into reality?
  6. Thanks for your in put @The Anti-Clough . I also asked this same question on another platform I'm on. And one answer I got quite a few times was There won't be any Humans in a 1,000 years anyway. Interesting Stuff.
  7. @Robbie This is a Question I'd like to ask somebody like Sir David Attenborough or Steve Bagshall one of those guys. Just out of Interest if there were No Humans on Planet Earth, who do you think would become the New Dominant Species? Would it be the Great Apes, or another Species Entirely?
  8. You can't fault the Guy's Confidence, but his statement is Arrogant. Like it's been stated nobody can predict what's going to happen during a Season. Injuries loss of Form and a whole manner of things can happen. Perhaps the Main weapon in his arsenal is, the appointment of Paul Warne as his Head Coach, Warne has an Excellent record in the Lower tiers of the EFL, in fact I was hoping he may have ended up at the Lane. But No Doubt Notts couldn't match what MK Dons are paying him. It will be interesting to see if throwing all this Cash around gets the Plastic Dons Promoted, if it doesn't I predict there will be Hell To Pay.
  9. As Worrying things happen around the World. Here's A Question For Everyone Would The World, Be Better Off Without The Human Race?
  10. People will know I'm a History Buff, it was my Favourite subject at School. Before the written word a Clan or Tribe's History would be told through Stories and Songs. Minstrel's would make up Songs and Stories about the Clans Hero's Life and Deeds. Many Minstrel's would travel across the land entertaining Kings in different Kingdoms with their songs of Heroism and Great Deeds. In fact it is said that when King Richard The Lionheart was captured by an Enemy returning from a Crusade, he heard the voice of his Minstrel from his prison cell at the Top of a Castle's Tower, has the Minstrel rode by Singing, somehow the King got a Message to his Minstrel, who returned to England and told of Richard's Imprisonment. A Ransom was then paid for Richard's Release. These Songsters were known by different Names, a Minstrel a Bard who told stories in Song and word and a Skald a Norse teller of Tales., who would tell Stories of the Asir the God and Goddesses of the Vikings. There is a Legend that Talisin the Father of Merlin ( of King Arthur fame) had a Golden voice, a voice which could calm all violent Arguments and Make Great Warriors weep and replace Hate for Love in their Hearts. It is also said when Merlin came into the World he was still born and Talisin heart broken placed a hand over his dead Son's heart and sang a song of Grief and the Gods heard his song and sent a surge of power through Talisin into the chest of Merlin and the Babe's heart began to beat. Another story regarding Minstrel's (mostly men) it is said some would have their Eye lids stitched together on purpose and though they couldn't see, the sacrifice of their sight resulted in a much sweeter singing voice. Coming forward to the last Century most songs about History are about War or associated with War. It's a Long Way To Tipperary was popular song of the First World War, We'll Meet Again (Vera Lynn) WW II While Peter Paul and Mary's Song Leaving on a Jet Plane is Associated with the Vietnam Conflict. Don Mclean's song American Pie has the lyrics The Day The Music Died. Referring to the Plane crash which Killed Music Legends Buddy Holly, Ricky Valance and the Big Bopper. Finally Heavy Rock Band Led Zeppelin sang the Immigrant Song a Song about the Viking Raids on Britain. And Heavy Metal Rock Band Iron Maiden recorded a song called the Trooper which told the story of The Charge Of The Light Brigade. Any I've Forgotten let me know in your comments.
  11. There is still a lot of Viking Influence around today. Certain words place names and the Viking Gods/ Goddesses are still remembered due to certain Days of the Week. The Tribes of Northern Germany worshipped the same Gods has the Norse, but gave them slightly different names, such as the Germanic All Father was named Wotan or Woden, which has a similar sound to the Norse all Father Odin, which is an English version of the Icelandic name Othin. Much as Thor is our present day name for the Norse version Tor. The Viking Gods/Goddesses who's names relate to modern Days of the Week. Woden (Odin) Woden's Day Wednesday. Thor's Day Thursday. Freya's Day Friday. Another thing about the Vikings they were said to be a Dirty Race Covered in Filth. This of course is untrue the Norse were very clean, they had a certain day of the week when they would Bathe and bowls of warm water were placed on tables, where a Viking REKKR (Warrior) would wash away grease from hands and Beards during a Feast. Each Warrior would also carry a Comb, which he would use to comb his hair and beard after battle, after removing an enemy's Blood from his skin and clothing. All Norse people would also wear lots of Jewelry Rings Bracelets Torcs and Brooches. and Brightly Coloured Clothing, in their Everyday Life. Women were also held in high regard, a Woman could own land, have Slaves and Servants and could Divorce their Husbands, very advanced thinking for the time. Women were also taught how to fight and use many weapons, because when their Men were away Raiding, it was up to the Women of a Viking Settlement to defend their Children and homes from any Raiding or Outlaw Band. Perhaps the most Famous Woman Warrior was Lagertha , first wife of Ragnar Lothbrok. It was said her home was protected by a Huge Dog and a Bear which Ragnar had to overcome, before she consented to Marry Him.
  12. I quoted Joe Palmer’s words from The Magpie Circle podcast, and I made sure to check them before sharing this topic on here. If what he said wasn’t accurate, then I suppose it could be seen differently. I think it would help if the club gave a bit more clarity on this.
  13. @DangerousSausage If the club’s not sustainable at the moment, that’s worrying and it doesn’t seem to match what we’ve heard before from the CEO. I think a bit more clarity would help fans feel reassured. Honest updates from the board could go a long way in building trust between the club and supporters.
  14. There was something Strange on the Bus the other day. I had to Look Twice, because I could have Sworn the Driver Was Shaun Dyche.
  15. As Requested here are More Viking Sayings. Where Recognize Evil. Speak Out Against It And Give No Truces To Your Enemies. Wisdom Is Welcome. Wherever It Comes From. In The Heat Of Battle, You Find your True Self It Is Better To Stand And Fight. If You Run You'll Only Die Tired. Better To Die In Battle With Honour, Than To Die In Shame, Because You Did Not Defend Your People. Better To Fight And Fall. Than To Live Without Hope. Warriors Do Not Show Their Hearts, Until The Axe Reveals It. The Quickest Way To A man's Heart, Is Through His Chest. All Arguments Can Not Be Solved With A Sword. Sometimes You Need An Axe. We Fight. This Is How We Win. This Is How We Die. The Harder The Battle, The Sweeter The Victory. A Viking Does Not Fear The Storm. He Becomes The Storm. My Child, I Can Not Promise To Be Here For All Your Life. But I Promise To Love You For The Rest Of Mine.
  16. What I'm trying to ask is Where's All The Money Gone? Due to the fact that C.E.O. Joe Palmer stated The Club is Maintainable and Comfortable to get to Championship Level , in Terms of Finance. Which means (in my mind) the money is there so If that's a fact Why haven't better players been brought in to help push the Magpies Forward? Why have the Club sold their Top Players, only to be replaced with players who are Not at the departed players Standard. ? I would have thought to enable the Club to move forward, like for like players need to come in, but the Brothers have got the Balance Wrong, between the Infrastructure and New Players arriving. That is where the question of Lack of Ambition comes in and I'm Not the only Notts fan asking that question. Infrastructure wise the Condition of the Stadium and Safety of the Fans is Paramount. Was the Nest a Top Priority ? Wouldn't that money have been better spent on Players to bring success to the Magpies, and Promotion to League 1, which on it's own would have brought in more money to swell the Club's Coffers. The Pitch was laid to stop matches being called off and is up to Premier League Standard then surely the Club need to advertise the fact and get more for their outlay why not approach the F.A. to see if the Club could host International Matches? And No I Don't Mean England Men's Team, but what about matches at Under 19 and Under 21 Level and maybe even the Lionesses? The Location of Meadow Lane is ideal, it's in the Midlands so Fans won't have to fork out the vast amount of Money when they go down to London. I have been accused of Complaining, I would say No, I'm being Realistic everything in the Notts Garden isn't Rosey, but neither is it a Waste Land. If you ask the Notts Fan Base what is the Most Important thing to them most would say Success On The Pitch. Now the Club is on a Financial Even Keel. So what can be taken from the C.E.O's announcement, was he telling the Truth? Or has all the Money Gone, on the Pitch the Nest the New Training Ground and the Structure of the New Notts Model, which has left the Brothers with the only choice of relying on Lower Standard Players, Free Agents and Loanees?
  17. @Fan of Big Tone with Respect I am talking about last season, when Notts clearly had the chance for Automatic Promotion, but due to a poor January Transfer window didn't help the Magpies cause. If the Brothers are so short of money then why doesn't the Board seek further Sponsorship or Investment from a third Party? It also appears to me that money should be spent on gaining success on the Pitch, which would help swell the Club's Coffers, why spend money on a Hybrid pitch at the training ground, when surely that money would be better spent enticing better players to the Lane?
  18. And of course Henry I was succeed by another weak King, Stephen of who's 19 year reign was described as the years when God and his Saints slept. Because for most of his reign was taken up fighting a War against Henry I only surviving Child, the Empress Matilda who Henry had declared to be his successor and many of Henry's Baron's swore an oath to Matilda that she would become Queen of England on her Father death, but things changed when Stephen usurped the Throne, but that's another story. Which is moving away from the Vikings , the subjects of this Topic.
  19. Well Done Ladies, the Lionesses ROAR. Each one is Proud when they Pull On An England Shirt. England's Men's Team TAKE NOTE. Speaking of the English Men's Team. Manager Tuchel gats paid 5 Million pounds for his 18 month stint in Charge. While Sarina Wiegman a mere 4 Hundred Thousand. Do You Think If The F.A, Paid Serina 3Million Pounds, She'd Coach The Men's Team As Well ?
  20. A lot of last season's woes could be laid at Stuart Maynard's door. He just didn't have the same Man management skills as Luke Williams. Williams had the Skill to make poor players average, average players good and Good players Star players as he proved with Chicksen and players who were only really National League Level. Admittedly things were slowly starting to unravel before he went to Swansea, he seemed unable to be flexible and play a different technical game and once the opposition had worked Notts out the results started to go wrong. Still it would have been interesting to see which players had have come in, if Williams had had stayed for that January Transfer window and what may have happened if he had seen the season out. I may have been a little harsh on Maynard? Maybe. But once the Saunders Brother left he appeared to Crumble under the Pressure, Alves his new second in command was a total Disaster , in each match I saw him in he simply stood in the Technical Area with his arms crossed over his chest like a Garden Statue, he never once shouted encouragement to players or seemed to be interested in helping Maynard out during a game. Automatic Promotion was there for the taking last season, but the Magpies home form was a Total Disgrace, they lost games to teams they shouldn't have at the Lane and certain players form fell off a Cliff after January. Failure to get Promotion cost Stuart Maynard his job I would say the National League is his Coaching Level. So who ever hired him must also take part of the Blame. Player wise Jatta's form after January was terrible, even though he finished as the Magpies Top Scorer. Perhaps the Interest from other Club's played a little with his mind, because before January the guy seemed unstoppable. Returning from his injury seemed a tough thing for Jodi and in those last few games his head seemed to be all over the place, he also seemed to have added a few pounds to his frame and he appeared a lot slower than before his injury. Still I'm confident he can bounce back this coming season has he's done in the past with his other bad injuries. Matty Palmer needs to be stripped of the Notts Captaincy and be given the chance to find his form without the added pressures which come with being the Club's Captain. I'm sorry to say this but I think Traore is going to be another Junior he doesn't seem to fit with the Notts Model and he's struggling to adopt to the English game. Tsaroulla and Jarvis are both good players but it struck me neither where given an opportunity to stake a place in the first team, because one week they were in the First XI then out the following match has Stuart Maynard tried stop the Rot at Notts. For this season another Striker is a must but as the Club seem unwilling to Splash the Cash where is such a player going to come from, unless of course the Recruitment Team are going to pull another Macca out of Non League Football. Just don't hold your breath on that one. Martin Paterson has his work cut out, arriving at the Lane to a lack luster Welcome but he seems to have a decent attitude stating all players will need to prove their worth to get into his First XI a Good No Nonsense Character who will Hopefully be able to Inspire Players Get them fighting for every ball, give them the Belief they are the Best and even Bully some players to get the Best Out of them. Hopefully he'll be left alone to Run and Coach The Squad His Way, Without any interference from our New Director Of Football.
  21. @Robbie. If the owners are building a Pitch similar to the one at the Lane at the Notts Training ground, that as to be a complete waste of money. Surely that Cash would have been better spent on Players who would give the Magpies a better chance of automatic Promotion and has you have stated that would bring more revenue to the Club and hopefully better players and there would be No Need for the Brothers to sell the Magpies Top Players. It's things like this that Niggle some Fans and you can see why some are starting to get annoyed with the Brothers. Fans want to see success on the Pitch, could the Club have done without the Nest? Probably because it comes across that the money that the Nest has raised isn't being spent on the Playing Staff, but fritted away on a New Hybrid Pitch at the training ground etc. People/fans will agree or disagree with me, for those who disagree let me ask this question. When you buy your Season/Match Day Ticket what Do you expect? A Win for the Magpies, I know that's what I want, I Don't fork out hard earned Cash to go down the Lane on a Saturday afternoon to watch Notts get completely outclassed and get walloped 3 or 4 Nil. or Beaten by a Team that are not on Notts Level. I expect them to WIN. Of course this isn't going to happen every Home game, but it is something that should be Aimed For, but it's Not going to happen with the Club doing things on the cheap by buying Cheap players, Free Agents and Loanees.
  22. Cnut the Great's story is also very interesting. A wise and good King but was unfortunately followed by his two Son Harthacnut and Harald Harefoot. both weak men and poor rulers. As with many Strong Kings many had a weak successor. William I (strong) William II (weak) Edward I (strong) Edward II (weak,) and of course it also worked the other way around Ethelred (the unready) Edmund Ironside (joint King with Cnut) and ruled only a few months before his death. Stephen (weak) Henry II (strong) Edward II (weak) Edward III (strong) and so it goes on through out History. William the Conqueror also had Viking Blood, being a Descendant of Rollo a Famous Viking Warrior and First Duke of Normandy. There are of course many things about the Vikings which people in the Present day take for Granted and the one that really gets my Goat is the Fact Vikings Did NOT Wear Horned Helmets. Every Hemet found from the Viking Age none have shown any signs of the presence of Horns. Adding Horns to Viking Helmets is the Fault of a Victorian Theater producer who was looking for something to distinguish his lead Actor from the rest of the actors playing Vikings so he added Horns to the Lead Actors Helmet, and unfortunately this Lie has been adopted right up to the present day..
  23. @Robbie All you have to remember is The Chazzle with the Frazzle is the Drazzle with the Plazzle (Eh?)
  24. @Robbie and @DangerousSausage thankyou both for your input, it's nice to know there are other Notts Fans interested in History, like myself. The Death of Harald Hardrada (with an arrow to the throat) was considered by many as the end of the Viking Age. The Life of Harald Hardrada is a fascinating story and it's covered in video's on You Tube. Interestingly there is a claim that the Battle of Hastings wasn't actually fought at Hastings, but somewhere nearby, and the only reason people believed it was fought at Hastings, was that William I built Battle Abbey at Hastings. This if I remember correctly was covered by Tony Robinson in a Time Team Special. King Harold Godwinson heard of the possibility of William's invasion and kept an Fleet of ships anchored near the Isle of Wight to intercept William. However after several months waiting it was thought that William wouldn't come, because crossing the Waters of English Channel at that time of year would be to Dangerous, so Harald's fleet was withdrawn. There is also a You Tube video which claims that the Battle of Stamford Bridge, wasn't fought at Stamford Bridge as that Battle Ground was to far away from York and Harald's long Ships. Certainly worth a watch. The Battle of Stamford Bridge(?) is of course also Famous for the Story of the Lone Viking Berserker who held the Bridge against Harold's Army Killing 40 Soldiers, while Hardrada and his men went to their ships to collect weapons and armour which they had left on board, believing Godwinson's Army were miles away. So both Harold and Harald made Fatal Mistakes.
