Curtis Edwards Reflects on Impressive Notts County Victory and His Role Moving Forward

PON_News

Curtis Edwards, the 30-year-old midfielder for Notts County, delivered an outstanding performance in the club’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Grimsby Town at Meadow Lane.

This win, which marked Notts County's first of the season, was characterised by a commanding display from start to finish, and Edwards was at the heart of the action.

Reflecting on the match, Edwards expressed his satisfaction with the team's overall performance. "A really enjoyable game. I think we dominated from start to finish," Edwards said, adding, "We have to be happy with that, and then it gives us something to build on going forward." His comments capture the mood in the Notts County camp, where there is a strong sense of optimism following this decisive victory.

One notable aspect of Edwards' performance was his more advanced position on the pitch, a departure from his usual deeper role. When asked about this tactical shift, Edwards explained that it was a deliberate decision by the coaching staff. "The manager and Matt have made it clear that they're seeing me playing further forward. Obviously, like you say, it's something I haven’t done in the last few years, but in this system, I think I'll really enjoy it," he said. Edwards' adaptability and willingness to embrace new challenges are evident, and his performance suggests that he could become a key player in this more attacking role.

Edwards, who was making his first start for Notts County, was understandably keen to build on his strong showing. However, he was quick to downplay any thoughts of demanding a regular starting spot from manager Stuart Maynard. "I won't be knocking on his door, but I just have to keep training hard," he remarked. Edwards also reflected on his previous outing in the cup match, where two costly errors led to Notts County's elimination. "It was really nice after the cup match. I thought I put in a decent performance then, but two actions, two mistakes, that kind of cost us the tie. It was nice to get out there and put in a good performance," he said.

The Grimsby game also provided Edwards with an opportunity to move past those earlier mistakes, and he was full of praise for the support he received from his teammates. "Everyone was fantastic. Even when it happened, they were just like, 'Don't worry about it, continue.' So then I was like, OK," Edwards said, acknowledging the importance of his teammates' encouragement in helping him regain his confidence.

Since joining Notts County, Edwards has quickly settled in, crediting the warm welcome he received from his teammates and the club's supporters. "I think since I've come in, the lads have been brilliant. That's always important, to make you feel welcome. It's a really good group, and I'm starting to get settled in the city," Edwards shared. He emphasised his determination to contribute to the team’s success, stating, "Everything started to feel really good, and now it's just to kick on and get more familiar with the city, but more importantly, start winning more football matches."

The Meadow Lane faithful have also made a strong impression on Edwards. With over 10,000 fans attending each of the back-to-back home games, he described the atmosphere as "outstanding." Edwards noted, "You hear about it before you sign, and when you come, they're always behind the lads. I feel like we're giving them good performances, and it's just about starting to pick up three points now."

Looking ahead, Edwards is confident that the team can build on this victory, especially given the quality of the players and the style of play that manager Stuart Manley has instilled. "I think you see the style of play. He wants us to just get on the ball, make teams chase after us, and try and dominate with the ball," Edwards said. He also highlighted the similarities between Notts County’s approach and the style he was accustomed to in Scandinavia, which influenced his decision to join the club.

As Edwards and his teammates prepare for the challenges ahead, the midfielder remains optimistic about what the future holds. "If we keep going, we're going to be a real problem," he predicted. With his blend of experience, versatility, and determination, Curtis Edwards is poised to play a pivotal role in Notts County's push for success this season.

Curtis Edwards really showed his class in the 4-1 victory over Grimsby. His move to a more advanced role allowed him to influence the game more directly, and it was great to see him perform so well after a challenging cup match. His comments about the team's support following his mistakes in the cup match highlight the strong team spirit at Notts. The fans' presence and encouragement at Meadow Lane must give the players a huge boost. Edwards' adaptability and team-oriented mindset are exactly what we need to push forward this season. With his experience and determination, I believe he can make a significant impact as we aim for more victories.

What struck me most about Edwards' reflections was his humility and gratitude. Despite a fantastic performance, he remains focused on hard work and team success. His advanced positioning on the pitch clearly played to his strengths and added a new dimension to our game. The way he’s adapted to his new role and settled into life at Notts County speaks volumes about his character. Also, hearing about the fans' support at Meadow Lane was wonderful. The connection between the players and the supporters is crucial, and it’s great to see Edwards acknowledging that bond. I am optimistic about the future with players like him leading the charge.

Curtis Edwards was fantastic against Grimsby Town. His advanced role allowed him to be more involved and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. What’s great is how he gives credit to the team and the fans. It’s always encouraging to see a player who values the support of his teammates and the positive atmosphere created by the fans. Edwards is certainly a key player to watch this season, and I’m excited to see how he progresses.

Curtis Edwards' shift to a more advanced position truly highlighted his versatility and adaptability. The change, implemented by Stuart Maynard, showcased Edwards' ability to step out of his comfort zone and deliver a commanding performance. His seamless transition is a testament to both his skill level and the support from his teammates. What impressed me most is Edwards' humility despite his stellar performance. Not everyone can recover so well after a tough cup match. His reflections on the team’s dynamics and his ambitions for the future clearly demonstrate his commitment to both personal and team success. With such dedication and talent, Edwards is poised to become indispensable for Notts.

When players click together, it can boost everyone’s performance. While people are talking about Jodi Jones and Dan Crowley, there’s another solid player who deserves attention. Curtis Edwards has the ability to do everything needed to make others thrive, gliding around the pitch effortlessly. I thought he played very well. He has the qualities we’ve been looking for in our midfield. He’s a mix of several players but brings his own style from playing overseas. I can see our midfield being just as strong as our defence.

Curtis Edwards played very well against Grimsby. He was one of the three stand outs for Notts.

I think the recruiters have done very well bringing him to Notts where our style of play looks like it suits him.

He was calm on the ball, all over the pitch  and never stopped running, He's going to be excellent in midfield for Notts & a perfect foil for Crowley.

It's alright having good players but a good team needs good players to click together & I think we saw it in abundance against Grimsby.

I believe our midfield is beginning to look very strong together. When Matty Palmer becomes fully fit it will get even stronger and well oiled too

When every player performs at the same level, some might go unnoticed, but I’m glad that’s not the case for Curtis Edwards.

Great performance by the squad. Curtis Edwards was all over the pitch and impressed everyone. Some might suggest it won’t be noticed, but I am sure even Grimsby fans felt he did well.

It’s so good to see Curtis Edwards bounce back after the errors he made in the cup match. His performance against Grimsby was top-notch, and he was everywhere on the pitch. He showed great resilience and determination, proving that he can learn from his mistakes and come back stronger. His passing was precise, and he made several crucial tackles. This kind of performance is exactly what we need from him, and I am excited to see what he will do next. If he continues to play like this, he will be a key player for us this season.

He looks like a very good player. His time out of the English game has given him the ability to bring a different style of play to Notts. I think this was his EFL debut, and I don’t think he’s played for a league team before. It was a very impressive performance by him.
