Notts County’s Coach Luke Williams on Adam Chicksen: ‘He Brings So Much Intensity to the Team’

PON_News

The forthcoming game on Tuesday is of paramount importance. However, Luke Williams has voiced concerns over the team’s recent performance, particularly the lacklustre display in the last 45 minutes of their previous match against AFC Wimbledon.

The team, which Williams firmly believes has the potential to stand toe-to-toe with any adversary, seemed to lack the necessary urgency. This was a source of frustration for the coach, especially given the team’s struggle against a side that was on a completely different level.

As Notts County continues its journey through the season, the challenge lies in living up to the intensity and commitment that their coach demands. As key players bounce back from injuries and pivotal matches are on the horizon, the team finds itself with a golden chance to shift the momentum. However, as Williams has made abundantly clear, anything short of their absolute best is simply not acceptable to the Magpies faithful.

Luke Williams, the head coach of Notts County, expressed his delight at the return of defender Adam Chicksen to the team. Chicksen had been sidelined since mid-September, and his return is a significant boost for a squad that Williams admits is currently "light."

"We need more guys available," Williams stated, "Adam Chicksen is great. He brings so much intensity to the team." The coach also hinted at the possibility of Chicksen playing in different positions, adding, "I'm really pleased he got some minutes."

Williams also addressed the importance of the upcoming game on Tuesday. "They're all important," he said, emphasising the significance of every match. Yet, he voiced his discontent over the team’s showing in the final 45 minutes of their last match.

"I find it so difficult to accept," Williams confessed. "We played like it wasn't important." He was left puzzled, questioning how his squad, a group he’s certain has the mettle to be top-tier and square off against any competitor, could lack such spark in their performance.

The coach was particularly frustrated with the team's performance against a side that was "completely a different level" to them. "I understand finding it difficult to get to grips with the game," he said, "but we can be very good. So I don't accept that we played like it didn't mean a lot to us. That's not fair."

Williams' comments highlight the challenges facing Notts County as they navigate their season. With key players bouncing back from injuries and crucial matches just around the corner, the team is on the spot to show the fire and dedication their coach is calling for. As Williams made clear, anything less is simply not acceptable.

i was not aware adam chicksen was injured until recently, i think he would be the ideal person to play on the left if we have doubts over kyle cameron. i still would prefer him to be on the wing, i think that would be his best position and its a shame we have not seen much of him this season, i like his delivery from crosses.

The aim now must be to rally behind Williams' words and look to improve. The dilemma we have on our hands isn't insurmountable, it's about harnessing the potential that's already within the squad. Rediscovering the intensity and the willingness to fight in every situation is the key. With Chicksen back in the team, things look a bit more hopeful.

Adam Chicksen's return is a much needed silver lining, especially at such a crucial juncture in the season. Williams is right - the team lacks the necessary intensity, and I believe Chicksen could help remedy that. Here's looking forward to a turnaround in our performances.

Whenever I've seen Chicksen play,(admittedly only on TV)I always get the feeling there is so much more to come from him. There's no doubting his enthusiasm and effort though and he could be part of what Notts have been missing.

It’s great to have Adam Chicksen back. Hopefully, he’ll get more time on the pitch because he can be a valuable player. To bring out his best, he needs to play consistently. We haven’t seen his best this season, mostly due to his intermittent appearances.

Every word that Williams uttered rings true. The lack of urgency in our recent play is concerning. As fans, we demand the vigor, the spark. But it's not all doom and gloom, we have good reason to remain optimistic. The return of Chicksen could serve as a catalyst to change our fortunes for the better. Hoping for better days ahead for Notts County!

It would be beneficial to give Adam Chicksen a chance in the team, perhaps even as a left centre back. This would allow Kyle Cameron to shift to the middle, and if possible, Aden Baldwin could be our third option.

His future doesn’t seem to be on the wings, as we have numerous players in those positions and some will always be preferred over him for some reason. It’s more likely he will be brought on as a substitute in this area, but I can easily envision him being used as a temporary fill-in again in one of our three centre back positions.

It’s great to have Adam Chicksen back, but it’s difficult to know where he’ll fit in and when Luke Williams will give him the time to settle in. Out wide, he poses a good threat and adds another potential scorer to our team. In defence, he can do the job, but in my opinion, he’s less effective.

We all know what Adam is capable of and he has a knack for being in the right place at the right time to score goals.

Now that we are in league 2 everyone has had to step up to the higher level.

It will remain to be seen if Adam will be able to force himself into the starting 11 on a regular  basis in 2024.
