A blast from the past. Can we ask an old mate a favour and ask him to loan Reuben back to us.Β

we dont need either short or ruben now. :D

hope they give him the position full time because it would be nice to see him back in management.

This situation precisely illustrates the challenges that football clubs like Oxford United face in their quest for advancement. The inability to retain their key players and losing their manager, Liam Manning, to Bristol City, significantly hampers their progress. The departure of a manager can destabilise a team, and the appointment of Manning's successor will be a crucial decision. The new manager will have the arduous task of ensuring the team maintains its current form, which is no easy feat. Manning's departure must have been anticipated, given that Oxford United's hold on the 2nd position was always going to be contested.

Regarding Luke Williams, his decision to potentially move to Oxford United seems somewhat perplexing. It appears to be a gamble, as he would be banking on the prospect of playing Championship football with Oxford. However, this is a risky move considering the likelihood of Oxford United struggling in the event of a promotion. The upcoming season could prove challenging for the team, casting doubt on the wisdom of Williams' potential decision. It remains to be seen how these changes will impact both the players and the club's future.

It's interesting how football dynamics can change dramatically within a short span. Oxford United's situation is a clear example of this. From witnessing Liam Manning's departure to Bristol City to now hoping for a favourable outcome under Craig Short, the team has been through a rush of events. Short, despite past criticisms, might bring about a positive change in the team's dynamics. His experienced insight into management could potentially aid in regrouping the team. While it's easy to criticise based on past decisions, this fresh start might just allow him to redeem his image.

Wishing Craig Short all the best as he steps in to guide Oxford United. The role he's stepping into is a big mantle to take on, particularly with recent developments. While scepticism may surround this appointment due to past hiccups, it's important to remember that everyone deserves a chance at redemption. Here's to hoping Short can deliver.

I wouldn’t worry about Luke going tbh.Β
he’s obviously building something here that he knows will, in the long term be if it his career. You only have to look at how it went for Ian Burchnal to look how it can back fire.Β
plus he’s on a long contract so any compensation will be SIGNIFICANT and possibly price him out of many jobs.Β
Β

anybody going into the Oxford job needs to get automatic promotion given where they currently sit. Big risks involved.Β

Does he still think we're mates after the way Trew treated him?

I thought there was a small chance that had Liam been offered the Bristol job then he might have taken it, given his history there and that he seemed to leave them on good terms. Β He will be mentoned every time a vacancy comes up. Β I am less concerned about him being tempted by Oxford.

Allow Craig Short the time to see if he can continue and if good results come, then perhaps they should allow him to find an assistant. He knows their current setup, which nobody else does and a new manager often changes things which takes time to settle.

I don't fear Luke Williams will be interested, I think the appointment they make might be underwhelming unless they stick with Short.

I think Craig Short was unfortunate during his time here. Many blamed him for dismantling the team that got us promoted, but I believe those decisions were made by others before he even took the job.
