Mentoring A level student at QPR

He went to Alfreton, and things went downhill from there. He looked like he had potential but lacked confidence and was thrown into the Notts squad when he wasn’t completely ready. I think he retired not long after Alfreton let him go.

I liked Fabian Speiss. I thought he had potential, and the timing would have worked if Notts had better defenders. The squad was okay, and I think we overachieved in the first season he featured. He did seem to struggle with confidence. He had good ability to react and save shots but lacked communication.

i thought he was quite rounded as a prospect.

he showed good hands, distribution was not bad, he could save shots close up and from outside the box. quite a flexible keeper, that just needed more coaching and time to fully develop. i do think it was his mental side that let him down, he seems very much lacking confidence by time he left. i dont think it was a lack of coaching from the goalkeeping coach, as i think it was kelvin pilkington back then and i thought he was brilliant.

decisions higher up i think took the confidence away, as we did not improve all that much and then moved for a more experienced keeper.

I don't remember him, but he probably was the keeper when I was either not born or really young. Possibly when I was little. Who did Notts to replace him?

Do I remember correctly that a Premier League team was scouting him at one point? Was it Liverpool? I might be mistaken, but we had a lot of promising keepers over the years who fell through the cracks.
