Swansea Sniffing Around Richard Montague... again..?

Featured Replies

  • Scotty changed the title to Swansea Sniffing Around Richard Montague... again..?

I saw the speculation on X last night. At the moment it just looks like a rumour, but sometimes rumour has some truth to it.

It would be a setback if it were true. But I will trust the owners, who always see ahead & I'm sure they would have a replacement in mind if it was needed.

As you say @RobbieΒ it’s a rumour at present sometimes these things get started by one person then it gets picked up by someone else Β and before you know it the rumour appears to be coming from several different sources.

Lets hope there’s no truth in it because he’s doing a great job for us and the brothers certainly won’t want to lose him.

Are Swansea fans just thinking because they got their head coach from us that because they’re now getting a new football director he’s probably coming from Notts as well? No mention of a name in the interview but there’s lots of people it could be and the great news Luke talks about could just simply be that they are now getting a football director, something he thinks Swansea really need.

Richard Montague has only ever had to recruit for us, he’s not had experience signing players to get a team into the Premiership (or other equivalent top division), which is the aim for Swansea. I’m not saying he wouldn’t be capable but I’m just not sure he’d be Swansea’s first choice…

I'm not sure you'd want to join them would you? Appear like a basket case club.

Doesn't scream 'exciting project to get on board with'.

I was thinking a bit more about this yesterday too. Richard Montague has a very senior role at this club, he basically has a say in everything that goes on. He obviously leads our recruitment but being on the board of directors along with the Bros he does a lot more than just that. The relationship he has with the Chris and Alex is clearly very good, he knows the project here how well it's going, it's only going to get better.

He wouldn't get that at Swansea, he'd likely get more money but I'm guessing his roll would purely be in recruitment, coaches and players, but with likely less control as those higher up are likely to want a say too. I don't know what Richard's personal goals are, maybe his dream is to be involved in a Premiership clubs recruitment, so maybe this does potentially get him closer to achieving that...

Swansea needs a massive rebuild though, they might only be step away from the Premier League but in reality the gap is much bigger.

As far as I understand , Richard Montague is a Football Radar employee. Without being certain, his costs are seemingly recharged to #Notts in the financial accounts. The "data" is paramount, which presumably Swansea would not be able to access?

If he’s right that’ll be a big relief.

but he jumped on the rumours of signing macaulay langstaff on loan and that seems to never have been the case.

richard montaque does come from football radar. why would he jump ship to go work with luke williams, when williams has publicly said that he does not go near the swansea dressing room and has been negative of the squad that he has there. it was not that long again he was linked to west brom, so we need to stay in the real world.

Looks like Richard is leaving for Swansea then.

It's a reliable source.

The way I see it, Montague hasΒ  been successful in recruiting for Notts using Football Radars data.

He can't take it with him.

I presume Football Radar will grant those who pay them to access the data, access.

I hope FootballΒ  Radar refuse them access, at any price.Β

I think Football Radar will demand a very high price for the data, that Swansea may have already agreed to pay?

It's official then. He's become their Director of Football..

Will the Bros bring in someone from Football Radar to replace?

In one way, I am slightly angry with Luke Williams for "poaching the family silver"... Could he at least bought Morias for £20m 🀣

Swansea will want our owners next! Just put some black stripes on their home shirts and that’ll be job done.

It is a shame Richard will soon be departing; he’s been one of the reasons we’ve been successful over the years.

It does feel like there’s going be a tipping point at some point, especially if we keep losing key members of staff and players over a short period of time. Yes, they are replaceable but it's not always easy to replace them, surely at some point it’s going to have a negative impact? Or do Chris and Alex just have some sort of super-human ability to seemingly never make a wrong call...

This is really bad news, I agree with Menzinho a lot seems to have happened in the last few weeks and it’s bound to have a negative effect on the club eventually.

Richard has done a wonderful job for Notts since he's been at Notts. He's got most of the things he wanted to do right. Notts achieved promotion back to the football league & they sit in second place in League 2.Β

And we can't forget the building of the Nest that has been a great success for the Club.

In the meantime, I'm sure Joe Palmer will continue the stability at the top that Notts will need until a successor to Richard is chosen.

The Reedtz brothers may even delay appointing a replacement for Richard until the end of the season.

I wish Richard lots of success in his new position. Swansea have appointed another good one from Notts, but I do hope they don't have any further plans on taking any more of our good people.

Just to be clear, Joe Palmer's responsibility, not Richard's.

The question now is how is opposition data to be interpreted, with Richard's absence and will that affect Notts's own performances?

I assume Football Radar replaced RichardΒ Montague when he left, and it's likely that the person who I believe will be hired will be in his place. This would make a lot of sense, as Football Radar most likely would have givenΒ Montague the platform to do what he did here. The structure of the club shows that we are understanding how to present the data in the best way for our recruitment to work.

Whilst I am disappointed,Β Montague won't be the sole reason for our recruitment having been so successful under Reedtz's ownership.

I write this not to discreditΒ Montague, but because Football Radar offers a platform where people can learn how to handle analytics in football. The telling will be how he transitions to his duties at Swansea City. Also, he might not use Football Radar data, nor might the club want to pay for FR data or access to it. It's possible, but I think it's more likely thatΒ Montague will access one of the many football databases and use what he learned to further his career.

This appointment seems quite risky, as Luke Williams's position isn't exactly safe.

Those who think RichardΒ Montague will not be affected in the scenario of Williams eventual or possible departure, throw more unknowns into the situation. It's quite common for managers to not want to work under a director of football. Williams success will be a determining factor in the recruitment process. By Swansea City's own admission, this past transfer window has been considered a failure.

It seems to me, at least it seems like a last-ditch effort to give Williams more of a platform to succeed. Considering he's made public statements about not wanting to go near the Swansea City dressing room and a whole host of negative comments about the players. It paints a picture of what I can only describe as a ship like the Titanic wanting to avoid an iceberg at sea.
