Sad, but how long could he go on for? Big earner, it all depends who we get in his place as to whether this is good business.

(Deliberately didn't say 'to replace him' as that is probably impossible)

This is very sad news at the weekend. Losing our best player is a big body blow. Not just as a player, but the respect he has from the players & fans.

I'm beginning to get concerned. The Club is not going to get promoted on a shoestring budget & you can't get promoted recruiting up and coming players only.

Notts were very lucky with Langstaff & Jatta but they are exceptions to the rule

During the last third of the season the recruitment was poor when it needed to be experienced players that could deal with the additional pressure at the top of the league & playoffs.

I do believe that the owners should possibly turn to additional investors to boost the finances of the club, so that the Club can recruit players that can take the club to the next level.

That would be my ambition for the Club. Do the owners have a similar ambition or not?

So much for ending his career with Notts. I guess money talks and he’s had a better offer, time will tell whether the club have made a mistake or not. At his age he wouldn’t be playing a lot and if we’ve freed up a substantial wage bill with shrewd business in the market we could get a couple of decent, hungry players.

Thank you David it’s been a real pleasure having you play for Notts again, good luck wherever you end up.

Looks like he'll be another addition to the franchise's collection of over-the-hill mercenaries then. For all his talk of ending his career at his boyhood club, it looks like he'd rather see it out playing in front of 30,000 empty seats for a few more quid. Don't let the door hit you on your way out.

While those are big boots to fill, we're not going to spend our way to promotion and it would be wrong to break the bank for a player who'll be pushing 40, however good he is. We became dependent on him because our squad had become too thin in attacking areas and now we'll be able to address that rather than using McGoldrick as a sticking plaster again. Hopefully good replacements will do a good honest job for us without any of the kissing the badge crap.

That is a shame. And not going to lie I will be gutted if later I see a picture of him holding an MK shirt...

But it’s not like we’ve been in this scenario before. We’ve lost Wootton, Roberts, Rodrigues, Langstaff, Crowley and yet when you look at the bigger picture we’ve continued to progress upwards.

So I’m not too worried, of course it’s not going to be easy to replace him but you can potentially shift the team around a bit more, maybe move both Jarvis and Jodi forward and play with a front three. Who knows, there are plenty of options and I’m sure the recruitment team will have planned that this might happen.

Franchise FC splashing the cash again. Next season , there will be other clubs splashing the cash too, Bristol Rovers, Salford, ...Notts middling budget will remain the same. There is no doubting the Bros tried to keep Ruben, Dan and now Didzy but cannot compete when big bucks are offered elsewhere.

Very sad to see Didzy abandon us... It really hurts.

It's all very concerning, no manager,  no Didzy, as stated,  our best player and we need players with experience but we always seem to get rid of them. I hope the new recruitment guy is good, we are going to need him to be.

I also hope the absence of a named manager is not impacting on any potential incoming player negotiations,  as I expect new signings would like to know who they are playing for.

Personally I think Notts should have paid to keep McGoldrick for his ability and his experience around the younger players as as O"Brien and Bostock before him.

As it stands now, the season ahead is already feeling like I challenge.

Totally agree @Pies79 I'll always be grateful to the brothers coming in and saving Notts and getting us back to the EFL

But have they taken Notts as far as they can with the amount of investment they are prepared to put in?

We won’t know the whole truth of the matter, was Didzy’s expectations of a new contract far in advance of what we could realistically afford? I don’t think any player is bigger than the club no matter who they are, the brothers are very conscious that we don’t overspend and leave the club in trouble with astronomic debts.

It’s their money that everyone is wanting them to spend, it’s very easy to say they should have paid Didzy what he wanted when it’s not your money. Under the brothers we have made slow steady progress, spending millions after millions doesn’t guarantee success as Carlisle found, let’s just be happy that the brothers are spending within their means and not racking up debts that put the clubs future in jeopardy.

@Fan of Big Tone you sum up perfectly what The Brothers have done and continue to do. Just copy your post and add it to every other supporter blog about NCFC.

Thanks @Mapperley Pie I don’t actually post anywhere else about Notts this is the only place you can have a sensible conversation without suffering abuse for having a point of view.

There was a lot of things said by David McGoldrick when he first arrived, such as wanting to retire at Notts. He also spoke about not wanting this to be a last pay day, or to become the club's highest earner. These comments wouldn't reflect well if he decides to join up with Paul Warne.

His injury might have him considering retirement, which is a real possibility.

He wasn't the best in his debut season, bright start but fizzled out. Actually, he became very poor and I did say at the time I would have released him. However, he was fantastic this past campaign and highlighted how good he can be with quality around him.

In one hand you have all his comments, in the other you have what he's done in his short time since returning.

Honestly, I didn't think we'd get more than two seasons out of him and I do wonder if injuries are this stage is taking their toll on him. However, he's not bigger than this club and all the negativity, including the Talk Sport article on this subject is the "real embarrassing" part.

Every player has their price, Notts are trying to stay competitive and I don't think we could continue to allow David McGoldrick to be our highest paid player. His role in the squad could be reduced, we could see his form drop or his ability fade as aging players do, or he could have had another impactful season.

I guess the balance is how much did he wants to retire at Notts, how much he really meant his comments about final pay days etc, and what exactly the Notts offer looked like. I doubt they would have offered him a lowball deal, and if that's true I can respect McGoldrick for not accepting. Yet, there's an element of what his next move might be that could bitter his return.

Fans are mentioning Didzy's appearances. Didzy played 36 league games for Notts including 7 as substitute. He scored 17 goals from those 36 games.

When you compare his appearances with other players.

Appearances as substitute included.

Ness 7.

McDonald 19

Macari 33

Grant 34

Gordon 30

Austin 25

Robertson 8

Edwards 16

Jones 22

Tsaroulla 38

Didzy's appearances & fitness record this season compare very favourably with all those major players.

football changes but we have to remember that he might wanting to focus on his private life and injury, last season was a big one for us and i dont think we have to worry. we might not be able to replace him, but no player is impossible to find someone else able to become a fan favourite. i hope hes just retiring.
