Tobias Solberg : Odds-checker 1/2 to become Notts Head Coach

Featured Replies

By the looks of it, this bloke has stepped in as caretaker manager a couple of times but has pretty much no experience as the main man apart from that. It doesn't mean he isn't a promising coach, but would it really be worth the effort of recruiting someone like that from abroad when there would be plenty of similar candidates right here?

So basically, nobody knows anything. I hope we don't drag our feet much longer though.

One name always absent.... Craig Short.... great coaching experience now, would he want to return?

He had a difficult task when he took over, as the squad was broken apart after winning League Two in 2009. However, I would pass. I think someone with experience in the EFL would be a better choice.

It’s the same reason I wouldn’t bring back Shaun Derry. I also hope Kevin Nolan shows at Northampton Town that he isn’t suited to management.

I don't set my hopes on the manager I think is best being appointed or even considered. I trust the system, and I hope the club understands after last season that we need a head coach who can get most of the fans behind him. There will always be some who won’t support the choice, but it’s important that the majority do. That early backing can make the biggest difference by the time the season reaches its end.

The bookies know nothing when it comes to the Notts managerial situation under the Bros.

However, we've now got an open goal. Brian Barry-Murphy is going Cardiff and Tom Cleverley is going to Plymouth. We've got an open goal to Des Buckingham.

People say he won't drop or he's out of our reach. He didn't succeed in the Championship, so the limit is League 1 or he could drop to League 2 if given the infrastructure and philosophy to work with and he's presented with the chance and sold the "project" if you like. Plus, it has to be the right size club, which we are.

You've got to sell him the project

Buckingham does seem to fit @ARLukomski . Odds now down 2-1. So choice is Solberg, Buckingham, Hinshelwood, Shaw, Williams, Evatt, Limbrick, Wilshire.

I doubt now if it will be Luke...available but with the length of time now passed, maybe not being considered?

The longer the wait the more I'd be inclined to think someone who is currently available is less likely, just because it's easier and quicker to get sorted. I get both Plymouth and Cardiff have been looking for new managers but are we really going to attract the managers/coaches they've been talking to? These are clubs that will want to and are capable of going straight back up into the Championship. What we are doing is great and yes it's a project here, but in my eyes we are in very differing scenarios.

Obviously hope I'm wrong and I'll be the first to celebrate the arrival of Des Buckingham!

I only realised after a quick google search that there is another Joao Alves too. And he’s a Portuguese footballer who used to play for Benfica, Boavista and Portugal in the 70s & 80s. He’s managed a lot of teams too and at the ripe old age of 72 you can’t say he’s not experienced, imagine if the odds have been referring to him!

So if all else fails we could have a Joao Alves / Joao Alves dream team. No idea if it'd be any good, but we'd be a pub quiz question!
