So that's the question I am asking PON members. Do you think that Martin can get Notts promoted next season.

Looking at his wiki he hasn't had a lot of EFL experience as a Manager. I was expecting a Head Coach with much more EFL knowledge after Stuart Maynard has been promoted from the National League & his inexperience of EFL football showed at times & he failed to get Notts promoted.

I will get behind our new Head Coach but I can't help feeling that he may find it difficult.

I think with the long wait, speculation and anticipation, this appointment in the first instance seems somewhat underwhelming. However, he might turn out to be a big success. My only concern is that he seems to have previously worked with Roberto Gagliardi at Leyton Orient and is possibly his recommendation. Looking at some of the early signings, I’m not yet convinced about his judgement.

Misspelling

It's too early to say; we could watch pre-season and still have no idea because it will take around 10–15 games to know which direction Martin Paterson can take us. I believe we have a good enough squad if morale, fitness, and injuries don't get in its way. From Paterson's perspective, he must be thinking that he can do well with us because he seems to be getting backed by our board with support from extra coaching personnel.

The main thing is that, so far, we haven't made any signings that we can confidently say will do well.

This doesn't mean they won't, but I fully understand how people feel. We know too well that sometimes hoping for the best doesn't work, yet at the same time remaining gloomy about everything isn't going to help, either.

Just a couple of points...

I’m curious about whether Steve Collis will stick around now that Sam Slocombe is staying on as coach. Is Slocombe still going to be our backup keeper? The announcement doesn’t really clarify things; it mostly just says that Slocombe will keep his coaching role.

A couple of strong signings could give the club and fanbase a boost.

At least Paterson seems to have plenty of support incoming, which should help, surely?

Can he get us promoted? Well who knows? Hopefully the brothers and the DoF have pulled off a master stroke and we’ll end up champions, what? Oh where am I? That was a weird dream. biggrin

I'll answer that in May! πŸ˜‰

We can have lots of coaches having lots and lots of meetings, but it will all be for nought if we don't support the new man with some quality signings. We've lost a lot of quality over the last season and now we've got McGoldrick to replace too. If we don't do that, we can forget about promotion regardless of who's in charge.

Completely underwhelmed.....he hasn't got much time to work with the players....i hope it works out for the new coaching team.....just had a horrible premonition.......Alfreton 3 Notts County 0.....then the proverbial hits the fan.....really hoping iam completely wrong....

It’s early days, but I really hope it turns out well. I keep seeing people guessing that the panel will be picking the team. Surely that should be the head coach’s job? I’m not saying that’s definitely what’s happening. I just think the responsibility should rest fully with Martin Paterson.

That's not true. There's a technical panel that will discuss team matters, but the ultimate responsibility for selection, tactics etc. will lie with Paterson. People are quoting the press release but omitting that last bit on purpose to create a bit of outrage. I'm so tired of it.

However, the technical panel will also include the owners, which may well have put some candidates off.

It seems to me that some fans aren't reading the statement from Notts in their App.

Martin Paterson will be picking the team, deciding on the game plan, tactics & style πŸ‘‡

"Paterson, as Head Coach, will have ultimate decision-making responsibility for each game plan".

I think this new overall Notts model can get Notts challenging for promotion next season.

I will be supporting them every step of the way.

Not heard of Martin Paterson before, but I will give him my full support and hope for the best.

What happens to Joao Alves now? As his role has been taken by Andy Edwards?

We have a good squad, we are a couple of signings from really adding 'strength' to the team, but someone with Martin Paterson's winning mentality could get the most out of the players. It will be crucial now that he's in, that he bond with and form a strong relationship with the players. Having them on board and giving 100% will be helpful, but it is very early. We don't know how Paterson will handle setbacks, we don't know his tactic preferences or squad selection.

The positives are how strong of a squad we have, we have a solid keeper, a decent defence, the midfield is stronger, and we have Alassana Jatta up top.

Sign a replacement for David McGoldrick which is a standout signing for League Two, get another proven goal-scoring striker, and we could mean business.

He's highly rated by the board, so I suspect he will move back to a senior coaching role.

Just as it felt when we signed Alex Bass, Matty Platt and Jacob Bedeau.

Losing any of these ahead of a new campaign would feel like it risks the chance of promotion, especially without signing replacements beforehand. Losing Bass today really hits me hard. You build from the back, and the keeper is such an important part. Right now, I am unsure whether we are strong enough to make the playoffs, but we do have plenty of time to correct this.

@Chris I'm sure that the owners along with their football management at Notts have a plan. I think we just have to trust them. They obviously thought that Bass could be sold for the right place & replaced maybe with a different kind of goalie. A goalie who can command his area and deal with crosses better.

I don’t feel like Notts will go for promotion right now. If we don’t go on a good run, I think the best we can hope for is making the play-offs.

We really need a strong goalkeeper and more players who can score goals, especially someone who can do what David McGoldrick did.

Even though the squad is good, it feels like we’re missing a lot. It doesn’t seem like we’ve got better yet, and I don’t think going up is possible at the moment.

At this moment in time I’m thinking we haven’t got a cat in hells chance of achieving promotion BUT thinks can change very quickly whos to say there aren’t some stellar signing waiting to put pen to paper tomorrow. I really hope so.

To be fair, it does help us see how our thoughts change over time. It’s like a test to see what we think now compared to later. I get why some people think it’s too soon. Things are still starting up, and we don’t know everything yet. Right now, I don’t think we’ve got enough new stuff or got much better than last season. It still feels the same.
