A narrow defeat for Walsall in a friendly tonight against Derby County 2:3 @super_ram

Walsall have had a mixed pre season losing to Hereford too. We will have to see how Walsall performance in their first five or so pre season matches to see if they will be a big threat to teams this season.

I thought Walsall looked a very competent side. They were very athletic and passed the ball about nicely.I'll be interested to see how they fare in League 2 this coming season.

Good defenders do not need to be fast if they read the game and organise themselves well.

A team-mate could cover the pace alongside him. For a League Two club like Walsall, who narrowly missed out on promotion last season, his experience and attributes would make a strong signing.

Would I bring him to Notts? I doubt he would displace Lucas Ness or Rod McDonald, but I have no doubt about his experience and defensive skills.

Just because he is in the latter years of his career does not mean he cannot still perform well in League Two.

Walsall did press quite a lot last season and that left space in behind to exploit (which teams worked out in the second half of the season). If Flint finds himself on the half-way line a lot and has to do a lot of running back it's not going to suit his game at all. He'd be perfect for a team like Colchester, where he'd basically spent all his time in his own box just kicking and heading it away!

He’s a solid defender and should settle in well at Walsall. His style suits the level and he knows how to handle pressure.

I doubt he’ll stay there long, maybe a season or two, but while he’s there, he’ll add experience and a steady head to the back line. They’ll benefit from having someone calm and reliable.

He’s a decent defender, but it looks like his best days are behind him. For one season, though, it’s probably a smart move for Walsall.

They need someone experienced at the back to bring a bit of calm and help steady the defence. He should do that well enough.

I’m glad we didn’t go for him. We need younger, more promising players to grow and learn alongside Matty Platt and Jacob Bedeau. That’s where the future lies.

The rest of L2 should start figuring out how they’ll expose him for pace and on the turn - he’s 36 now

this! ^

hes on the way down and wont have many more years, good players will find ways to make his age show. i am sure he will do okay for walsall but we dont need a player like him or at his age.
