Match Discussion: League Two - Bromley FC (A)

What would your starting line-up be? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

.

We're waiting on Norburn, Robertson and Jatta? Palmer already out...

This could be a big handicap away at the league leaders.

If we're honest, I think a lot of fans feel a loss coming up in this one. Our recent form has been all about getting wins from close games in which we haven't played all that great at times. That could catch up with us at a place like Bromley.

Having said that, they're not to be feared and we could all be delightfully surprised with a win. They'll be used to your typical L2 bruisers - the key to beating them will be precision and quality - the likes of Jones, Tsaroulla (and Tangen I hope) to make chances and for Dennis to be at his most clinical to finish them.

We’ll need at least 1 of Robbo and Norburn, preferably both. It’s all action, high energy stuff with Bromley. They are always dangerous with the ball and can utilise “long ball”, through the middle/target man and width too. Woodman varies the attacking style very well.

Competing with them in the engine room is vital. I believe we have the defensive quality to contain them, we are organised and combative at the back but it depends upon us containing them in midfield and not being overwhelmed.

We can certainly win against a “bogey” side but taking chances might be the critical factor, we need to be sharper in that department if we want to return with the spoils.

Hopefully both.

I wouldn't like to see Palmer back for this one unless we have nobody else - there would be better games for him to ease himself back in.

At least there's a clear pecking order in CM. AM remains a crap shoot. Iorpenda will be very handy for this one. I'd like to see Tangan start with him.

Can Notts get a result at high flying Bromley ? It going to be a very tough game, but Bromley have all the pressure on them. They are top of the league and playing at home.

On their day, Notts can beat anyone. They have proved it this season. Did you know that out of the current top six that accompany Notts in the top Seven at this time, Notts are unbeaten in seven of the eight games against those sides so far, with four games to go.

Notts have won three, drawn Four & lost only once to Salford. That is a massive change to how we stacked up against the top seven leading sides last season under Maynard.

Lots of the talk online is how we are going to stop Bromley. I think that Bromley should be thinking about how they can stop Notts & I'm sure they are.

Of course Notts are going to be bombarded by crosses, corners, long throws & free kick situations. That is where Bromley are going to be dangerous.

Notts have to work their socks off, work hard, be physical, keep their composure towards the end of the match & ensure they are not bullied. If Notts can stay resolute in defence & rely on moments of quality upfront, I think Notts can get a positive result on Saturday.

It seems MP has discovered the art of mind games after he fooled everyone last week with Jodie Jones inclusion after saying it was weeks before he would be fit. Didn't give anything away in his pre match press conference which is a good thing for our chances of winning but a pain for us fans speculating on team selection!

Completely agree that Bromley need to be just as worried with how they stop us as we should be about stopping them. Overall though I really don't expect MP to change much and nor should he. Keep it simple, focus on what we do well and let the rest take care of itself.

Who ends up on that team sheet is going to be very interesting!

COYPs!

The thing that amazes me most about Bromley is their style and how they basically pass the ball between 100 & 150 times per match. In 90 minutes of professional football it just doesn’t seem like it could be possible to win so many matches with so little of the ball. It’s like some kind of magic, against Gillingham when they won 4-1 they made 98 successful passes and their passing accuracy was 43%! Bromley are very strong at home too, they haven’t lost a match all season but someone is going to beat them at some point so in a way we should really relish this type of challenge.

In the little snippet of training that Notts posted yesterday it showed a lot of the first 11 training including Hinchy too, no sign of Jatta, Robbo or Norburn so I'm wondering if this is a sort of hint. I'm probably reading way too much into it! Anyway, all eyes will be on that team-sheet at 2pm, really hoping we've just been purposely quiet to give Bromley no indication of who is and isn't fit.

Notts will need to dig deep to get past Bromley, especially with the match taking place on their ground. No one really expected Bromley to be this strong, which says a lot about the job Andy Woodman has done. They fully deserve their place in the table.

Gillingham made a fast start by being clever in the league, but Bromley have shown even more street sense. Our away form often depends on things falling for us, and it is not always the most convincing. Even so, we can still take something from the match if we close the channels and stay firm in the middle of the pitch.

The starting eleven will be worth watching. If I were Martin Paterson, I would make sure the bench has players who can make an instant impact. That might mean not picking the strongest side on paper, but instead choosing a team that can force the home side to work harder and tire themselves out.

It's great news that Norburn & Robbo are starting after injury scares after the Barrow match. Dissapointing that Palmer and Jatta are still unavailable.

McDonald makes a comeback to the Matchday squad, so it's still a strong Matchday starting eleven & bench with Conor Grant returning to the starting eleven after injury.

Can Notts get their seventh win on the bounce? I think a draw would still be big.

Yeah, a real bonus.

For once i don't mind there being only 4 goals this season sitting behind Dennis. Grant and Iorpenda work hard and we can bring on Tangan for Grant after 60, who might be on shorter minutes following his injury.

That half proves you can't be without your 2 best players for a top-of-table clash.

Jatta and Palmer are our best I'd say and it's the players coming in for them that have struggled the most in the first half - Norburn and Dennis. The game has really passed both of them by so far and they can hardly do anything right.

It's fantastic to see JJ back to his best. As Stall and Hassell said though, it puts to shame the meagre contributions of our other attackers.

If MP wants to be brave he can bring Tangan on for Norburn and move Iorpenda back.

I'll take the draw all day long. Pity about Robbo having to take the sending off for the team. Great to see Jodi on the scoresheet. We keep the unbeaten run going.

The Bromley Manager must have been watching a different match,. There was only one side that deserved more from the match and that was Notts.

I’m happy with that point, I feared the worse when Robbo was sent off but we held on, great performance from Jodie and Grant put in a shift too, all in all another good team performance against a strong side.

I'm happy with a point too, for all the controversy around the referee it was probably a fair result. In the second half we'd got to grips with them and I felt there was only going to be one winner, but alas then came the red card. We did a good job of closing out the game, one mad goalmouth scramble aside.

Bromley reminded me of Lincoln under John Beck, all big boot and long throws. It's effective until you get sussed out. It's easy to be intimidated, and it's a shame it took us so long to impose our own game on them.

Now I take it Robbo is going to be suspended for a match?
