Software Issues

Recommended Posts

Eighteen months ago I upgraded to Girlfriend 1.0 from Drinking Mates 4.2 which I'd used for years without any trouble.

However, there are apparently conflicts between these two products and the only solution was to try and run Girlfriend 1.0 with the sound turned off.

To make matters worse, Girlfriend 1.0 is also incompatible with several other applications, such as Lads Night Out 3.1, Football 2 and Playboy 6.1.

Successive versions of Girlfriend proved no better. A shareware beta-programme, Party Girl 2.1 that I tried, had many bugs and left a virus in my system, forcing me to shut down completely for several weeks.

Eventually I tried to run Girlfriend 1.2 and Girlfriend 1.0 at the same time, only to discover that when these two systems detected each other they caused severe damage to my hardware.

Sensing a way out, I then upgraded to Fiance 1.0 only to discover that this product soon had to be upgraded (at great cost) to Wife 1.0, which I reluctantly agreed to, because, whilst Wife 1.0 tends to use up all my available resources, it does come bundled with FreeSexPlus and CleanHouse2000.

Shortly after this upgrade however I then discovered that Wife 1.0 can be very unstable and costly to run. For example, any mistakes I made were automatically stored in Wife 1.0's memory and could not be deleted. They then resurfaced months later when I had forgotten about them.

Wife 1.0 also has an automatic Diary Explorer and E-mail Porn Filter, and can, without warning, launch Photostrop and Whingezip! These latter products have no Help files and I have to try and guess what the problem is myself.

Additional costly problems are that Wife 1.0 needs updating regularly, requiring Shoe Shop Browser for new attachments and also Hairstyle Express, which needs to be reinstalled every other week. Wife 1.0 also spawns unwelcome child processes that drain my resources.

It also conflicts with some of the new games I wanted to try, stating that they are an illegal operation. When Wife 1.0 attaches itself to my Audi TT program it often crashes or runs the system dry.

Wife 1.0 also has a rather annoying pop-up called Mother-in-Law, which can't be turned off. Recently I've attempted to try Mistress 2000, but there could be problems. A friend has alerted me to the fact that if Wife 1.0 detects the presence of Mistress 2000 it could delete all my MS Money files before un-installing itself.

Any ideas?

When you really have problems is when wife 1.0 has attachments. You don't realise at first but it is the in program add-ons that cripple you

It lost me the 6.1 app, up to that point I did have smiles on my face and laughter could have been perhaps heard.

Yeah yeah, it's because of your own software issues that you have to deny that app!!!

Also @PTID1862 can you either confirm or deny that the modern day tramper has several 6.1 apps???

:rollonfloorlaughing:

In my previous tramping experience, I needed a seperate 1.2 app depending on each national service provider

Tbh I don't really like playing computer games, never really have, i get bored when playing them too easily, I can remember though that my first computer was a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 128k, you're most probably now searching google thinking wtf!!

The change in computer advancement through my teens was unbelievable, it seemed like every two minutes a new upgraded version was being brought out, whereas now the progress has slowed immeasurably due to the law of diminishing returns.

Amstrad was owned by a certain..."yes Lord Sugar."

They had a tape deck for the games where as the Atari ( even better the st) used disks.

Wow how times have changed!

I started off with the Amstrad, but saw SimCity on the Amiga and moved up in the world. Didn't like Apple even then!

I had a mate at school whose dad was a real plonker. Didn't work. Sat on his arse all day, but got interested in computers. He had all of them lined up on a massive desk in their front room. He had a working pub slot machine in the front room so got me into gambling as well! ( He also had a few dodgy vhs vids he left carelessly around which were of great interest to a growing boy!!) He started 'computer club' in the centre of town where all the geeks would attend. He got me, via my mate, into comps. He was in on the first attempt at the internet bulletin boards.

Surprise surprise he left the wife for a woman he had never seen, only talked to over the boards (for those not old enough remember we are talking impossibly slow here.) The woman was from USA so he moved and of course landed on his feet right in the middle of the boom and made serious money. Never sent any back for the kids though. When he went boom in the dot com bust he came back and attempted to reconcile in the same council house he'd left all those years ago. She chucked him out and he was never heard of again.

Oh I loved it @liampie, just ask @super_ram!

I love retro gaming I do, I felt the same when my dad shown me a record for the first time. I didn't expect it to play music and it's surprising that the quality is actually much preferred over compact discs (cds) but provided the record is in mint quality or near as I do believe it is better.

Also, I once spilt a drink of pop over our old spectrum and my @GrannyPie s father us everywhere to try and get it fixed.

He was like that. I enjoyed playing with @william1984 and Super on it also.
