I was talking to @Dripsey3 in another thread about porridge but I can't find it now. Anyhow, probably worth a separate thread, I tried his suggestion of banana in my porridge and it was very good, thanks Dripsey, Mrs. H. gave it 10 out of 10.

This got me thinking does anyone else have porridge on the forum, we usually have golden syrup and we make it with two thirds milk and one third water, it's comes out lovely and creamy, on our recent cruise I had porridge and it had been made with water it was horrible I didn't like it at all but I know that is probably the proper way to have it.

When I was a youngster mam and dad took us for a holiday to Scotland and at breakfast we were served porridge the landlady of the B&B put a pot of salt on the table. My dad asked for sugar and she looked at him as if he had just crawled out from under a stone. Muttering "sacrilege" under her breath she went to fetch the sugar bowl and almost threw it at him. It seems the Scottish people have salt on their porridge as a tradition and woe betide you if you ask for anything else.

So do you have porridge? If so how do you like it? Any Scottish people on here care to comment?

We used to go to the miners holiday camp at Rhyl a lot when I was young and they had porridge available at breakfast..It was absolutely delicious.I put sugar on and had a second helping when I could.I don't fancy having salt on but think fruit would be quite nice.I haven't had porridge for years.

If it's thick and lumpy, I don't like it. I'm not a big fan of mature oats or actual porridge.

If I haven't got time to make porridge I often have just the oats with some raisins in and milk. Lovely and it's very filling because it swells in your stomach.

The fruit combo makes oatmeal lovely! I often make snacks out of them and baked goodies, absolutely wonderful.
