Opinions on Greece

Taking UK politics out of it for the moment, what are your opinions on the Greek referendum, Would you have voted Yes to take the package or No (as it seems most of Greece have) and try to either renegotiate or back out totally and have own currency again?

I don't think any nation deserves to be bullied around my Merkel and her German possy. Good luck to them if they chose to go their own way, I think the government in charge there are promising.

The amount of money promised and given to Greece, in my honest opinion they should accept and try to improve their nations problems. I don't think they should be bullied but they do make me wonder why they are open to help but not prepared to work for it. The nation would be doomed without others helping them and I just feel, the politicians should stop playing games and listen to the people.

It's sad what's happening!

I watch a TV show the other night which spoke to several elderly greeks who said they would be happy to lose their life savings, provided it meant that their young family members had a better chance of coming out of this.

Congratulations to Greece for making the right choice. A yes vote would have meant a continuation of the status quo - more austerity wrecking the country's economy and causing high unemployment while the EU leaders continue their pretence that the debts will ever be paid back. It would have been an easy way out of the present crisis, but in 2 or 3 years we would be here again. Sometimes the right choice is also the most difficult one.

I'm pessimistic as to whether a deal can be struck. The Greek government now cannot cave in as that would be political suicide, and the German government in particular wants rid of Syria and is willing to pay almost any price in order to do so. They want to humiliate Shane them a victory. I think it was a bit naive of Alex Tsipras to pledge an end to austerity And continued membership of the eurozone, it may well be that both are not possible.

On a side note, none of you can imagine quite how awful the German media's coverage of this has been. Fox News can learn a few things from them.

They should be bailed out with the mindset that they work to repay the help, its important that they get back on a level footing and voting Yes wouldn't have done that at all.

It's not the Euro, it's the German Euro. It's not the EU, it's the German EU. What's good for Germany is not necessarily good for the rest of us, but the German plow on regardless, maybe this is the reality check they needed, but I doubt it, the Germans never learn.....

The Germans operate almost mechanically. Others that don't are treated with confusion and intolerance.

They have got themselves in this state. Lack of taxation, government workers retiring at 40 on full pensions, companies making ridiculous amounts of profits on Government contracts and other things that would make your eyes water. They've lived the high life too long with the countries governance and now shits just got real.

They don't want to pay for the past so expect Europe to bail them out with no recompense.

I think I'll take a few loans out and when the banks ask for the money back I shall tell them I've had a referendum with my family and we've decided not to pay it back! How long do you think I'd last? Same principle.

My point of view would be to agree with that. The bullying by Germany has been disgusting (no doubt all the others are at it too, but Merkel seems happy to lead the line.) No country should be lead down such a humiliating path as that. The no vote may lead Greece down the path of leaving the Euro, but in the long term, that has got to be better for their people than cuts upon more cuts. 

Saying that this time tomorrow most of the UK will hopefully want to say no after the 'emergency' budget is revealed.

Strange how they've been in power for 5 years making cuts, but they still need to call an 'Emergency.'

The so called emergency budget is merely down to the fact we now have a single party government, that are going to put forward the single party budget... the budget in March was during a coalition government and therefore mixed policy had influence over the budget.... hows that...

 

Not saying it is going to be any better or any worse for any of you, but just that it is now a simple matter of the budget only needs to be representing one set of policies!

greece are stubborn, i am sure if they really wanted to they could come up with some sort of fair deal. i dont like their leader, he mocks his position by saying he will put his nation first and then bad mouthing the people trying to help.

fair enough say no but sort something out.

Greece will have to face the facts sooner or later, I wish them well and the yes vote was best but they need to fix something to move on.
