Best and worst position in the Football League

Featured Replies

Our best ever position was 3rd. We achieved that twice. Once in the 19th century and again in 1900 (I think).

What was our worst? 89th twice in the 2000s. Our recent bad run makes me wonder if we'll break the worst record this season. Surely not? Surely.....

Come on let's not get too worried! After all we have made 19 new signings and we can't expect them all to gel instantly. Our attack has because Moniz is a good coach in the attacking respect, but Yates is a poor defensive coach and so the players will take longer to gel and we have paid the price on several occasions. I'm sure the defence will gel after 10-15 games and all should be fine from there on as long as we can learn to finish out chances too. We'll be way above that come next May.

If you don't concede you cant lose... and worryingly at the moment...

Only Carlisle have shipped more goals than us ....12

We are joint second with Newport and Dog and Duck ...10

Get the defence sorted, and we will start to climb! There are worse sides in the league, but current stats show not many worse defensive units

It seems the knives are out for Dean Yates, I'm not sure where the blame lies for our defensive lapses but perhaps the fault lies with the the players that have been signed. You can't polish a turd is an expression that springs to mind. If that is the case then the fault lies with Branston and the transfer committee.

Nobody knows how good Yates is or isn't, unless he's coached you or you have seen him do it. It takes time to get players doing things they should be by themselves, so I don't blame him.

Its all about time and waiting now.

Oh oh oh ohhhhh, everywhere where we go, watching super County putting on a show!

we will probably be mid table this year, maybe pushing for playoffs but we need to get results now. i am not worried about relegation, only thing which concerns me is the matters happening outside of the dressing room.

I assume that's end of season positions. Have Notts ever been top of Division 1 or bottom of Division 4 during a season?

We were definitely bottom of the league for a couple of weeks under Gary Mills @ivansneck, must have been 2003. I don't think we ever actually hit rock bottom in any of the seasons we were sriously threatened with relegation, although Charlie and Gudjon led us to our joint lowest final positions.

I'm too young to remember it, but I think we were briefly top of the tree under Larry Lloyd in the season we got relegated from division 1 in the 80s.

We finished third in 1910 and I think we were even challenging for the title that season.

I'm not worried yet, although we do need to stop conceding sloppy goals. As I have mentioned previously, if we give everything and play well - yet end up being beaten by a side who plays better and scores good goals, I think it would take the sting from some of the defeats. Whereas the teams we have played did well, Mansfield for example played out of their skin and thoroughly deserved the win - It could have been different had we have started better, if the defence didn't buckle and make mistakes.

Once we get a little run, I am sure points will start coming.
