Is it time to rest Roy?

Many good saves like last year, but more errors than before. Should Loach be given a run?

My vote is to get to 50 points asap, then give him (plus a few other "reserves") a decent run in the 1st team...........we really need to start building for next season, as I honestly cannot see us getting anywhere near the play-offs.

ps.......I also predicted we would lose to Luton and Hartlepool, so basically I know nothing.....ignore me!!

We really need to see what Loach can do, as he has decent pedigree. As far as a comparison, I think that Loach is a better shot stopper, but Roy is more vocal and a better organiser and that can be worth more (as long as the back four listens!).

Roy has played a lot worse and kept his place, so I can't see it changing soon.

I too believe that Loach is way too good a keeper to be sat warming the bench and getting the odd game in the rezzies.

Carroll's unpredictability is probably what I've found most off-putting this season, and it's now probably an error (generally leading to a goal) every third game or so. That to me is way too high a ratio to 1) keep your place in the side week in, week out, and 2) also maintain the role of captain.

If any outfield player wearing the armband made as many howlers as Roy's been guilty of this season then I'm in no doubt whatsoever they'd be stripped of the title - and probably dropped for good measure as well.

Yes, he was great last season (dissent and yellow cards aside), but he's quickly becoming yesterday's man and we ought to be looking at options to carry into next season.

This has to be Roy's last season? I loved him last year and he was our best player by far, but this year he has nose dived, he was amazing away to Huddersfield but he has just gradually got worse, hopefully with a settled back four he will improve but he must be about 38/39? Maybe take a backseat next year before retiring

I've suggested we should drop Roy Carroll for awhile, yet I don't believe at this stage it would be wise - for all his fault (yes Roy you do have them - as do we all) we are trying to form a consistent back four, which I feel starts with the keeper and then two strong CB's.

I highly rate Scott Loach and I think he will do just fine once he does become our regular first choice keeper.

Yet, I just feel that if we are to 'settle' we need to get the squad as comfortable as each other. If the club don't believe promotion is possibly, then perhaps they can afford to play around a little but I would stick with Roy Carroll for now.

I'm not going back on my thoughts of the play-offs at all.

I just feel for the defence to 'fix' itself, we need the squad as settled as possible.

Roy won't be at Notts next season. He'll go to the Euros as a Notts player. Have we ever had a player at the Euros? One for the die hard fans to answer. I don't think so but not certain. Loach will be number 1 next season.

Loach's consistent run of clean sheets for the reserves makes him worthy of replacing Roy now. During the 4 or so reserve games I have seen, there were occasions when one thought the other team must score, only for Scott to pull off a great save.

I'm not too sure on this one, didnt we lose 3 on the bounce last time Loach was given a go.

He should be given a chance for the run-in. Carroll is out of contract in the summer, so if he's going, Loach should be given a chance to stake a claim for the number 1 shirt next season. It'd certainly be better than him leaving for first team football and us having to gamble in the transfer market in the summer.

I'd like to see him given a chance if by Mid march we're not heading to the playoffs

I've seen Roy make some great saves without doubt, keeping Notts in games, without doubt. I've also seen him charge off his line and take down an opponent, charge off his line and be easily rounded and charge off his line and be lobbed. Theses things happen. But for me the biggest disappointment of the season so far for Roy was after York scored their second goal he deliberately stuck his leg out, very sneakily to trip up the York striker. Not big and not clever the sort of thing you might expect in school boy matches. For me he let himself down and the club down and could very very easily have been sent off for unsportsmanlike like conduct. Nothing wrong with getting stuck in or winding up the opposition but that was pathetic. (rant over).

If Loach is going to be No1 next season put him in now as were going nowhere and have nothing to lose.

I'm also not a big fan of goalies being captains no matter how good the goalie is.

A big advantage is having a reserve team this season. If you are proving yourself in the reserves, it must be disheartening not to get the first team chance. I think Scott is deserving of his chance now, not later...but then again I am not the manager....

There is no chance of Roy being dropped or rested this season, especially with the Euros on the horizon.
